Congress is considering stepping in to save the National D-Day Memorial.
Located in a small community in Virginia, the privately-run memorial commemorates the allied invasion of Nazi-held France during World War Two.
However, the facility is facing financial ruin due in part to the floundering economy and may be forced to close this summer.
Now the state's senators are calling for a study to see whether it can become part of the U.S. Park Service.
It's a potential move the head the memorial has been championing.
SOT William McIntosh, National D-Day memorial
To me and again because I want to believe it and it's the right thing, I'm firmly convinced this ought to be taken in by the Department of the Interior and specifically the National Park Service.
One senator says bringing the memorial into the Park Service will ensure that stories of sacrifice made on D-Day have a permanent place.
This all comes just days after the 65th anniversary of the allied invasion was celebrated in France.

The event was held on the 57th anniversary on the beginning of the end for the Axis powers. Bedford lost more men on that day, proportionally, than any other place. That's why the memorial is in this small Virginia town.
