Based on salt drying and fish farming industry, Beimen District, Tainan, is far from the downtown and short of well-known attractions. Therefore, although the district boasts Nankunshen Temple, the most visited temple in Taiwan, and Jingzijiao Tile-paved Salt Fields, a spot with the most fascinating sunset, the visitor center for the district, which stands near the most featured grocer's Money Coming, was rarely frequented. The local government then came up with an idea, building an open-air landscape suitable for pre-wedding photos—just like Shimen Wedding Plaza on the North Coast. What the government did not plan is: the crystal church floating on the water had its photos circulated virally on Facebook. After that, a large throng of visitors pour in, pushing their ways to take photos on the brand-new romantic attraction, whether in the morning or at dusk. According to the rules, the public cannot cross over the fences for a close-up if they do not apply for a wedding. Hence, photography aficionados are thus able to catch the captivating scene without being blocked by visitors. In addition to the transparent church, there is a lot of outdoor installation art in the nearby plaza. The white piano invites couples to pose for a piano duet. The massive square stone carving symbolizes secure love, and the bamboo-woven red heart manifests eternal love. The exterior walls of the visitor center are also painted with various kinds of lovely patterns, and the cameras in visitors’ hands find no spare time. Although we have no idea how long these art pieces can stand in the sea breeze, a large number of visitors will make a special trip to Beimen on weekends in a year or two at least.

Nankunshen Temple
Situated in Tainan and built in 1661, the Nankunshen Temple is one of the largest scaled temples ever constructed in Taiwan. Being the home to Taiwan's Royal Lords deities, its branch temples distribute around the island. Also known as the first temple under heaven, Nankunshen Temple draws devoted worshipers to come and show their respect by practicing the unique Taiwanese religious rituals. The Nankunshen Temple has a more profound meaning than a religious sanctuary; it is a valuable cultural heritage of Taiwan.

Southwest Coast Trip (Yunlin/Chiayi/Tainan)__Boat Trip at Taijiang /西南海岸之旅 (雲林嘉義台南)__台江坐船
This September we went on a 3-day trip to the coastal areas of Yunlin, Chiayi, and Tainan. North of Tainan's Anping District is the Taijiang National Park where you can go on a boat trip to explore the mangrove forests, oyster racks, and water birds.

Tinan countryside fun!!
Hello everyone. Welcome to Time for Taiwan. My name is Michella Jade Weng. The origin of more than 10,000 branches, this is Nankunshen Temple, one of the most symbolic places of coastal Tainan. In addition to coming to see the temple, visitors to these parts also come to experience the unique local fish and salt farm life.
Ever been mudskipper catching before? They're cute, amphibious and live happily in mud.
The sensation of mud squishing through my toes is not something I could have imagined. And it's not all that soft, but it's slippery, so if you're not careful...
I knew it.
That wasn't a fart, OK?
This one is big.
Mudskippers are supposed to be very good for you, and some people eat them with soup and ginger. But we're not having any today. Too cute. No way.

So it's lunch time and today we're making our own meal of chicken and eggs, Taiwanese sausages, sweet potatoes and corn by baking it in this mud oven.
Most kids love these lunches, especially because they can help out.
More than an hour later when the oven is nice and hot and red, in go the pots, sweet potatoes, corn and sausage. Then on goes the lid and then the eggs on top of that.
Another 45 minutes later, you remove the dirt that's been keeping in the heat and lunch is served!

Ready for more fun? Late in the afternoon, Beimen's hundred-year-old salt pans are a good place to be, especially if you're looking for a nice sunset.
When you see the sun about to go beneath the horizon, you might want to get your camera ready. This is one of the must-shoot scenes for photographers in Taiwan. And even if you don't have lots of experience or a fancy camera, this is still one picture you won't want to miss. Catch the shot, and you'll remember it as the one place you'll wish to come to again.

At Budai, we checked out the fishing harbor and went to the fish market where you can eat fresh seafood.
