Capital of Tajikistan
Dushanbe, on the Varzob River, is the capital of Tajikistan. On the east bank of the river is Rudaki Park, named for the classical poet. A statue of him stands under an ornate mosaic arch.
Nearby is a massive Tajik flag, flying from a towering flagpole. The ancient Tajik warrior Ismoili Somoni is commemorated with a statue and gilded arch. Archaeological finds are displayed at the National Museum of Tajikistan

Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, is a wonderful quirky city. It is possible to see all the main attractions in 24 hours, but if you have longer this is a nice capital city to relax in. Join us on a tour of Dushanbe. Here are the details of some of the places we mention:
1 National museum - Ismoili Somoni Avenue
2 Park and big flag - South of the big museum
3 Presidents palace - sometimes called The White House. Located south of the museum and West of Rudakai park. Remember you can't take tours of this one.
4 Coffee shop - Ark coffee shop - Located on Shohtemur street just east of the junction of Rudakai avenue.
5 Waterpark - Delfin Aqua park - around 3km west of the city centre

In this brief video you can find seven little known facts about Tajikistan.

1. The total land area of Tajikistan is 143,100 square kilometres. That’s slightly larger than England. Tajikistan’s population was 8.2 million in 2013. That’s around the same population as London!
2. In the small Asian nation of Tajikistan, the unibrow is considered a highly attractive feature. If you are unfortunately born without a unibrow, you can paint it on daily to become more attractive. For women, it is associated with virginity and purity and, in men, virility. If there is no unibrow present, or if it is weak, it is commonplace for women to use a kohl liner or a modern kajal pen to simulate a unibrow.
3. Country’s dictator, Emomali Rahmon, was filmed singing drunk at his son’s wedding in 2013. The clip was posted on YouTube. In response, he banned YouTube from the country for 3 weeks. Rahmon is now serving his fourth term as president, but he doesn’t seem to have had enough. Since 1994 he survived an assassination attempt, 2 attempted coups and a civil war that claimed the lives of some 100,000 people.
4. The Tajiks, whose language is nearly identical with Persian, were part of the ancient Persian Empire that was ruled by Darius I and later conquered by Alexander the Great (333 BC).In the 7th and 8th centuries, Arabs conquered the region and brought Islam. The Tajiks were successively ruled by Uzbeks and then Afghans until claimed by Russia in the 1860s. In 1924, Tajikistan was consolidated into a newly formed Tajik Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic.
5. Dushanbe is the capital of Tajikistan and it has a population of 778,500. If you pay a visit, the main sights are the Tajikistan National Museum, Dushanbe Zoo and the Dushanbe Flagpole (it’s the second tallest freestanding flagpole in the world at 165m). Dushanbe means Monday in Tajik language.
6. One of the world's highest mountain ranges Pamir and Altai cross Tajikistan. Hundreds of canyons split the mountains and on the bottom of them there are flowing rivers, which merge into river valleys, where the majority of the population lives. Almost half of the Central Asian waters flow from the mountains of Tajikistan.
7. The civil war in Tajikistan started in 1992 and continued till 1997. The protesters were against the presidential elections and demanded fair representation in the country. In the month of June 26, 1997, the two sides came to a treaty and a peace accordance was signed, thus ceasing the war.

From Yamg to Langar - Tajikistan 4K Travel Channel
Once again we drive a short leg in the Wakhan Valley to Langar before we leave the valley and drive up to the Pamir Plateau. Langar lies at the mouth of the Wakhan river in the Pandj river. Here, the Wakhan Valley leads into the Wakhan Corridor, which is part of the Afghan national territory.
We stop first on the bank of the Pandj river to look at the panorama. Next to the road is a tomb whose roof is decorated with some horns from Marco Polo sheep. Two goats graze in the inner courtyard of the monument. One is extremely interested in what I do, while I film them.
Some bones, apparently from goats, lie around on the shore. It is not unlikely, as there are nearby nature reserves, where even snow leopards can be found.
Halfway from Yamg to Langar, we meet again Charlie again, who untiringly always covers new distances with his bike.
In our accommodation, we have again twin rooms, a normal toilet, and a shower. However, the landlord shows us the hidden lever that you have to press to get warm water.
There is a small store on the first floor in which one also serves us the meal.
Afterwards, we sit on the terrace upstairs and see that we are obviously not the only tourists on this day in Langar.
Suddenly Charlie also appears in search of a lodging. But he still finds time to tell us about his charity campaigns.He collects money for sick children with the organizations Meningitis Now and Macmillan Cancer Support. We chat a bit about his everyday life on the bike, which determines his daily routine for months. He does not have a long time and leaves us soon.

Noch einmal haben wir eine kurze Etappe im Wakhan Valley bis Langar, bevor wir das Tal verlassen und auf das Pamir Hochplateau hinauffahren. Langar liegt an der Mündung des Wakhan in den Pandsch. Hier führt das Tal des Wakhan in den Wakhan Korridor, der zum Afghanischen Staatsgebiet gehört.
Wir stoppen erst einmal am Ufer des Pandsch, um uns das Panorama anzusehen. Neben der Straße ist ein Grabmal zu sehen, dessen Dach mit einer Reihe von Hörnern von Marco Polo Schafen verziert ist. Im Innenhof des Grabmals grasen zwei Ziegen. Eine ist extrem interessiert, was ich mache, als ich sie filme.
Am Ufer liegen auch einige Knochen, offensichtlich von Ziegen herum. Es sieht so aus, als ob sie von einem Raubtier gerissen worden wären. Es ist nicht ganz unwahrscheinlich, da es in der Nähe Naturschutzgebiete gibt, in denen sogar Schneeleoparden vorkommen.
Auf halber Strecke von Yamg nach Langar begegnen wir wieder Charlie, der unermüdlich mit seinem Rad immer neue Strecken zurücklegt.
In unserem Quartier haben wir wieder Zweibettzimmer, eine normale Toilette und eine Dusche. Der Hausherr zeigt uns allerdings den versteckten Hebel, den man betätigen muss um warmes Wasser zu bekommen.
Im Erdgeschoss gibt es einen kleinen Laden, in dem man uns auch das Essen serviert.
Danach sitzen wir im ersten Stock auf der Terrasse und sehen, dass wir offensichtlich nicht die einzigen Touristen an diesem Tag in Langar sind.
Plötzlich erscheint auch Charlie auf der Suche nach einem Quartier. Er findet aber noch kurz Zeit uns von seinen Charity-Aktionen. Er sammelt Geld für kranke Kinder mit den Organisationen Meningitis Now und Macmillan Cancer Support zu erzählen. Wir plaudern noch ein wenig über seinem Alltag auf dem Fahrrad, der seit Monaten seinen Tagesablauf bestimmt. Er hat aber nicht lange Zeit und verlässt uns bald wieder.

Meet Bibisharifa from Tajikistan
18-year-old Bibisharifa Talbizoda lives in Navobod, a village located in the Jaloliddini Balhi district in Tajikistan. After graduating from secondary school, she has high hopes of becoming a professional dressmaker and opening her own business.
Bibisharifa discovered a talent for sewing during her school days, when she used to help her mother sew dresses after she finished her homework. However, Bibisharifa didn't just adopt a hobby. She mastered it. Her passion for dressmaking and determination to improve her skills have made her dresses very popular in the neighboring villages.
