Barot a village, originally developed in 1920s for Shanan Hydel Project is now a tourist location in Mandi district in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. Barot was difficult to access until 1975 when a road was opened. It is situated 40 km from Jogindernagar and 66 km from Mandi, the district headquarters. The road route includes terraced fields and thick cedar forests, rising to Jhatingri at the hilltop. The remains of the summer palace of the former rulers of Mandi are located here.Through the little village of Tikkan, the road carries on to Barot. The town has a range of outdoor activities, including a trout breeding centre from where fish are released into the Uhl.
Barot also forms the gateway to the Nargu Wildlife Sanctuary which lies across the Uhl. The sanctuary is home to the monal, black bear and ghoral.

The closest railway station is at Jogindernagar, terminus of the narrow gauge railway line connecting Jogindernagar to Pathankot. The line is operated by Northern Railways, a division of Indian Railways.

Under this long shared vision, the state set up the Kullu Wildlife Division with a total of 7 wildlife sanctuaries namely Manali, Khokhan, Kais and Kanawar in the district of Kullu; and Nargu, Bandli and Shikari Devi in the Mandi district.

Barot was hard to access until 1975 when a street was opened. It is located 40 km from Jogindernagar and 66 km from Mandi. In Hot summers one of the best option to hang out near Delhi, Chandigarh. Fewer hotels only small guest houses, secret and lonely place. Wonderful valley with 2 river meeting at a Dam site. Barot valley is one of the fastest growing summer season tourist spots in Mandi district. You can hang out here with family or friends. Reachable by road and filled with beautiful spots all the way.
The Uhl River situated here not just sustains citizens and also wildlife, however, is likewise a trout breeding center and also has a few fish ranches, making it prominent for fishing. Across the river, Uhl is the Nargu Wildlife Sanctuary, Home to Himalayan goral (of the goat family) a variety of pheasants and also Himalayan black bears. A trip path cuts across the Shelter to Kullu. The encompassing evergreen timberlands are home to deodar trees. A variety of trekking trails exist here, making it popular hiking and also a day tourist destination. A temple, of Dev Pashakot, the rain deity sits across the Uhl and also can be visited.
Weather in Barot: Barot weather is fairly moderate that neither too hot in summers nor too cold in winters. The average annual temperature is close to 16°C. Barot can be visited at any time of the year except for monsoons because the place receives heavy rainfall due to surrounding dense forests.

Barot Valley trek, camping, and fishing are some of the famous activities of this area.
The Barot is a preferred hub for paragliding to exploring the great Himalayas. The flight lasts for about 15 to 30 minutes with an experienced paraglider.
Fishing in River Uhl: Fishing in the Uhl River is well known in Barot. A trout breeding center makes it a perfect place for angling and over 30 Km of the river is used for this purpose.
Camping: Camping by the banks of River Uhl is another attraction in Barot Valley. It is exceptional for family outings or for weekend excursions far away from the bustling, hectic city life.

Barot is a frequent backpacker and day tourist destination. Many trekking trails pass through Barot, including trails to Bada Bhangal, Manali and Kullu. Most tourists are attracted by the serene surroundings and availability of cheap accommodation.
Of late, Barot is also developing into an angling destination. The Uhl river supports trout breeding and Barot has a few fish farms. Across the river Uhl is the Nargu Wildlife Sanctuary, home to goral, Himalayan black bear and a variety of pheasants. Three artificial lakes including one reservoir on Uhl river enhance the beauty of this magnificent hidden treasure as one enters the Barot village near Dhrangan. An old fountain channelising the waters of Uhl erupting at regular intervals is another source of attraction. Just opposite the fountain, two centeres of religious faith are situated. One is the temple of Dev Pashakot, the local deity of rain whereas the other is old temple which have been the witness to majority of couples of valley getting tied in marital bonds. The Thandi Golai ground on the way to old Mayot road is the camp site for various trekkers organised by the trekking organisers. Rulling, the highest village in Mandi district is just an hour's uphill trek falling in Lapas panchayat.
