Sao Tome and Principe: Watch moment ship sinks in 'suspicious circumstances'

A rescue operation run by international conservation group Sea Shepherd was underway inside the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of Sao Tome in the Gulf of Guinea, Monday, when a vessel named 'Thunder' sank under what Sea Shepherd members have labelled 'suspicious circumstances,' after it was noted that all hatches on the ship had been left open after the distress signal was sent, perhaps explaining why it sank so quickly.

Belezas naturais como não encontrei em muitos sítios.
Praias limpas e água quentinha! (30 graus é a temperatura da água na praia..).
Aconselho a todos que queiram visitar este pequeno mas bonito país, um dos poucos onde aínda se fala o Português.
O País aínda é muito pobre e precisa de Turismo para que entrem mais divisas no país e este se possa desenvolver.
Tem bons hoteis, boa comida e muito, mesmo muito para visitar!

This African dance - in front of a large church in Sao Tome - depicts the conflicts of plantation life in Sao Tome. Surprisingly, a Fidel Castro look-alike has made his way into this dance to match wits with an evil sorceress. Please note the small child who is frightened in the video.

São Tomé is the capital city of the country of São Tomé and Príncipe - islands located in the Gulf of Guinea - and is that nation's largest town. Its name is Portuguese for Saint Thomas.

No extremo sul da Ilha de São Tomé, em STP, fica o município de Porto Alegre e lá, na Praia Inhame, em frente ao Ilhéu das Rolas, encontra-se um resort ecológico num panorama que deslumbra qualquer visitante. Em plena latitude 0, sobre a linha do Equador (que fica no ilhéu citado), o resort é uma verdadeira ilha da fantasia. A estrada para lá chegar é, por vezes, complicada, mas todo o percurso, de cerca de 80 km, da cidade de São Tomé até ao resort é tão bonito, tão verde, tão tranquilo, que compensa qualquer coisa.

Philatelist designs unique stamp of lord Venkateswara in Kochi

Kochi, Jan 08 (ANI): A philatelist in Kerala has designed a unique stamp of Hindu god Venkateswara, which has been approved by Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe, a Portuguese speaking Central African Country, to be released in India. A special cover, with work of gold on it, has also been made for the limited-edition stamp. Alok K. Goyal, the stamp collector, claimed this was the only stamp with emerald colour crystal on it and said he tried to show the stamp was of a ‘rich god’. He further added that 1500 stamps were issued by Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe out of which 1000 stamps were meant for Indian market. Goyal has designed different kinds of stamps including Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Mary and et al. He said his endeavour was to depict the culture of India through stamps. Goyal will showcase the stamps at the 13th Kerala state level philatelic exhibition, Kerapex-2016 in Thrissur city commencing from Thursday till Saturday.

1. The islands of Antigua and Barbuda have been inhabited for almost 5,000 years! The island of Antigua was explored by Christopher Columbus in 1493 and named for the Church of Santa Maria de la Antigua in Seville. Antigua was colonized by Britain in 1632; Barbuda was first colonized in 1678. After 349 years as a British colony, Antigua and Barbuda gained independence in 1981.

2. Cricket- This is a national pass time on the island, and the smallest child is involved in the sport. Games are played everywhere on the island. Visit the Antigua Barbuda Museum to see one of the greatest cricketers ever to play the game. The game of Cricket in Antigua is more of a religion than a mere sport. A day of cricket is a brilliant way to view Antigua culture first hand – the excitement and energy that surround the game is fantastic fun and the whole island is literally bouncing when cricket is in town.

3. There are no permanent rivers on any of the islands, and Antigua is the only island to have 3 streams! Antigua and Saudi Arabia share the same feature that neither has any permanent rivers. Both countries rely heavily on desalination for their fresh water supplies.

4. Devil’s Bridge. Situated at Indian Town, this is a natural bridge at the head of Indian Creek with blow-holes and spouting surf. Devil's Bridge got its name because of the large number of slaves that worked the nearby estates had thrown themselves into the sea from the bridge. It was said that the Devil would call them to cast themselves into the sea. The draw to the bridge is believed to be strong in order for so many suicides to have occurred.

5. The highest point of Antigua was known as the Boggy Peak until 4 August 2009, when it was renamed after Barack Obama who has a birthday on this day.

6. Those who stroll Barbuda’s 17 Mile Beach, will probably never see a more ravishing stretch of sand, nor another footprint. Lapped by pale aqua seas, this stunning stretch of pink-tinged sand separates the Barbuda lagoon from the Caribbean sea, and pleases even the most hardened beach connoisseurs.

7. The Carnival is Antigua’s big annual festival which is held from the end of July and culminates in a parade on the first Tuesday in the month of August. Most of the activities take place in the capital city, St John’s. The island’s carnival is always over the long Whit weekend and is five days full of pageantry, dance, calypso and fun.
