Nantucket's Unsafe Roads and Bike Path
In 2014 Nantucket has no comprehensive roadside vegetation management guidelines or controls. Sightlines (the distance you can see ahead) are insufficient for safety on many rural roads.
The bike path rights of way are also unmonitored. Vegetation often intrudes into the biker's space and limits vision.
The State of Massachusetts and the U.S. Department of Transportation have identical guidelines for vegetation control called Vegetation Control for Safety. The booklet addresses the issue of obscured sightlines, and suggests practices and policies for public safety. These include how to measure sightlines, where to cut brush at intersections, scheduling and record keeping. It also defines what may be considered legal negligence in the case of an accident.
Naushop + Nashaquisset, Nantucket Neighborhoods
Naushop is a mid-island neighborhood and classic Americana community with tree-lined streets, pristine landscaping, brick driveways and traditional Nantucket architecture. It also offers tennis courts, community pools and is family friendly. There are frequently plenty of children riding their bikes around the hydrangea-covered cul-de-sacs.

Nantucket, Massachusetts - Edventure #3
Labor Day weekend 2009 - I traveled to Nantucket Island for the first time and loved it. My upcoming photos will detail many of the exact places and sights I visited but this video gives an alternative, fun perspective. It includes shots of downtown, west/east/south beaches, whaling museum, life saving museum, hostel, and the Polpis bike trail. Enjoy and I will update later with more details. Thanks!

Wikipedia:
Nantucket is an island 30 miles (48.3 km) south of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, in the United States. Together with the small islands of Tuckernuck and Muskeget, it constitutes the town of Nantucket, Massachusetts, and the coterminous Nantucket County, which are consolidated. Part of the town is designated the Nantucket CDP, or census designated place. The region of Surfside on Nantucket is the southernmost settlement in Massachusetts.
Nantucket is a tourist destination and summer colony. The population of the island soars from approximately 10,000 to 50,000 during the summer months, due to tourists and summer residents. According to Forbes Magazine, in 2006, Nantucket had the highest median property value of any Massachusetts zip code.
The Nantucket Historic District, comprising all of Nantucket Island, was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 13, 1966. In doing so the National Park Service paid particular note to the settlements of Nantucket and Siasconset. The island features one of the highest concentrations of pre-Civil War structures in the United States.
Nantucket - Short Film
Nantucket is a small island in the Atlantic Ocean that is a part of the state of Massachusetts. Located just 30 miles south of Cape Cod, this island is the home of nearly 10,000 residents. However, during the summer months, tourists and seasonal vacationers make their way to Nantucket to unwind and relax. With the help of the ocean and just a few visits into town, this little island will soon find a special place in your heart.

New England Living - Nantucket
With the summer fast approaching, people are starting to make their summer vacation or weekend plans. One perennial favorite is a trip to the far away island of Nantucket. Most people remark that their first impression of the island is that it's like taking a trip back in time with all the beautifully restored antique homes and signature cobblestone streets.

When people think of architecture on Nantucket, the name Lyman Perry (lparchitects.com) often comes to mind. This award-winning architect offered us the magnificent home on Nantucket Island that we fully enjoyed touring with viewers. This is quintessential New England living in 2005!
Host Pam Fletcher takes us to the moors of Nantucket for a profile of the Cranberry Harvest Festival and a visit to the Historical Association's (nha.com) annual Harvest Fair. We also feature the Nantucket Lightship Basket Cooperative. In addition, a personal profile of artist/photographer Cary Hazlegrove (hazlegrove.com), whose photo essays beautifully capture the undiscovered side of Nantucket.
