Nanwan beach is one of the most visited beach in Kenting National park, Kenting, Taiwan. It is also called as south bay. You will see a large number of people doing water surfing there.
This video was captured on 31-Dec-2016 and we captured last sunset of the year in this video.
How to reach there - If you are coming in Kenting Express bus from Kaohsiung, it has stop at Nanwan beach. Moreover, Blue line and Orange line of Kenting Shuttle bus stop here.

South Coast
Between the Maobitou peninsula on the west and Eluanbi peninsula on the east, this is Kenting’s most popular tourist area, with a high concentration of beaches and resorts as well as restaurants, bars, cafes, and boutiques.
Nanwan, or South Bay, is in the crook where Maobitou and the main body of the Hengchun Peninula meet. This is the best and most popular locale for inshore frolicking—swimming, windsurfing, jet-skiing, kayaking, banana-boating, skin-diving, snorkeling, what have you. There are change rooms, showers, and shops renting all necessary gear/toys. Adding to Nanwan’s allure is the fact it is second only to nearby Kending town, which we visit next, for restaurants and watering holes.
Kending is fun-central in the park. This is where all the action happens at night. Highway 26 does double-duty as the town’s main street, and as the sun retires over the western horizon each day local residents don vendors’ hats and line both sides with food stalls. Backing them are scores of bricks-and-mortar enticements, with everything from cafes, bars, and restaurants to indie-designer jewelry and crafts shops. On the town’s eastern edge are some especially entertaining sights – small lorries which, once the shutters on the back cabins are lowered, magically become bars and pizzerias. Owners set up seating alongside. The former are stocked to “the rafters” with famous spirits brands, and the latter have flatbed-mounted brick pizza ovens.
Off Kending’s eastern end, in a pretty sheltered cove, is the Xiaowan (“Small Bay”) beach, directly across Highway 26 from two of the park’s resort-hotel queens, one of these the Howard Beach Resort (see Box). During the day a wide range of watersports equipment is available for rent at the beach. At night, after the water-focused fun ceases, the wide-deck wood-theme café/eatery here transforms into a mellow open-air bar, ’70s rock complementing the soothing music of arriving waves.
East of Kending is Banana Bay, site of a miniscule fishing harbor. On either side of its cement breakwater walls is easily accessible upraised-coral shoreline, beyond which is an underwater world popular with divers.
Nearby iconic park attractions are Shadao and Sail Rock. The first is a magnificent 300m stretch of protected beach that actually shines. In the on-site exhibition hall, it’s said this is Taiwan’s purest shell-sand; the coast makes a dramatic 90-degree turn here, meaning materials are washed in and churned but not easily washed out. Sail Rock is a towering 18m-high slab of exposed coral offshore said either to resemble a Chinese imperial war junk or US President Richard Nixon’s profile. But what I see is a Kenting angelfish.

【台灣好好玩】怎麽去墾丁 Taiwan Travel Guide | Kenting Beach Southern Taiwan
Kenting (墾丁, pronounced Ken-ding) is a popular holiday destination in Taiwan for tourists and locals. Come with us on a day trip to this beautiful place - there's lots more waiting for you here in Kenting!
HOW TO GET TO KENTING (FROM KAOHSIUNG):
FROM ZUOYING: The Kenting Express Bus leaves from Zuoying station (which contains both the high speed rail station and MRT station) and takes approximately 2.5 hours to reach Kenting Main Street. You can buy tickets from the Kenting Express Booth at the station (at the top of the escalators just outside the High Speed Rail Station) or you can buy tickets online here ( I recommend buying in advance for weekends, holidays and in peak season (July/August school holidays). The cost is nt300 per person, one way. The website is in Chinese but if you use the Chrome browser your phone/computer should automatically translate the pages - enough to figure out what you are doing. The bus has free wifi and USB charging ports.
FROM THE AIRPORT: There are also buses that leave from the Kaohsiung airport (also known as Xiaogang airport). You can only buy these tickets at the airport. There's a timetable here: You'll notice the destination on the website reads Xiaowan - this beach is right next to Kenting main street.
FROM KAOHSIUNG TRAIN STATION: Buses also leave from Kaohsiung Main Station although the pickup point is not clearly signposted - it's behind the MRT station. At time of writing (April 2018) the Kaohsiung main station is under heavy construction and I would recommend just catching the MRT to Zuoying instead rather than trying to find the bus amongst the chaos!
Beware of taxi drivers convincing you to ride with them - the fare is never cheaper than the bus, they will make you wait until their taxi is full of passengers, and the ride will definitely be less comfortable. It's definitely best to ignore them and get on the bus!
What to do in Kenting
There's quite a lot to do in Kenting, Taiwan - but it might be a bit different from the beach holidays you are used to. You can:
Relax on the beach - get a beer at the beach bar at Xiaowan ( find shelter under a crag - and if you have kids watch them play safely in the little stream that connects the river to the sea. There are also a range of water sports available here,
Browse the night market ( - this starts at sundown and is reportedly the longest in Taiwan. My personal favourite snacks here are the fried milk and the banana pancake.
Visit the Aquarium ( - I haven't done this yet but it's apparently a very good aquarium (just be aware that it's a bit outside Kenting, perhaps pair it with a day trip to Hengchun town),
Wander around Hengchun old town (perhaps start at Hengchun south gate ( and work towards Hengchun old street),
Swim at Nanwan beach ( - this beach is my personal favourite for swimming and it's also good for collecting shells and sea glass.
Learn to surf with Afei (who also runs a bed and breakfast):
Enjoy a meal at Bossa Nova ( run by a lovely Taiwanese family and their French daughter-in-law,
See fire coming out of the ground at Chuhuo natural gas spring (
Bird watch at Longluantan (
Eat sushi and ride in a glass bottom boat at Houbihu (
Snap a selfie at the southernmost point of Taiwan (
Check out Sail Rock, a huge coral reef rock that apparently looks like President Nixon (
How to get around Kenting
Hire an electric scooter - for nt600 per day you can hire a scooter to get around. There are many scooter hire stores on Kenting main street. No licence is needed but you do need your passport.
Catch the shuttle bus - a whole day ticket is nt150 and you can buy it on the bus - just say ONE DAY PASS clearly and they will understand. Map and timetable can be found here ( all in Chinese unfortunately. Alternatively, you can just pay with change as you go. The downside is that the buses don't come very often and the stops aren't that easy to find.
Taxi - being a holiday area, taxis often do not run the meter but will rather negotiate a fare with you up front. Taiwanese taxi drivers are generally not out to rip you off but you will definitely pay more than in other cities in Taiwan (if you are a westerner you will likely still think the price is very cheap compared to home). In return, you will ride in air conditioning!

Nedá se nic dělat, ale když bydlíme kousek vedle pláže, musíme tam chodit zkrátka každý den. Dnešní pozdravení z jižní pláže bílého písku, na skútru asi 15 minut od města Hengchun a necelých 20 minut od Kentingu.

Travel in Kenting Shuttle Bus, Taiwan - P2
Kenting shuttle bus is the easiest way to move around in Kenting. There are various lines like blue line, orange line and green line. The shuttle buses cover most of the famous tourist places like Nanwan beach, Xiaowan beach, Moubitou, Youth activity center, Eluanbi park and many more.
NOTE: You have to check bus schedule before you start your journey. One day pass can be purchased for 150 NT$ as of Jan 2017.

So, we decided to head over to Kaohsiung and bought the tix a month prior to our trip. It was a rather impromptu trip, as well as our first ever trip together (not including all the Music Exchange Trips we had with our Chinese Orchestra)! Also, this was the first time both of us left SG during National Day :/
We arrived at Kaohsiung and Shini's dad's friend came over to fetch us to Kenting for our 2-days adventures there. We then took the bus back to Kaohsiung and continue another 2-days exploring the quiet city.
In Kenting, we visited Feng Chui Sha, Hengchun, Kenting Night Market, Nan Wan, Bai Sha Wan and Mao Bi Tou! We also visited Liu He Night Market, Love River, Pier-2 Art Center, Cijin Island, Xin Jue Jiang, Tower 85, Formusa Boulevard and Lotus Pond in Kaohsiung!
I would say that this was a very adventurous trip for us because we got to experience so much! Just by the transportation wise, we got to ride an electric scooter and a bicycle, took a cab, Uber, local car, bus, train, ferry and even the police car, hahaha. Also, we got so badly sunburnt while exploring Kenting and Cijin Island... Fast forward 2 months later... it's still evident that we went Kenting because of the (super obvious) sunburnt marks left on our skin.
Nonetheless, it was a good trip with #妮x妮!
PS: So sorry! There's condensation in my DSLR lens and hence some of the video footages are very poor in quality! :(
