Kruger National Park - Napi Wilderness Trail
There is so much more to experience in the Kruger National Park than just the big five game animals.
I discovered this on the Napi Wilderness trail in April. What an incredible experience to walk through the bush with experienced game rangers and learn about the trees and plants, we did spot three of the big five on the way. Read more about the experience on my blog - myjoburgfooddiary.com

Mathikithi Wilderness Trail - Kruger National Park
Kruger Park's wilderness trails are the absolute best, most intense and special safari experience possible. Three nights spent with the wild bush all to yourselves in a rustic camp deep in the middle of the park. Each morning, you go on a 4-5 hour walk through the park, with two armed rangers to escort you safely and to show you the ins and outs of nature. Seeing the wild on foot gives an entirely different perspective than by vehicle. You get to ignite your senses with the sights, sounds, smells, the feel and even tastes of the bush. The silence is blissful and cathartic as you hike quietly in a single file, stopping to see all the smaller things – the signs and tracks that the animals leave behind, and to learn about the incredible ways that the plants have adapted to survive and thrive though every season. Pure magic!

Best Wilderness hiking trail Kruger - Nyalaland
Nyalaland hiking trail in the open wilderness. Phunda Maria, Kruger National Park. The camp and the trail is in non-fenced area where wild cats such as lions, leopards and other wild animals like hyenas and elephants can appear. The thrill of being in that area was amazing. Outdoor showers. No electricity. Open fire, candles, solar powered fridge, camp tents

Lebombo Eco Trail Kruger National Park South Africa
The #LebomboEcoTrail is a 5-day (4 night) outdoor adventure spanning a great part of the #KrugerNationalPark.
Bookings and #Reservations
knpsafaris.co.za
Called the “wilderness experience on wheels”, the Overland Trail follows the eastern boundary of the Kruger National Park along the Lebombo hills from the extreme South to the extreme North. Experienced, professional guides act as trail leaders and will interpret the various ecozones the trail crosses, at regular intervals.
Although it is not strictly speaking a 4x4 challenge, road conditions
vary from reasonably good to a few places with steep inclines and muddy patches where guests are asked to engage in 4 x 4. Without 4 x 4 capabilities, wheels might spin and the road might be damaged. Therefore only 4 x 4 vehicles and only genuine off-road trailers or caravans are allowed.
The trail departs from Crocodile Bridge every Sunday and ends at Pafuri on a Thursday during the dry season from the 1st Sunday in April to the last Sunday in October, after which the rainy season normally commences. Only 5 vehicles plus the guide’s vehicle are allowed on the trail at any one time, with a maximum of 4 people per vehicle.
Please note that the route may be closed completely after heavy rains.
Additional Information
This Trail is rated as the best eco-trail in Southern Africa due to the diversity of the fauna and flora encountered en route.
The route covers a distance of over 500km. Clients are required to drive their own vehicles, cater for themselves and to carry their own equipment. Guests also need to bring their own firewood and water. At each of the campsites there is a drum for ash but each vehicle needs to carry there own rubbish until it can be disposed of at one of the camps. A maximum of 4 persons per vehicle is allowed.
