南湖舊稱鴛鴦湖，簡稱鴛湖，位於浙江省嘉興市城南，水域面積約41.6萬平方米，水深約2到5米，與南京玄武湖、杭州西湖並稱江南三大名湖。湖中有一湖心小島，島上有一煙雨樓，是賞湖觀景的絕佳去處。
1921年8月2日，中國共產黨第一次全國代表大會在南湖的一艘絲網船上完成了大會的議程，並宣布中國共產黨成立。此後，南湖被中共視為中國的革命發祥地。
