Matchedash to Georgian Bay - Paddle Lake Country
The versatility of this route makes it a great paddle and a new experience for some. Enjoy the crystal clear waters of Georgian Bay from Matchedash Bay out to Green Island. Take in the rugged beauty of the rock cuts and your backdrop as you paddle around Green Island – you have entered the Georgian Bay 30,000 Islands National Park. For those more experienced, go a bit further and out into the open water of Georgian Bay but note that winds can blow up out of nowhere taking the waters from calm to extreme in the matter of minutes. Connect to the Coldwater River Route through the opposite end of Matchedash Bay. For route information and launch points visit PaddleLakeCountry.com

Path to the Fish Weirs - Paddle Lake Country
Paddle through Lakes Simcoe and Couchiching and visit a National Historic Site of Canada: the Mnjikaning Fish Weirs. Located just below the surface in the Narrows, which connects Lake Simcoe to Lake Couchiching, the weirs are an important site of gathering and healing for First Nations people. The word Mnjikaning is Ojibwe which translates to “fish fence” and the weirs are a system of wooden stakes used to catch fish entering Lake Couchiching. This area was rich in food and the seasonal harvests provided sustenance to the First Nations and settler communities that lived and travelled through the area. French explorers Etienne Brulé and Samuel de Champlain visited the weirs and noted their beauty and plentiful wildlife in their writings. As paddlers travel Lake Couchiching they will pass some small islands. On main land you can connect with multi use trails and parks. There are picnic spots and beaches for swimming, providing an abundance of scenic natural landscapes and wildlife viewing. For route information and launch points visit PaddleLakeCountry.com
Lake Couchiching - Cottage & Fishing
Booked a cottage with Airbrb over the May long weekend and had fun with the 'camping crew'
The cottage was in Orillia, off of Grays Bay Road just around the corner from Casino Rama.
Fishing from the dock was full of dinks but the from canoe was good.
Backcountry 2011 - Severn River Conservation Reserve Canoe Route
A canoe trip to the Severn River Provincial Conservation Reserve near Bala, Ontario completed in August of 2011. We parked at the Nine Mile Lake Marina and paddled down the Upper portion of the Gibson River into Woodland Lake and then Brotherson's lake where we camped for the night. We returned via portages to Turtle Lake and back to Nine Mile Lake. The Upper Gibson is very shallow and narrow in parts with rougher portages and this gets one away from the crowds that accompany many Muskoka canoe routes.

Solo Across Lake Simcoe
On August 18, 2016, I fulfilled a 10 year dream of paddling solo across Lake Simcoe by sea kayak. Paddled from Innisfil Beach Park to Beaverton via Georgina island. About 2 hours into my paddle I saw rain clouds on the east side of Lake Simcoe. I don't remember seeing this in the forecast!.
I wasn't scared as I had worked out all my exit strategies hundreds of times in my head, on Google Maps and paper. I had been caught in wind storms on Lake Simcoe, Lake Ontario, Georgian Bay, in the fjords of the Saguenay River,... My only fear was adding the word fear to my vocabulary. And that didn't happen. My focus was not just the other side, but appreciating being out there.
Those who succeed always use the tools, the abilities they have, not what they wish they had.
Note: There were many reasons for paddling solo: honour my grandparents and parents for moving to Canada, show my adult daughter what she already knew - you can do anything you set your mind to (and does), pay homage to the Ojibway people as they were the first, and to remember those who cross large bodies of water (Pacific Ocean,Timor Sea, the Meditarranean...) in search of a safer place to live.
A solo is always with the gift, the support of others, past and present.

Exploring under a bridge -Washago Ontario
I decided to put this gorgeous day to good use and set out to Washago, Ontario for an adventure. I did some geocaching then strolled on over to the train bridge where I shot some underwater footage. I captured many species of fish , and saw lots of other wildlife, and many kayakers as well. I focused mainly on the bluegills in this video, but do you see the other species I was also talking about? I noticed theres a huge significant decrease in the number of Gobys' in this section of river as well.. what do you think has helped eliminate these invasive misfits? Please be aware this video is unedited and raw, so it may contain camera movement, sound, slow parts and or a date stamp. This was one of my favorite videos from today and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Idiot Dog Owner at Bass Lake Orillia June 22nd 2012
So around 4 pm or so on Friday June 22nd this guys dog starts swimming out to this other dog that's swimming with these two guys...anyways, this jack ass starts yelling that he's going to drown his dog, this guys kid who looks no older than 11 is standing right there, I'm shocked because you could really tell this guy meant it. He said it again and then he gets out there, gets his dog and starts walking back to shore. Then the two guys who were out there also heard him say that he was going to drown his dog...they confronted him and it erupted into this big thing.
When we drove away both sides were waiting for the O.P.P. to show up.
Sorry for the shaky camera work...I was trying to shoot it without them seeing me...and I was also watching my son at the same time, so I wasn't looking .
**I removed the sound because my Son was with me and he was talking**

Fish Fence Kanaka Creek
Oct. 17, 2015. I paid a visit to the Kanaka Creek Fish Fence, located just off 240th Street in Maple Ridge, British Columbia. It is still early in the spawning season, but there were some salmon there none the less. The creek itself is very shallow, due to the long, dry summer that we experienced. More rain needed.
