The open-air Village Museum has re-created the traditional homes of local and other Tanzanian tribes and hosts tribal dancing. It’s part of the National Museum, which offers Tanzanian history exhibits, including the fossils of human ancestors found by anthropologist Louis Leakey.

Tanganyika (1961)
M/S of a cruise liner coming towards a harbour. Various shots of yachts sailing on the water of the harbour of Dar-es-Salaam at Tanzania (or Tanganyika) in Africa; men in shorts and girls in bikinis are seen on one of the yachts.
M/S on the wharf showing porters carrying sacks and boxes. Various shots in the marketplace showing stalls of fruit, and a man cutting tobacco into little parcels. C/U of a pile of mangoes (?). M/Ss of a sisal plantation; hundreds of spiky-leaved plants beside the sea. A man is seen cutting the leaves off a plant; women arrange sisal fibres over hundreds of lines in a field. M/S and C/Us of two Masai warriors in traditional costume; beaded necklaces and earrings.
L/S of a small plane (East African Airways) landing on a red earthy runway in the highlands. Nice M/S of several western tourists coming out of the plane. They climb in the back of a Land Rover with open sides, and are driven to a national park or game reserve. In a lake there we see some hippos bathing in the water (only eyes and ears seen!) while the tourists take photos and film with cine cameras. Another Land Rover is seen driving over a plain; tourists look through the open top to see a lion standing over it's kill (L/S). M/Ss of a lioness; a hyena.
M/S of the clock tower at Arusha; commentator says the tower is precisely halfway between Cairo and the Cape of Good Hope. Other buildings in the town look quite modern. M/Ss of the market place; Africans carrying baskets on their heads; people examining fabrics; traders sitting on the ground with mats displaying their produce before them.
M/S of a swimming pool (probably on the slopes of Mount Meru) as a girl dives in; some middle-aged westerners sit at a table with a beer and watch. M/S of a young couple in dressing gowns eating breakfast on their hotel balcony; the man looks through binoculars at the view; L/S of the countryside on the lower slopes of the mountains; lots of trees, then thinning out towards the coast (I think - it's a bit misty).
M/Ss of a group of tourists setting out on a walk in shorts and walking boots; they walk past some exotic blossoms on a tree and off over a plain; some carry backpacks. M/S of two men stopping to take in the view; they look rather 'Englishman abroad' in their pullovers and woolly hats; one wears a cravat. L/S of Mount Kilimanjaro rising majestically into the clouds. Various shots of the snow covered mountains from the air, including brief M/S from behind the driver of our plane. Amazing shot of Kilimajaro's ice-crater in the sunshine.
Cuts exist - see separate record.

OLDUVAI - The Cradle of Humankind ENG
Few places on the planet can offer us a clear and complete glimpse of our evolutionary history. Many of them are found in East Africa, and Olduvai Gorge in Tanzania is certainly one of these. The documentary, produced by the School of Paleoanthropology of the University of Perugia, is a tribute to this wonderful place.

Zanzibar is a Tanzanian archipelago off the coast of East Africa. On its main island, Unguja, familiarly called Zanzibar, is Stone Town, a historic trade center with Swahili and Islamic influences. Its winding lanes present minarets, carved doorways and 19th-century landmarks such as the House of Wonders, a former sultan’s palace. The northern villages Nungwi and Kendwa have wide beaches lined with hotels.
Uhuru Monument- Dar es Salaam, Tanzania Landmark & Historical National Museums
Uhuru Monument- Dar es Salaam, Tanzania Landmark & Historical National Museums Pride is the strong sensation that comes when standing at the feet of the Uhuru Gardens 20th anniversary monument. It’s probably the feeling that comes with associating yourself with greatness and owning it, because in about another 50 years, in a technologically advanced Kenya, such a structure shall be revered and held in high respect with the Pyramids.Located along Lang’ata Road, Uhuru Gardens is a national monument and Kenya’s largest memorial park. It is positioned just 15 minutes from the CBD and the proximity to the Nairobi National Park and various high level restaurants and clubs marks it as a site worth visiting. The gardens were officially declared a National Monument in 1966 as it was Kenya’s birthplace. This is where the first Kenyan flag was raised and thus marking the very first year of independence on 12th December 1963. The corner of the park holds a Mugumo tree that was symbolically planted by Kenya’s First President Jomo Kenyatta on the spot where the Union Jack (British Flag) was brought down and Kenya’s national flag was first hoisted. The park shares values in sustainable design as the site harbored a diversity of native flora and fauna of savanna woodland which have been protected and retained within. The Nairobi National Park has now been physically separated from Uhuru Gardens with electrified fencing and the introduction of the Northern By-pass which aids in the preservation of wildlife in the National Park.In addition to the historical significance, Uhuru Gardens continues to attract various events as a recreational park. It is popular as a rest area for families and friends and a hot spot for school field trips. Due to its proximity to the CBD and Lang’ata residential zones, as well as occupying large open grounds landscaped with planters, concrete seats and public toilets, it has gained popularity as an events venue for corporate launches, concerts, weddings and appears in many films and music videos. It could be termed a success in terms of urban planning and continues to be relevant in contemporary times.
