Yoga Retreat and the Killing Fields in Phnom Penh, Cambodia (Study Abroad Thailand)
Ana - I've always wanted to do a yoga retreat and the Bohemiaz Resort Yoga Retreat was the perfect arrangement for me. The yoga style was vinyasa flow, taught by two different instructors. It did not have a mandatory schedule so I was able to adventure around Cambodia and see historical sights such as the killing fields. Yoga for a Cause
Did you know that every time you get on the mat at Nataraj yoga studio you are contributing towards yoga lessons for disadvantaged Cambodian children and adolescents? The Nataraj Yoga Studio (including the lessons held at Samata Spa) generates funds for Krama Yoga NGO, Cambodia's only yoga NGO, with 100% of profits from the public classes used for developing Cambodian yoga teaching capacity and enabling new yoga outreach projects for children, teens and young adults.
Krama Yoga NGO works with partners including NGOs, orphanages and rehabilitation centres to provide regular yoga classes to over 300 young people every month. Many of these children and adolescents have been challenged by poverty, abuse, addictions or lack of familial support. Practicing yoga and developing life skills through the practice contributes to building their self-confidence and self-respect, teaches empathy and compassion, and improves their overall well-being.
Krama Yoga is run by our Cambodian team - Vannac, Piseth, Nich, Liya, Dara, Lita, Phary and Kim Ly -- all of whom have changed their lives with yoga and now provide yoga, philosophy and meditation classes for other young Cambodians who otherwise would not have the opportunity. And as a student at Nataraj studio you are part of this growing yoga community! We are always looking for imaginative ways to fundraise or for volunteers who can help our team. If you are interested to be more involved, please contact Vannac or Piseth and let us know your ideas.
Krama Yoga, Cambodia
Krama Yoga is an NGO that trains young Cambodians to become qualified yoga teachers. The yoga students come from underprivileged backgrounds, including orphanages, sexual trafficking and slums. Through this program, unique in Asia, the young teachers return to their communities to share yoga and yoga philosophy with some of Cambodia's most marginalised youth. Krama Yoga also offers yoga to the wider community in Phnom Penh through its not-for-profit studio, Nataraj Yoga: yogacambodia.com

Yoga Vinyasa Flow in the jungle
part of my practice at Christmas at in the Koh Kong Jungle, Cambodia......not a great one....was very stiff from trekking the previous days.
You can hear Janet (the owner of Rainbow Lodge) answering the phone and giving directions to new clients......you can also hear the jungle sounds and a boat passing by on the river.
I highly recommend Rainbow Lodge...we had a great Christmas break there....lovely trekking, swimming, cannoning, loads of food and cold beers.

Our Yoga project in Phnom Penh is growing. This year we were able to take 12 young people from an orphanage to a Yoga retreat together with Westerners in Siem Rep. An incredible experience for both sides. Yoga can bridge gaps in age, language and culture.
