The National Historical Museum in Sofia is Bulgaria's largest museum. It was founded on 5 May 1973. A new representative exhibition was opened in the building of the Court of Justice on 2 March 1984, to commemorate the 13th centenary of the Bulgarian state.

The National Military History Museum (Национален военноисторически музей, Natsionalen voennoistoricheski muzey) is a museum dedicated to military history in Sofia, Bulgaria. A structure of the Ministry of Defence, it has existed under various names and subordinate to various institutions since 1 August 1914 (in practice since 4 July 1916). It disposes of 5,000 m² of indoor and 40,000 m² outdoor (of which 500 m² covered) exhibition area, a library and a computer centre.
The NMMH was established in 1916, two years after a military-historical commission, consisting of an archive, exhibition and library, was founded. By that time it was one of only three Bulgarian museums in existence. Its first complete exhibition was only unveiled in 1937. Its current structure and name date from 1968.

Bulgaria: President Kovind visits National Museum of History in Sofia
President Ram Nath Kovind visited the National Museum of History in Sofia, Bulgaria. The National Museum of History was established on May 5, 1973. It is a national treasury of the Republic of Bulgaria and one of the largest historical museums on the Balkan Peninsula. The museum houses over 650,000 cultural monuments and a huge archeological and historical archive. The President is on eight-day three-nation tour to Cyprus, Bulgaria and Czech Republic. President Kovind will visit the Czech Republic from September 6 to 9.

Австрийският параход „Радецки“ е построен през 1851 г. в Будапеща. На 29 май 1876 г. четата на Христо Ботев завладява парахода и го принуждава да спре на българския бряг при с. Козлодуй, откъдето се насочва към Врачанския Балкан, за да се бие за свободата на България.
През 1966 г. е построено точно копие на легендарния параход със средства, събрани от 1 200 000 български деца. От 1982 г. е със статут на национален музей. Намира се на вечен пристан в гр. Козлодуй и от 16 април 2004 г. е филиал на Националния исторически музей в София.
Музеят „Параход „Радецки“ е изцяло свързан с живота и делото на Христо Ботев, с трагичната му гибел, както и на неговата чета. С годините се е превърнал в национална светиня. В него съществува експозиция, в която могат да се видят ценни реликви като знамето на Ботевата чета, униформи на Ботеви четници, последните писма, писани от воеводата Христо Ботев от борда на парахода и др. Музеят „Параход „Радецки“ е единственият пътуващ параход музей на Балканския полуостров и в България. Той осъществява пътувания при организирани групи ежегодно от месец април до края на месец октомври

The Austrian steamship Radetzki was built in Hungary in 1851. On May 29, 1876, the Bulgarian revolutionaries from Hristo Botev’s detachment overpowered the ship and forced it to change its course to the Bulgarian port of Kozloduy. From there, the detachment reached the mountains near Vratza in an attempt to fight for the liberation of Bulgaria.
In 1966, the legendary steamship was reconstructed based on the original design and technical data. The money was collected in a fundraising initiative of 1,200,000 Bulgarian students.
The ship is a National Museum since 1982. It is a subsidiary of the National Museum of History in Sofia from April 16, 2004.
The Steamship Radetzky Museum will be forever linked to the life and freedom ideals of Hristo Botev, a prominent Bulgarian poet and revolutionary, and the perils they faced. Now the ship is a Bulgarian National relic.
The museum ship presents an exhibition with valuable relics –the flag of Botev’s detachment, uniforms of the rebels, the last letters written by Hristo Botev on board the ship, etc.
The Steamship Radetzki is the only traveling museum ship in Bulgaria and on the Balkan Peninsula. It makes organized tourist group trips from April to the end of October.

Sofia (Bulgaria), Sep 06 (ANI): President Ram Nath Kovind visited National Museum of History (NMH) in Bulgaria’s Sofia. He was accompanied by First Lady Savita Kovind. The National Museum of History was established on May 5, 1973. It is a national treasury of the Republic of Bulgaria, a reliquary store on a world scale and one of the largest historical museums on the Balkan Peninsula. The museum houses over 650,000 cultural monuments and a huge archeological and historical archive. The President is on a eight-day three-nation tour to Cyprus, Bulgaria and Czech Republic. On the last leg of the journey, President Kovind will visit the Czech Republic from September 6 to 9, where he will hold discussion on issues of mutual concern with Czech President Milos Zeman.
