World Eagle Day 2017
World Bird Sanctuary's Eagle Flight Team, led by Daniel Cone, is the largest team of flying eagles in the United States.
The training of these birds requires patience, gentle kindness, a keen understanding of the bird's behavior and a closely bonded relationship with each individual bird.
Unfortunately, our national symbol's population status is not as solidly re-established as we would like to believe. Our birds of prey as a whole are suffering from a variety of new modern problems such as lead poisoning and wind turbines.
The World Bird Sanctuary Eagle Flight team brings our bald eagles directly in front of admiring crowds who need to be reminded of the importance of these beautiful creatures. Each flight is paired with a message of conservation and environmental protection.
Please join us the March 26th to celebrate the majesty of these eagles and those from around the world and learn more about their plight.
The teathers you see on the birds in this video are there to ensure that the bird does not fly off during training and injure himself, as they must re-train to free fly after each vacation time. They are removed as soon as we are confident that they are ready to fly on their own. The bird does not notice the teathers when attached.

Eagle Angel
LaCrosse Riverside Park demo - - Wabasha - While our facility is open Angel, Harriet, Columbia, Donald and Was'aka spend most of their time in the eagle viewing room, where volunteers answer questions. Since our birds are tethered as opposed to behind glass or caged, visitors get a close up, personal beak-to-nose experience.
Hour-long educational feeding programs are given a number of times each day, providing visitors with another opportunity to learn about our national bird as well as participate in Q & A sessions.
Eagle, wildlife and conservation exhibits permeate our new facility, and several eagle observation decks complete with spotting scopes provide ample opportunity to view countless wild eagles over the adjoining Mississippi River and backwaters, as well as river traffic and countless other species of wildlife.
The interpretive center focuses on the importance of the bald eagle as a national symbol, and its relationship to veterans of the United States of American Armed Forces. The new Center also
relays Native American history and the culture of the region as it relates to the bald eagle. An engaging children's area with kid-proof binoculars provides interest to all ages. In fact the average visit at the National Eagle Center is over 80 minutes!
The new facility is adjacent to Wabasha's historic business district, and visitors from around the globe see and learn about bald eagles and the Mississippi River habitat.

This video took place in Wabasha Mn on March 21,2009. It was sponsored by the National Eagle Center and the World Bird Sacntuary. It was taken in an auditorium in St. Regis Church two blocks from the National Eagle Center. There are several birds brought in from asia africa and australia. Some fly to the amazement of the audience over their heads. The sound quality is not that good because we were high up in the bleachers and there was a lot of echo.

Bald Eagle Feeding By The Mississippi
It was a flippin' cold day so I was shivering like crazy when I shot this.
This eagle can be found in the biggest tree, just south of the National Eagle Center in Wabasha, Minnesota.
It is quite used to having spectators so you have ample opportunity to stand around and wait for it to put on a show by swooping out over the river, grabbing a fish and bringing it back to eat. All right in front of your eyes.
Nature is so amazing.
