Nandankanan Zoological Park(Odia: ନନ୍ଦନକାନନ ଜୀବ ଉଦ୍ୟାନ) is a 400-hectare (990-acre) zoo and botanical garden in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India. Established in 1960, it was opened to the public in 1979 and became the first zoo in India to join World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) in 2009. It also contains a botanical garden and part of it has been declared a sanctuary. Nandankanan, literally meaning The Garden of Heaven, is located near the capital city, Bhubaneswar, in the environs of the Chandaka forest, and includes the 134-acre (54 ha) Kanjia lake.

A major upgrade was done in 2000 (after the damage caused by the super-cyclone of 1999 in coastal Odisha). More than 3.3 million visitors visit Nandankanan every year.

Nandankanan was established in 29 th December, 1960 over an area of 362 hectares. It has spearheaded many significant improvements to provide the highest standards of housing, husbandry and healthcare to the captive wild animals and has contributed towards enriching our knowledge of biology concerning endangered species. The zoo was conceived to protect the natural environment and the animals living in it.
Amidst the natural beauty of natural forest adjacent to Chandaka-Dampara Wildlife Sanctuary, Nandankanan lies in the vicinity of Kanjia lake. Amidst the beauty of enigmatic nature, the sanctuary comprises Zoological Park, State Botanical Garden and a National wetland i.e. Kanjia lake.

Animals in Nandankanan Zoo (Bhubaneswar)

Nandankanan Zoological Park and Botanical Garden is spread over 400 hectare in Bhubaneswar. The zoo was established in 1960 and opened to the public in 1979. After visiting Sikharchandi we went to visit Nandankanan Zoo. The zoo has many interesting animals including White Tigers, Royal Bengal Tigers, Lions, Bears, Hyppos, Rhynos, Crocodyles and various types of birds. Bhubaneswar: Visitors flock to Nandankanan Zoological Park

Visitors in large number flocked to ‘Nandankanan Zoological Park’ in Bhubaneswar. They went there to witness various species of animals. Schoolchildren also rushed inside the zoo. One can witness peacocks and different species of birds in the zoo. Bear, Indian tiger, lion were among other animals present in the zoo. Deer and monkeys were also liked by visitors. Tourists can also enjoy boat riding at ‘Nandankanan Zoological Park’.

Nandankanan Zoological park is the second biggest animal planet of India. It's distance from Bhubaneswar railway station between 20 km. And Barang railway station to 05 km. There live in all type of animals, birds, aquatic animal also. In the zoo more than 100 tiger live. Monday will be closed this zoo.
