A tour of La Boca Barrio (Caminito) in Buenos Aires, Argentina
One of the most colorful and touristy areas you can visit in Buenos Aires is Caminito located in the heart of La Bocca Barrio (nieghborhood). Here you can enjoy overpriced meals, tango shows, souvenir shopping and people watching as you marvel at all of the colorful architecture. Nearby is where the Boca Juniors football club plays its home games. Overall, we feel it's worth a visit but is not an area you'd need to linger or return again.
A tour of La Boca Barrio (Caminito) in Buenos Aires, Argentina Travel Video Transcript:
So new vlog from Buenos Aires. Today we are visiting a neighborhood called La Boca. And it is know for its very colorful buildings and it is actually very touristy which means the prices here are quite high. Yeah, we just got absolutely fleeced for lunch. It was one of the most expensive meals we've had in South America and it was to be honest disgusting. But you know what we got charged one price for pasta and then like an extra five dollars for the tomato sauce. And then they charged us, with my parents, and they charged us like what like almost fifteen dollars for service. It was outrageous. Anyways, we're going to make the most of this afternoon and forget about that awful meal. Let's forget the meal and go sightseeing.
This tree has a knit sweater.
So to tell you a little bit about the neighborhood. It was settled by Italian immigrants and this area is in the southeast end of the city and it is right at the mouth of the river and that is how Boca gets its name. Boca, means mouth. Um, and yeah, there are a few streets that are very touristy; however, if you wander away from Caminito and that general area it is a little rough around the edges so we're going to try and show you both sides. Touristy Boca and regular old Boca.
So right now this is touristy Boca. Lots of restaurants. You can watch Tango shows on the street. Yes, you can pose and pretend to be a tango dancer. Yes, you can pose with football players who looks like famous football players. Yeah, there is a guy who looks like Maradona. And he even has a beer belly just like him. Impressive! And you can also buy souvenirs. There is a flea market around here and also just lots of souvenir shops. You can lighten the load of your wallet. A great place to do that.
So Sam, you don't really follow football but can you tell us who you are standing next to? I don't follow football but I know enough that is Maradona. The only and only. Maradona!
Little anecdote for us. Yes, one of the funniest comments we've had on our YouTube channel recently was during our Cholitas wrestling match. Someone said the referee looked just like Maradona. And now that I'm seeing Maradona statues all over the place and impersonators. That was a very very clever observation. He totally did. He totally looked like Maradona.
And now for a spin around less touristy Boca. Yeah. No crowds here. It's a lot quieter. A lot quieter, we're just walking along the rail-tracks. We're actually heading towards the stadium. Yes, because football is a big deal here. This is where Boca Juniors comes from. And, oh, they love their futbol. Yes, they do.
And we came all the way to Boca to meet Messi. Number 10.
So for the hardcore football fans another cool thing you can do in Buenos Aires is visit the Boca Juniors stadium. It is called La Bombonera and that means the chocolate box. I don't really think it looks like a chocolate box. I mean it is this giant yellow stadium. A colorful chocolate box. But yeah, it is right over there. So let's go check it out.
Final thoughts. Boca! Boca! Okay. I've been to Boca once before and I think one visit is probably enough. I mean, once you've seen the touristy bits there isn't a whole lot to do in my opinion. Um, so yeah nice for like half day visit I'd say. Maybe have a meal but not in the main road or you'll get ripped off. A one time only deal. One time only. I agree with you. I totally agree with you. Yeah. Yep. Okay. Good!

So... if Buenos Aires is on your South America route, whether you're English speaking or Spanish, La Boca is definitely a must see.
Tango at coolest barMALBA museumHandmade fettuccini at Argentinian restaurant[Buenos Aires travel]
We have finally committed to tango lessons! We have tried to make it a bit easier on ourselves by combining them with nice bar and very flattering lighting at a var with a couple friends from our language academy. Without any spoilers, we don’t expect to be winning any tango competitions anytime soon! The bar itself is called the Cathedral and it is particularly cool, with a massive paper mache heart hanging from the roof.
We check out Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires (MALBA), definitely one of the most diverse and intriguing art galleries we have been to. We really enjoyed the interactive exhibits on the top level.
On the way to the museum, we got super hungry so we stopped into a local pizza and pasta place which was reasonably nice despite the food being a little luke warm.
And of course! We have a LOT of home cooking - homemade tteokbokki using gnocchi instead of rice cake (surprisingly great!), some great ravioli with homemade sauce. We ordered a fugazzeta pizza - the most quintessential Argentinian pizza! Unbelievably cheesy and covered in onions; so good!
Who are we?
We are Tom and Yenny, two New Zealand young professionals who have quit our job and are learning Spanish as we travel through South America! We always like to travel on a budget so please subscribe to see all the places we go and all of our stingy ways of going there!
We love cooking, checking out new places, trying new types of food, beer and wine, camping, and anything else that we haven't tried (outrageous weird foods included!).
Where are we going?
We're travelling throughout every South American country that speaks Spanish and (if we have money left!) heading up to Central America too!
We would LOVE to hear from you about your experiences in South America, your travel experiences or any other tips or thoughts! Please make sure to comment if you've got anything you think we should do while we're here.

Dancers from across the globe travel to Buenos Aires for qualifying rounds of the Argentine tango's
(17 Aug 2017) DANCERS FLOCK TO BUENOS AIRES FOR ARGENTINE'S TANGO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
The annual pilgrimage to Argentina's much-loved dance the tango continued on Thursday (17 AUG. 2017) in Buenos Aires with the qualifying rounds of the world championships stage category.
Now in its 15th year, the 2017 edition of the event is taking place in the Art Factory in the emblematic neighborhood of La Boca, which is often known as the cradle of the sensual dance.
549 couples representing 51 different countries will compete this year, making it a record number of foreign contestants.
We really feel that we danced with all our hearts and (in tango) that is the most important thing, said Martha Caballero, who makes up one of 12 different couples representing Colombia in this years event.
While many recognise the sensual dance for its macho manoeuvres, same sex couples are now a regular addition to the competition.
Said to have been born in the bordellos of 19th century Buenos Aires, tango was initially performed by pairs of men.
The 2017 edition of the world tango festival will culminate with two separate finals, the floor tango category will be decided on Aug. 22 before the finals of the stage tango will bring this years event to an end on Aug. 23.

Buenos Aires - City Video Guide
Buenos Aires combines European architecture with a Latin passion for soccer, juicy cuts of meat, and of course, the tango!
Buenos Aires was established as a trading port in the 16th century and soon became one of the richest countries in the world. Since then the city's fortunes have faded, but its splendor remains.
The melancholy of the city's fading riches resonates in the sweeping lament of the tango. Enjoy lunch in the harbor of La Boca, where this famous dance originates.
Explore El Caminito, the city's most famous walkway, then tour La Bombonera, once the home ground of soccer legend Diego Maradona.
Browse the colonial buildings of San Telmo and enjoy the sea breezes at the redeveloped Puerto Madero.
Don't miss Casa Rosada (The Pink House), the presidential palace and former residence of Eva Perón.
Arts lovers will enjoy the MALBA in Palermo and the Teatro Colón. Afterwards, catch a tango show in nearby Café Tortoni.
Visit Plaza San Martín, home of the Falklands War Memorial before touring the National Congress building at Plaza del Congreso.
End your day with an evening stroll in Puerto Madero, or dance until dawn in this truly rhythmic city.
Obama, First Lady Dance Tango at State Dinner in Buenos Aires
U.S. President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama danced the tango at an official state dinner in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Wednesday during their visit to the Latin American country.
The surprise moment came at the end of the candlelit dinner at the Kirchner Cultural Center.
After completing their own performances, two professional dancers encouraged the U.S. president and his wife to join them to dance the tango, which has its roots in the Argentine capital.
Argentina's President Mauricio Macri later gave a toast saying that everybody at the dinner was fascinated with Michelle Obama.
And in a more serious tone, he said Obama's visit came at a perfect time in which Argentina has decided to build mature, sensible relations with all countries.
In turn, Obama said his visit to Argentina aims, among other things, to hold a new and very different era with the continent.
