Nantong city
Standing on the Yangtze river delta Nantong is a port city. The city covers an area of 8,544square kilometres and is interspersed by many river tributaries. Nantong is a vital river port bordering Yancheng to the north, Taizhou to the west, Suzhou and Shanghai to the south across the river, and the East China Sea to the east. The Hao River was once an ancient moat encircling Nantong City in the year of 958. With over a thousand years' history, the river is one of the four existent ancient moats in China. Along the Hao River, there are Tianning Temple, Nantong Museum and many squares, parks along with altogether 28 bridges and various species of old trees. The city is home to 7,737,900 people and it has its own airport located in the northwest.

China Completes Building of Asia's Largest Cutter Suction Dredger
China launched Asia's largest cutter suction dredger on Friday at the port of Nantong, east China's Jiangsu Province, marking a big stride forward in the country's building of dredgers.
The dredger, Tiankun, is 140 meters long and 27.8 meters wide. It can smash underwater rocks, suck out sand, water and squirt to as far as 15 km at a speed of 6,000 cubic meters per hour, equivalent to three standard swimming pools. It is the No.1 in Asia in terms of efficiency and capacity.
Built by the China Communications Construction Company, Ltd. (CCCC), the dredger is equipped with four different rimers to handle hard rocks.
The dredger is in the front ranks of the world in terms of capacity, strong in excavation and discharging and adaptation to sea conditions and good in mobility, movable to any place in the world, said Wang Jian, head of the Tiankun building team from the CCCC Tianjin Dredging Co., Ltd.
The pipelines of Tiankun have gone through optimization on many occasions to reduce in-pipe resistance and realize the maximum discharge distance from six kilometers to 15, said Kong Fanzhen, architect of Tiankun's hull from the CCCC Tianjin Dredging Co., Ltd.
It took six years to complete the building of Tiankun. It is the first self-propelled heavy cutter suction dredger designed and built entirely on China's own.
Kong expects that the success in the building of Tiankun will lead to research and development of other new equipment and new technologies.
According to plan, Tiankun will first go through a period of system and equipment trial-run before being put into use by June 2018.

Jiangnan or Jiang Nan (Chinese: 江南; pinyin: Jiāngnán; Wu: Kaon平 noe去; sometimes spelled Kiang-nan, literally South of the river) is a geographic area in China referring to lands immediately to the south of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, including the southern part of its delta. The region encompasses the city of Shanghai, the southern part of Jiangsu Province, the southeastern part of Anhui Province, the northern part of Jiangxi Province and the northern part of Zhejiang Province. The most important cities in the area are Shanghai, Anqing, Changzhou, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Ningbo, Shaoxing, Suzhou, Wuxi, Wenzhou and Zhenjiang.
Jiangnan has long been regarded as one of the most prosperous regions in China due to its wealth in natural resources and very high human development. People of the region speak Jiangnan Mandarin and Wu Chinese dialects as their native languages.
