Tour The Wonderful Museum of National Prehistory Taitung, Taiwan
The Museum of National Prehistory is located in Taitung City and is a fabulous, do not miss, museum. Marine Steve and I have been known to speed through museums in less than 10 minutes but this was a keeper. There are two floors filled with information that even our pea-brains (which according to the museum have gotten smaller over the last 50,000 years) could find interesting.
There was a prehistory gallery, Taiwan in the Iron Age, how prehistory people lived, the Beinan culture, stone working, megaliths, human evolution. And all 14 aboriginal tribes along with audio visual, videos, movies. The Ring of Fire. Geology.
How about: the brain of a newborn human and newborn chimpanzee are the same size but a child's brain at age 5 is three times the size of a chimpanzee!
All exhibits are in Chinese and English, audio guides are available but completely unnecessary and there is a high class gift shop. What more could a visitor ask?

走在寬敞的走廊上，牆上的拼貼圖案和一旁仿造達悟族拼板舟外觀設計的座椅都充滿南洋原民的風格，國立臺灣史前文化博物館內就是以史前文化的生活原貌為主題，主要展館空間，從冰河時期的動物型態模型開始，隨著腳步的邁進，身旁的場景也隨著空間進入不同時空的世界，早期先民的生活型態，到後來發展出的各種工藝、編織及生活器具等模型，在還沒有文字記錄生活的時代，讓那段歷史活躍在你的眼前。

史前竹筏IRA2號 拚明年從台灣航向日本 2018-06-13 IPCF-TITV 原文會 原視新聞
台灣史前館與日本國立科博館共同合作的「3萬年前的航海-跨越黑潮」實驗計畫，經過長達兩年的試驗，史前竹筏「IRA2號」已初步達成計畫目標。
主辦單位表示，為了證實3萬年前史前人類有橫渡黑潮的能力，5位划手不能倚賴任何電子用品，只能根據日出以及星象方位，在茫茫大海中，尋找正確的航行方向，只不過，這次航行使用的竹筏雖然已明顯變小，仍無法有效提升航行速度。
5位划手模擬史前人類橫渡太平洋，實驗計畫團隊已累積許多寶貴經驗，同時獲得珍貴的航行數據。
兩國將針對這些資料進行分析與研究，目標鎖定2019年完成台東長濱、日本與那國島間的跨國航海，挑戰200公里海上航行計畫，驗證3萬年前日本的史前人類，是從台灣跨海遷移過去的真實性。

Taiwan's National Museum of Prehistory and the National Museum of Nature and Science in Tokyo teamed up on a program attempting to recreate the journey along the Kuroshio Current from Kakacawan in Taitung to Yonaguni in the Okinawa prefecture of Japan undertaken by Paleolithic peoples 30,000 years ago in a traditional canoe and without any modern electrical equipment.

The Hla''alua and Kanakanavu indigenous tribes are hosting an exhibition at a museum in Taitung. The event brings greater attention to the two latest tribes to gain official recognition. Wearing hats adorned with feathers and striped pants, these individuals are members of Taiwan’s 15th official indigenous tribe, Hla’alua.Elders hold bunches of Miscanthus grass and lead everyone in a prayer. Next they draw lots which reveal which spirit will serve as each individual’s protector.The Kanakanavu are Taiwan’s 16th official indigenous tribe. Both of these new tribes were previously members of the southern Tsou tribe. They were officially recognized by the government at the end of June.Kanakanavu ElderJustice has finally been served, and we can reclaim our own name, Kanakanavu.Hla’alua Tribe MemberNow we can officially use our name. It’s like we can flourish and stand up on our own.For greater recognition, the tribes were invited to host an exhibition at the National Museum of Prehistory in Taitung. Interesting Sights Along Taiwan's East Coast
Driving from south Taiwan to Taitung on the East Coast involved crossing through mountain ranges on some wonderful highways and past different aboriginal villages. Many of the tribes decorate entrance to their villages which always meant a stop to photograph the decorations.
It was not the nicest of days thanks to a cold front over Japan but we made the most of it. There were fishing villages, black sand beaches and even the local 7-11 Stores along the road are a marvel; immaculately clean, spotless toilets, a variety of hot and cold foods, pleasant and helpful staff. Next stop was the Museum of National Prehistory...

[建築紀實] 國立臺灣史前文化博物館 南科考古館
位於南部科學工業園區的《國立臺灣史前文化博物館 南科考古館》，是臺灣南部首座考古專業機構。南科園區於1995年開發初期，即在境內發現多種文化、多個時期的遺址，涵蓋的時間範圍長達4500年。為保留珍貴的歷史文物，遂於管理局旁設立本館，並定位為國家級的典藏中心及考古教育場域。博物館為四層樓的灰色建築，外觀以石材、金屬板和玻璃等材料包覆。量體由兩組幾何軸線組成，分別呼應古代地理和都市紋理，代表過去及現代的秩序。室內外規劃了不同形式的管狀空間，亦為主要的參觀路徑。遊客經由入口、大廳來到名為「時空廊道」的中央垂直動線。拾級而上，在頂端可以眺望飛奔而去的高鐵列車，見證當代的工程技術。進入展示廳內，再以由上而下的方式逐層探索，藉由身體的移動類比考古挖掘的過程。
