The name Namakkal derives from Namagiri, which is the name of the single rock formation at the center of the town. Namagiri Lakshmi Narasimhaswamy Temple a beautiful swayam udbhava (naturally formed) murti of Lord Vishnu in the form of Sri Narasimha Swamy.The ancient cave temple are carved out of an imposing hill.There is a separate shrine for Goddess Namagiri Lakshmi. It was in front of Namagiri Narashimhaswamy. There are three different depictions of the Narasimha avatara of Vishnu in this cave temple: We can see in Cave walls, very beautiful sculptures, the Mahavishnu's Avatharams! Sri VAIKUNTHA NARAYANA with Sun, Moon, Siva Brahma, Markandeya and Bhudevi. Abhaya Narsimha is also here. In the next wall, we can see Sri Ugra Narasimha tearing the Hiranya's chest by nails. On the other side wall Sri Vamanamurthy is getting danam by Mahabalya Chakravarty. In the same wall Sri Mahavishnu as TRIVIKRAMA is measuring the earth and sky. In the next wall, Sri VARAHA MURTHY is bearing the four vedas all power heads on the nose, and holding Sri Bhudevi by two hands. The glories of Goddess Sri Namagiri Thayar is spread in all over India.SRI NAMAGIRI AMMAN'S Lotus eyes are merciful. She is seeing by lotus eyes with mercy. She is sitting on the lotus. She is also holding the lotus.

Namakkal ~ Narashimghar with Namagiri Thayar * Revised
This Hill is seen as single rock-form and has it's legend that it had been shifted to here by lord Anjaneyar from the river-side of Kantagi at Nepal on Thretha- yuga.This rock has it's salient feature that it belongs to a divine class of Salagramam,on which,has it's impression of lord Narashimgha murthy.
The Legend behind this Rock Fort:-
On Krutha yuga, the 'Thwarabalaghs', that is the gatekeepers of Vaigundam (Abode of lord Vishnu), had been punished by lord Vishnu that they should take birth as demons in their coming three births and could reach Him again only after they would have been perished by Him. The Thwarabalags were 'Jeyan & Vijayan'. This had been due to the carelessness in their duty, when they had admitted the sage 'Thurvasar, who had kicked on the chest of Vishnu, while He was in 'Ananthasayanam', since he thought that Vishnu had ignored his entry.As
the thwarabalaghs didn't do their proper duty, they had to suffer, by taken birth as demons.
Those two cursed thwarabalaghs named 'Jeyan and Vijayan', took birth as the fierce demons named as 'Hiranyakshan' & Hiranyakashipu.As they were demons by birth,they only did cruel things to the three world. Hiranyakshan had
been perished by lord Vishnu, by one of His incarnations, called as 'Varagha' (wild boar), when the demon had taken the world into the deep sea and had hidden it.Vishnu, who took Varagha avatar had redeemed the earth from danger.On the other hand,Hiranyakashipu,who had been empowered by the immense boons, also thought that he was the god and forced everyone to worship him. Vishnu made His 'Chakrayutha' to be born as his son Braghalath, who had been fixed as the fate of the demon.
Hiranyakashipu had been gifted with immense boons by his hard-core penance towards lord Brahmah Deva. He had been gifted with that he could hardly die by human,devas,demons,animals,birds and couldn't die in 'day','night',in and out and so many.So, he never thought about his death,since nobody could able to kill him.But the fate, which is always great, made Prahalatha (Vishnu's Chakra) to take birth as his child.Even from the fetus itself,Prahalatha had been the fierce devotee of lord Vishnu by the preaching of the divine saint Naratha to his
mother, that was Hiranyakashipu's wife.This devotion towards Vishnu, grew larger, even he met with many death sentences like poison,fire,rolled down from the hill etc,by his father.
At one stage,the demon Hiranyakashipu couldn't tolerate the pious love of his son towards lord Vishnu.He asked his son that whether, as lord Vishnu had been omnipresent, could He (Vishnu) be resided in a pillar,at which Hiranyakashipu pointed out? Yes, Indeed, said Prahalatha. At once,the demon broke down the
pillar.What a surprise! From that pillar Vishnu jumped out, as in the form of 'Narashimghan', who was the mixed proportionof 'Man & Lion', dragged Hiranyakashipu to the doorstep and placed him on His thighs and pierced his stomach by the sharp nails into pieces and made him death. It was neither day nor night, but only dusk.Narashimghan had been neither man nor animal and only killed the demon by nails.
After the death of the demon Hiranyakashipu,Narashimghar's wrath couldn't cool down that nobody could dare to go near him,except the small boy Prahalatha.Praghalatha touched lord Vishnu who had been in the form of Narashimghar and made Him cool.After that He disappeared in the rock, which had been worshiped as long as Praghalatha was alive.Here,we could remember one thing that the rock in which lord Narashimghar had disappeared, had been the same that Anjaneyar had lifted from the river Kantaghi at Nepal. In Thretha yuga,there had been a fierce battle, in between Rama and Inderjith, the son of the demon Ravana.Inderjit, shooted one 'Brahmasthira' towards Lakshmana and he fell down as dead.

நாமக்கல் நரசிம்ம சுவாமி கோயில் தேரோட்ட விழா நடைபெற்றது.. அருள்மிகு ரங்கநாதர் மற்றும் ஆஞ்சநேயர் திருத்தேர் தேரோட்டத்தை மாவட்டஆட்சி தலைவர் துவக்கிவைத்தார்.
இக்கோயில் தேர்த் திருவிழா கடந்த 2-ஆம் தேதி கொடியேற்றத்துடன் தொடங்கியது. 7-ஆம் நாள் நிகழ்ச்சியாக சனிக்கிழமை நரசிம்மர் கோயில் வளாகத்தில் அருள்மிகு நரசிம்மர்-நாமகிரித் தாயார் திருக்கல்யாண உற்சவம் நடைபெற்றது. ஏராளமான பக்தர்கள் இதில் கலந்து கொண்டு சுவாமிக்கு மொய் சமர்ப்பித்தனர். இதைத் தொடர்ந்து 9-ஆம் நிகழ்ச்சியாக தேரோட்டம் நடைபெறுகிறது. கோட்டையில் உள்ள அருள்மிகு நரசிம்ம சுவாமி-நாமகிரித் தாயார் புதிய தேர் அமைக்கும் பணி காலதாமாகி வருவதால் நிகழாண்டு தேரோட்டம் நடைபெறவில்லை. அதனால் காலை 10 மணிக்கு மேல் 10.30 மணிக்குள் பேட்டை அருள்மிகு ரங்கநாதர் மற்றும் ஆஞ்சநேயர் திருத்தேர் தேரோட்டம் நடைபெறுகிறது. இதனை நாமக்கல் மாவட்ட ஆட்சியர் மு.ஆசியா மரியம் தேரை வடம் பித்து துவக்கிவைத்தார். .இதனை பொதுமக்கள் திறளாக கலந்து கொண்டு தேரை வடம்பித்து இழுத்தானார்கள்.

Watch: When a snake crept up to Lord Narasimha Swamy’s idol at this Tamil Nadu temple
Devotees are in for a pleasant surprise when a cobra, out of nowhere, appears on Lord Narasimha Swamy’s idol. The incident happened while kumbhabhishekam is being performed in Thalambur Narasimha temple in Thalambur village. While some devotees are shocked and prayed the God, others capture the snake in their mobile phones. Located in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu, Thalambur Narasimha Temple is dedicated to the Lord Narasimha Swamy. Snakes are considered sacred in Hindu culture as they are associated with Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. Many devotees consider this as an auspicious sign.

இதனிடையே பக்தர்களின் கோரிக்கையை ஏற்று இந்து சமய அறநிலையத் துறையின் சார்பில் பழுது நீக்கம் செய்யும் பணியும் சிற்பங்கள் பொருத்துதல் உள்ளிட்ட பணிகள் கடந்த 8 மாதங்களாக நடைபெற்று வந்தது. முர வேலை பணிகள் இரவு பகலாக இப்பணி நடைபெற்று முழுவதுமாக இப்பணி முடிவுற்றுள்ளது. தோடர்ந்து கடந்த 15 நாட்களாக தேருக்கு வர்ணம் பூசும் பணி நடைபெற்று வருகிறது. தேரில் உள்ள சிற்பங்களுக்கு ஒரு வர்ணமும் தேரின் சக்கரங்களுக்கு ஒரு வர்ணமும் அதே போல் தேரின் சட்டங்களுக்கு ஒரு வர்ணமும் என இப்பணியில் ஊழியர்கள் ஈடுபட்டு இப்பணி இன்றுடன் முடிவடைய உள்ளது. அதாவது தேர் புதுப்பித்தல் பணி இன்றுடன் முடிவவடைகிறது. வருகின்ற தை மாதம் வெள்ளோட்டம் விடப்பட்டு தொடர்ந்து பங்குனி மாதம் தேர்திருவிழா நடைபெறும் என்று பக்தர்கள் எதிர்பார்ப்பாக உள்ளது.
