Nantou Old Town, Shenzhen, China 南头古城
Nantou Old Town (also known as Xin'an Old Town) is an ancient city site with a long history. It has a long history of more than 1730 years.
Xin'an (Nantou) Ancient City/新安(南头)古城
This is the original county town for the county which originally encompassed Hong Kong and Shenzhen. There has been a town on this site since the fourth century. Much of the old town has been demolished and replaced by eight storey residential buildings in the urban village style, but Xin'an has still maintained the flavour of a Cantonese town throughout the ages with vibrant street life along narrow streets. The Ming Dynasty wall and gate remain magnificently preserved as do the Guan Yu Temple outside the gates, the naval and civil headquarters, a silver shop, an opium den and even a brothel. Visit the eighteenth century Flower Street or street of brothels, a narrow alley with an eighteenth century official stele denouncing the evils of prostitution.

How to go there:
By taxi: I would say it's best to get off at ShenNan Dadao/Nanxin Lu (深南大道/南新路). There is a foot bridge crossing Shennan Dadao and you should spot the GuanDi Temple/关帝庙 across the street from where you can see the South Gate of Xin'an already.
By metro: Get off at Taoyuan station (Line 1, Luobao line, green) and use Exit A or B. From there you have to walk towards north along Nanhai Ave, cross Shennan Dadao on the footbridge you see first in my video and continue to walk another 5 minutes from there along Nanhai Ave till you reach the East Gate on your left hand side.

In this episode, we take you around one of the oldest parts of Shenzhen that still exists, there isn't much left, but here is some of it in the ancient city of Xin'an in Nantou district, in the west side of Shenzhen.

Zhongshan
Zhongshan is a prefecture-level city in the south of the Pearl River Delta in Guangdong province, China, with a population of over 3 million. The city used to be called Xiangshan.
Zhongshan is one of a very few cities in China named after a person. It is named after Dr. Sun Yat-sen, who is known in Mandarin as Sun Zhongshan. Sun, the founding father of the Republic of China who is also regarded positively by the People's Republic, was born in Cuiheng village in Nanlang Township of what was then Xiangshan County. In 1925, the year after his death, Xiangshan was renamed Zhongshan in his honor.

SUMMARY
=======
Shenzhen (, Mandarin: [ʂə́n.ʈʂə̂n] (listen)) is a major city in Guangdong Province, China; it forms part of the Pearl River Delta megalopolis, bordering Hong Kong to the south, Huizhou to the northeast, and Dongguan to the northwest. It holds sub-provincial administrative status, with powers slightly less than those of a province.
Shenzhen, which roughly follows the administrative boundaries of Bao'an County, officially became a city in 1979, taking its name from the former county town, whose train station was the last stop on the Mainland Chinese section of the railway between Canton and Kowloon. In 1980, Shenzhen was established as China's first special economic zone. Shenzhen's registered population as of 2017 was estimated at 12,905,000. However, local police and authorities estimate the actual population to be about 20 million, due to large populations of short-term residents, unregistered floating migrants, part-time residents, commuters, visitors, as well as other temporary residents. Shenzhen was one of the fastest-growing cities in the world in the 1990s and the 2000s and has been ranked second on the list of ‘top 10 cities to visit in 2019 by Lonely Planet.Shenzhen's cityscape results from its vibrant economy - made possible by rapid foreign investment following the institution of the policy of reform and opening-up in 1979. The city is a leading global technology hub, dubbed by media as the next Silicon Valley.Shenzhen hosts the Shenzhen Stock Exchange as well as the headquarters of numerous multinational companies such as JXD, Vanke, Hytera, CIMC, SF Express, Shenzhen Airlines, Nepstar, Hasee, Ping An Bank, Ping An Insurance, China Merchants Bank, Tencent, ZTE, Huawei, DJI and BYD. Shenzhen ranks 14th in the 2019 Global Financial Centres Index. It has one of the busiest container ports in the world.

SUMMARY
=======
This is a list of technology centers throughout the world. Governmental planners and business networks like to use the name silicon or valley to describe their own areas as a result of the success of Silicon Valley in California. Nevertheless, there are a few qualitative differences between these places, and metrics may be applied to measure their dominance.
These metrics include:
How much and to what extent public and/or private research and development funds are spent in the zones
What percentage of local employment is technology related.
If the zone is mainly government funded or is mainly corporate driven (or both)
If mainly corporate, how much revenue and profit and which corporates have headquarters there.
If mainly corporate, how much venture capital has been made available to companies in the zone.
What supporting higher educational institutions are located in nearby.
