The Naruto whirlpools (鳴門の渦潮 Naruto no Uzushio) are tidal whirlpools in the Naruto Strait, a channel between Naruto in Tokushima and Awaji Island in Hyōgo, Japan.
The strait between Naruto and Awaji island has a width of about 1.3 km (0.81 miles). The strait is one of the connections between the Pacific Ocean and the Inland Sea, a body of water separating Honshū and Shikoku, two of the main islands of Japan. The tide moves large amounts of water into the Inland Sea twice per day and also removes large amounts of water twice a day. With a range of up to 1.7 m (5.6 ft), the tide creates a difference in the water level of up to 1.5 m (4 ft 11 in) between the Inland Sea and the Pacific. Due to the narrowness of the strait, the water rushes through the Naruto channel at a speed of about 13–15 km/h (8–9 mph) four times a day, twice flowing in and twice flowing out. During a spring tide, the speed of the water may reach 20 km/h (12 mph), creating vortices up to 20 m (66 ft) in diameter.
The current in the strait is the fastest in Japan and the fourth fastest in the world after the Saltstraumen outside Bodø in Norway, which reaches speeds of 37 km/h (23 mph), the Moskenstraumen off the Lofoten islands in Norway (the original maelstrom), which reaches speeds of 27.8 km/h (17.3 mph); and the Old Sow whirlpool in New Brunswick, Canada, which has been measured with a speed of up to 27.6 km/h (17.1 mph).
The whirlpools can be observed from ships, or from the Naruto Bridge spanning the strait. The suspension bridge has a total length of 1,629 m (5,344 ft), with the center span over the strait having a length of 876 m (2,874 ft) and a height of 41 m (135 ft) above sea level. The phenomenon occurs when opposing currents from the Seto Inland Sea and the Kii Channel meet in the Naruto Strait with a water level difference of as much as 1.5 meters, which is made by the ebb and flow of the tide. At the time of the flood tide in the spring through the fall, huge whirlpools running at 20 kilometers an hour and that exceed 20 meters in diameter occur. The outgoing tide creates the south current that forms whirlpools on the Kii Strait/Pacific Ocean side. The incoming tides create the north current that forms whirlpools on the Seto Inland Sea side.
Exploring the Naruto Whirlpools in Japan!｜Day 67 - Hyogo
The Naruto whirlpools occur along the Shikoku coast of the Naruto Strait, and are created by the large volumes of water moving between the Seto Inland Sea and the Pacific Ocean between high and low tide, combined with the unique underwater geography of the narrow strait.
According to the change of tides, the whirlpools occur roughly every six hours and can typically be seen once in the morning and once in the afternoon for an hour or two. The whirlpools vary in size, depending on the intensity of the tides. They tend to be larger in summer than in winter, and are largest during spring tides, which occur every two weeks.

今次去到日本德島縣拍有名嘅鳴門漩渦，每逢潮夕漲退，大量海水流過鳴門海峽而產生一個個大漩渦，有啲超過20m直徑，蔚為奇觀！
鳴門海峽闊1.4km, 雖然唔係禁飛區，為左低調拍攝走遠啲，揀左半公里外海邊起飛，最遠點要飛越2km，當日風唔大訊號清，可惜CrystalSky唔知點解途中話失聯（但個控明明連住）搞到要RTH，最後放棄CS用返手機，浪費左唔少電量時間！
橋底有「渦之道」去到海中心，可透過地面窗口睇腳底下嘅漩渦，地面片今次初用VeltaG雲台加Hero5，拍2.7k 60fps方便出慢鏡，後製用FCP調色。

Naruto is a beautiful place, a little tip of land with a bridge crossing over to Awaji Island that is connected to Japan's great Honshu island by the longest suspension bridge in the world, Akashi Kaikyo bridge. As if that's not cool enough, beneath Naruto bridge is the famous Naruto tidal whirlpools you can view by boat or from the bridge. We spent the night beside the bridge, enjoying Japanese food & an onsen overlooking the beautiful views of the Naruto Strait.

The view from the pedestrian #bridge over the #OnarutoBridge is magnificent although it was very windy above there. The bridge connects the cities of #Naruto and Minamiawaji and crosses the Naruto Strait, famous for its #whirlpools. It is one of the largest #suspension #bridges in the #world.

Ōdaiko : One of the most memorable drums of many taiko ensembles is the ōdaiko (大太鼓). For many, the ōdaiko solo is the embodiment of power due to the size of the drum, the volume, and the endurance it takes to perform. The ōdaiko is the largest drum of all taiko, if not the entire world. The largest ōdaiko are too big to move and permanently reside inside a temple or shrine. Ōdaiko means big taiko, but within any group, it describes the largest drum in an ensemble, which could mean 12 inches (300 mm) in diameter or 12 feet (3.7 m) in diameter. Made from a single piece of wood, some ōdaiko come from trees that are hundreds of years old.
Kodō (鼓童?) is a professional taiko drumming troupe. Based on Sado Island, Japan, they have had a role in popularizing taiko drumming, both in Japan and abroad. They regularly tour Japan, Europe, and the United States.
Although the main focus of the performance is taiko drumming, other traditional Japanese musical instruments such as fue and shamisen make an appearance on stage as do traditional dance and vocal performance. Kodo's performance include pieces based on the traditional rhythms of regional Japan, pieces composed for Kodo by contemporary songwriters, and pieces written by Kodo members themselves. The numbers that Kodo perform can change from concert to concert. Kodo's performance normally lasts for about one hour and forty minutes.
In Japanese the word Kodo conveys two meanings: heartbeat the primal source of all rhythm and, read in a different way, the word can mean children of the drum, a reflection of Kodo's desire to play their drums simply, with the heart of a child.
Kodo strives to both preserve and re-interpret traditional Japanese performing arts. From worldwide tours and research trips, Kodo brings back to Sado world music and experiences which now exert a strong influence on the group's performances and compositions. They also collaborate with other artists and composers.
Since their debut at the Berlin Festival in 1981, Kodo have given over 3,100 performances on five continents, spending about a third of the year overseas, a third touring in Japan and a third resting and preparing new material on Sado Island.

Japan's Naruto Strait is famous for its dramatic whirlpools.
The whirlpools appear in a channel that connects the Seto Inland Sea with the Pacific Ocean, between the islands of Shikoku and Awaji. A Yomiuri Shimbun reporter recently viewed them up close.
While in Shikoku, he also visited an art museum and a temple associated with the island's famous 88-temple pilgrimage.

- Naruto Uzumaki (う ず ま き ナ ル ト) is Hokage of the Leaf Seven, the main character in the manga and anime series Naruto composed by Masashi Kishimoto. In the series, Naruto is a ninja belonging to the Leaf with aspirations to become a village leader, the Hokage. Villagers shunned because the Nine-Tails Naruto, a brutal creature that attacked Konohagakure, is sealed within his body. However, Naruto maintaining the fun and noisy, helped him befriend several other Konoha ninja in the series, as well as ninja from other villages. He is especially close relationship with Sasuke, one of the ninja group 7, and treats him as a brother. In later stages, adapt memory Jiraiya, Fourth Hokage Naruto's father. Naruto appears in all of the films as well as other media-related work such as video games and OVAs.
Several publishers released the manga and anime have expressed acclaim and criticism of Naruto character. Valet he is a main character of the manga and anime stereotypes can be compared with many other protagonists in other shonen manga.

Naruto, part of Tokushima Prefecture, is the northeastern most city on Shikoku Island. The city is known for its swirling whirlpools. You can see them in the Strait of Naruto underneath the Onaruto Bridge which connects Tokushima to Awaji Island.
Naruto is also the starting point of the Shikoku Pilgrimage or Henro, which is a religious pilgrimage where one goes around visiting the 88 holy temples on Shikoku.

The Naruto whirlpools are tidal whirlpools in the Naruto Strait, a channel between Naruto in Tokushima and Awaji Island in Hyōgo, Japan. They are created by the large volumes of water moving between the Seto Inland Sea and the Pacific Ocean between high and low tide, combined with the unique underwater geography of the narrow strait.
Because of the change of tides, the whirlpools occur roughly every six hours and can typically be seen once in the morning and once in the afternoon for an hour or two. The whirlpools vary in size, depending on the strength of the tides. They tend to be larger in summer than in winter, and are largest during spring tides, which appear every two weeks.
Under ideal conditions, whirlpools of up to 20 meters in diameters can be seen. On the other hand, there is not much to see outside of the peak times or on calm days. So it always helps to check the tide schedule before heading out. (English and Chinese time table available on the internet.)
The whirlpools are not dangerous to boats. They are great ways to view from sightseeing cruises which get right up next to and among the whirlpools. Some companies run tours from nearby piers on Shikoku.
The next best views are from “Uzu no Michi”, an enclosed walkway that stretches under the Onaruto Bridge and overlooks the whirlpools. The walkway's observation room is placed 45 meters above the whirlpools below which can be observed through glass windows set in the floor.
Naruto Park, the park surrounding the attractions around the whirlpools, also has a number of walking trails and viewpoints found around it with views of the whirlpools and Onaruto Bridge. There are two good viewpoints. One is the Senjojiki Observatory. Another is Eska Hill, which accessible via a 68 meter long, a toll escalator with a cost of 400yen. It also has restaurants and shops.
Also found in the park is the Onaruto Bridge Museum Eddy, which is devoted to the construction of the Onaruto Bridge, its whirlpools and the strait. The Otsuka Museum of Art, Japan's largest museum stands out toward the park's southern edge.
Access Information
Naruto Park is placed about seven kilometers north of central Naruto City.
One or two buses per hour run between Naruto Station and Naruto Park. The one way ride takes 25 minutes with a cost of 310 yen. Buses stop near the Naruto Kosoku bus stop along the way, where it is possible to transfer to highway buses. Highway buses traveling in the direction of Tokushima (but not in the opposite direction) also stop at Naruto Koen-guchi bus stop in Naruto Park along the expressway.
Most attractions in Naruto Park are within walking distance of each other. Only the Uzushio Most buses between Naruto Station and Naruto Park stop at the sightseeing boat pier along the way, Kakosen sightseeing boat pier is not centrally located, and lies two kilometers away thought.
