Get ready for some EPIC KOREAN STREET FOOD at NAMDAEMUN MARKET the BIGGEST and OLDEST traditional market in Korea. Namdaemun Market is a well known street food destination in Seoul. We take you on a street food tour of this traditional market...
We eat:
Hotteok
A Korean pancake which comes in both a savoury and sweet version. We sample the savoury hotteok from the famous stall located right by Gate 2 of Namdaemun Market. We reckon hotteok is more of a donut than a pancake. In this case the dough is stuffed with glass noodles and vegetables and then shallow fried in a pan of oil. It is brushed with a fruity glaze before serving.
Eomuk or odeng
Fish cakes which are skewered and simmer in a hot broth are an ideal street food snack in the winter. If you see an odeng stall just pay for the number of skewers you want and help yourself to a cup of hot broth.
Mandu
Mandu are dumplings. At this stall we sample both pork and kimchi steamed mandu.
Tteokbokki
Tteokbokki is a Korean street food favourite. Rice cakes are cooked in a gochujang (red chilli pepper paste) sauce and often served with eomuk or fish cake.
Kalguksu and Boribap in Kalgaksu Alley
Kalguksu are handmade knife cut noodles. Kalguksu Alley is lined with vendors selling kalguksu noodle soup and boribap- a barley and rice dish with mixed vegetables. The noodles are served in an anchovy broth with dried seaweed and tofu. When you eat at these stalls you will receive a small bowl of naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles) and a vegetable soup for free.
How to get there:
Namdaemun Market
21 Namdaemunsijang 4-gil, Namchang-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul
Seoul Subway Line 4, Hoehyeon Station Exit 5

David's channel:
As the oldest continuously running market in South Korea, Namdaemun is one of the most famous attractions in Seoul for shopping, people watching and grabbing street food. Although there isn't as many street food options as dedicated street food markets if you wander around enough you'll find plenty to eat.
All in all we tried the following Korean street food on this tour of Namdaemun:
1) Korean hotdog with french fries (핫도그)
2) Korean rice stick (떡)
3) Mayak Korean Kimbap rice rolls (마약김밥)
4) Korean stuffed rice cakes Songpyeon (송편)
5) Mandu Korean dumplings with kimchi and meat (만두)

Seoul Street Food at Namdaemun Market | Korean Street Food in Seoul, Korea:
Hey guys! We are Samuel and Audrey, a vlogging travel couple from Canada. In this travel channel we share our travel and food vlogs while touring the world.
Our most recent trip was to South Korea where I embarked upon a two-week adventure without Audrey. Invited as part of a YouTube vlogging trip, organized by KTO, I spent the first week traveling with other YouTubers in Seoul, Busan and Gyeongju. My second week included independent exploration of Korea with my good friend and fellow YouTuber David of DavidsBeenHere.
Having lived and traveled in South Korea, the chance to return to one of my favorite countries was one of the biggest surprises of 2019. On this particular trip, I had an opportunity to do many things I had not previously covered including a visit to the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone between South Korea and North Korea), a Buddhist Temple Stay and a Korean cooking class. It was almost as if the program designed by KTO knew exactly what I had missed out on before.
Obviously, a huge highlight from the two weeks I spent revisiting Korea was the food. I feasted on all of my favorite Korean dishes including Korean barbecue, dolsot bibimbap, haemul pajeon, tteokbokki, bulgogi, kimbap and many others. I can honestly say that Korean food is world-class and is one of my top 5 favorite cuisines in the world. Aside from trying familiar dishes, I had the opportunity to sample raw Korean seafood for the first time.
While visiting Seoul, highlights included going to Gyeongbokgung Palace, Namsan Seoul Tower, Jogyesa Temple and Hongdae. As one of the biggest cities in the world, I barely scratched the surface of things to do in Seoul.
Spending extended time in Busan was my favorite part about the trip with top highlights including a Korean temple stay, fresh fish markets and a Korean baseball game. It was from Busan that we ended up taking a day-trip to Daegu where we enjoyed a traditional Korean market and tried Galbi-Jjim for the first time.

KOREAN STREET FOOD ???? LARGEST Traditional Market Food Tour in Seoul, South Korea | Namdaemun Market
Eat at Namdaemun Market in Seoul, South Korea for DELICIOUS traditional Korean street food! Get unlimited, HD stock footage for your YouTube & video projects here:
Today we visit the LARGEST traditional market in Seoul, Korea to try delicious Korean street food from mandus to hairtail soup. I recommend visiting the noodle alley to get a set for 5000 won! Then stopping by next door to Gamegol Son Wangmandu for dumplings! There is seating upstairs in case you need a break from the heat. This Korean market is so big I got really lost walking around.
I also recommend the savory hotteok by the stall at exit 2. If you can’t find something here are people in red vests directing travelers! Namdaemun Market is a great place to shop for clothes and trinkets at a cheap price. There were many street stalls hidden between alleyways but they will offer the same type of set noodles.
There is also a spicy hairtail soup alleyway where you can see Korean aunties boiling these pots of steamy soup outside! Again this will be a set meal so get ready for a lot of Korean street food if you eat here. The Korean food here is SPICY so becareful of the heat heheh.
Visit this market or Gwangjang Market in Seoul? If you have time visit both! Gwangjang is definitely great for sampling Korean street food. You can order smaller portions and the food is all concentrated in one area. Namdaemun is MASSIVE and is a great shopping market with a few more specialized street eats. You'll see that the mandus, or dumplings, are different from both markets. You can watch our Gwangjang Market food tour here: for more traditional Korean eats.

The ULTIMATE Korean STREET FOOD Tour at Namdaemun Market | Seoul, South Korea
My tenth day in South Korea continued as my boy Sam from Samuel & Audrey and I headed off to Namdaemun Market in Seoul to go on the ultimate Korean street food tour! Come along with us as we explore the best of Namdaemun Market!
Namdaemun Market is the oldest and biggest market in all of Korea. It dates back to 1414 and has 10,000 stalls. You can get just about anything there!
We made our way to the heart of the street food area. Our first dish was a hot dog on a stuck that is battered, covered in potatoes, and is deep-fried. It came with four sauces. My first bite was just French fries and batter! It was salty and the spicy sauce had a real kick to it! I also tried a second, sweeter sauce. It wasn’t my favorite, but it’s a good, filling treat to get on the go.
Next to the vendor was a restaurant with lots of bowls, but we wanted to stick to just street food. The prices we saw were reasonable, but there were tons of people in the market. It’s easy to feel claustrophobic with so many people!
We found lots of clothing vendors as we wound our way through the market. I wanted to get my nephews some shirts in a smaller size, but the vendors weren’t very nice to us and didn’t help us at all.
Next, we tried some fried rice cakes, which cost 1,000 won/$0.83 U.S. each. It was tough on the outside but chewy and dense in the middle. It was almost like polenta! It wasn’t bad, but wasn’t great either. It needed some sauce and was pretty bland.
We had trouble finding more street food. There was a lot more retail and it was getting frustrating trying to find some. We headed to an indoor section, down some stairs where Sam had tried gimbap before. It was a lot less crowded down there and was more relaxed.
We found the gimbap with seaweed, rice, carrot, cucumber, and radish. It was really tasty with the spicy sauce, which was wasabi mixed with soy sauce. It was really potent and had a nice crunch with the seaweed and sesame seeds on the outside. I loved that it was filled with veggies. The sauce had a quick burst of heat, and that was it! It cost just 2,000 won/$1.65 U.S. and was a great value for the quality!
Back upstairs, we went to a Korean folkcraft store, where I could see tons of souvenirs. It was like a maze!
Then I found some cool-looking Korean masks. There was an amazing black one that cost 40,000 won/$33 U.S., which I tried on. I passed on it and we headed back outside. You would barely notice the entrance hidden inside the market!
Next, we got some rice cakes. The green one was spongy with powdered peanut on the inside. It was really sweet. I liked it! The white one was also spongy and dense, but I couldn’t make out what the filling was. I liked the other one better. They cost 1,000 won for four, so they’re super affordable!
Next were mandu, which are steamed dumplings. It cost 4,000 won/$3.30 U.S. for five, but we got a discount for four. The reddish mandu contained kimchi and was hot but heavenly! There were also noodles and pork inside. It was the best thing I had all day!
The second mandu was the pork one. It was really hot and felt moist. There were more glass noodles and an abundance of pork! It was beyond amazing!
Next was tteok-bokki. It comes with fish cakes and it all comes in a super spicy, delicious sauce. I ate it almost every day in South Korea. I liked the oden better than the rice cake, but it was all so freaking good! Sweet and spicy! They also gave us some good, fishy oden broth. It cost 2,500 won, or a little over $2 U.S.
We finished up with a green tea latte, which was really refreshing and thick like a smoothie.
What a day! I hope you enjoyed this street food tour of Namdaemun Market. If you did, please give it a thumbs up and leave me a comment. Also, please subscribe to my channel and I’ll see you in the next travel/food adventure.

This short video is part of our One Week Fantastic Holiday in Seoul, South Korea in May 2019. This video covers our visit to the oldest and largest of Traditional Namdaemun Market in Korea.
More information about this market will be explained in this video.
Eating Bibimbap at Namdaemun Market in Seoul Korea is only $5 for a LOT of food.
Shopping at Namdaemun Market (남대문시장) in Seoul Korea | Life in Korea
In this travel video we visit the bustling Namdaemun Market located in the heart of the North side of Seoul. Known as the oldest continually operating market in all of Seoul and South Korea, its narrow alleys offer a glimpse into the past. One reason we were very excited to visit this market was to sample a wide variety of Korean street food. In fact, it's one of the top places in all of Seoul to sample the diverse kinds of Korean street stall food.

First we tried eating Hotteok (Hotteok is a variety of filled Korean pancake, and is a popular street food of South Korea.) which was absolutely delicious. After we had deep fried battered foods that included hot dogs, rice cakes, and lobster rolls. We stopped by a rice cookie stall where a talented Korean man showed us how he made the cookies from scratch using malt and rice flower. From all the walking around we did having this street food available was certainly a blessing.
It's late fall in Korea and there were lots of Halloween costumes and masks on display. Although Halloween is not a traditional Korean holiday, it's certainly caught on with the children here. I think part of that has to do with the fact foreigner English teachers often celebrate it with the children in the classroom. The rest of the video shows us wandering through the crowds and some random events such as a Korean man wearing a green wig singing and performing with passion on the streets. Sometimes it's those random encounters that make for the most memorable of events:
We are at Namdaemun market today. It is the largest and oldest open air market in all of Korea.
We are going to show you the different kinds of foods you can buy in this alley.
That looks pretty appetizing - what do you have there? It sure does. Well, we found some food on a stick here. They are different kind of battered food objects. If you want to take a look. We've got what appears to be a rice cake, kind of a lobster roll and as we go down a bit we've got sort of like a hot dog or sausage thingamajig. This is our first snack of the day. It looks tasty - let's try it!
Okay, I'm going to have the rice one. Very classy! Nice!
Alright, you're up. What are you going to have? I'm going to take a bite out of the hot dog, so let's see. Scarf it!
That is nice and spicy. Is it? This is really good. Yeah. You'll have to try this one too.
Sexy undies. Sexy undies. It is almost Halloween and as you can see we have a little pumpkins. Look at what we've got up here. It's a spider!
When I first met Sam he agreed to wear one of these for Halloween. Of course I did. Oh, yeah. How about right there. Nice and pink which is just my style.
Hotteok. Alma-eh-oh. Cheon Won EE Eh yo.
So we have got a delicious treat called Hotteok. It is a fried kind of sweet treat. Inside it is filled with cinnamon, honey and sugary kind of goodness. You bite into it and it is really warm. It is perfect for the fall or winter. I will take the first bite here. Oh yeah, that is good.
We found ourselves a nice little back-alley to enjoy. To feast on the hotteok. It is delicious. Show us how it is done. It is hot.
It is made of honey. It is called Malt. M A L T. Actually honey is liquid, right? With boil this for one week and make it solid because I have to show you my performance. That is corn flour. You make a hole like this. You stretch, stretch little by little.
This store right behind us sells some medicinal herbs including ginseng. In a bottle.
In here we have some interesting Korean style masks. They have various different exaggerated faces. One of them is happy. This one not so much.
