National Palace of Culture, Sofia
The National Palace of Culture (Bulgarian: Национален дворец на културата, Natsionalen dvorets na kulturata; abbreviated as НДК, NDK), located in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, is the largest multifunctional congress, conference, convention and exhibition centre in Southeastern Europe. It was opened in 1981.
In July 2005, the National Palace of Culture was proclaimed the best congress centre in the world for the year by the International Organization of Congress Centres.
The congress centre has a wide variety of technical equipment at its disposal in order to host different types of events, such as concerts, conferences, exhibitions and shows. It has an area of 123,000 m² on eight floors and three underground levels. The National Palace of Culture has 13 halls and 15,000 m² of exhibition area, a trade centre and a car park. Sofia Film Fest, an annual film festival held in the capital of Bulgaria, Sofia takes place in NDK.
Curiously, more than 10,000 tons of steel were used for the construction of the NDK - 3,000 more than the Eiffel Tower.

Sofia, Bulgaria - Travel Around The World | Top best places to visit in Sofia
Top best places to visit in Sofia, Bulgaria
Sofia is the capital and largest city of Bulgaria, lies close to mountains and three different seas.
Sofia has been an area of human habitation since at least 7000 BC. For the longest time the city was known as The Serdica.
In the center of the city is the Statue of St Sofia, a monumental sculpture and a symbol of the city.
In the vicinity is an ensemble of three government edifices, a prime example of Socialist Classicism architecture, the Largo.
Amid one of these buildings is located the Church of St George, a red brick rotunda that is considered the oldest building in Sofia.
Behind the National Bank and the Largo is the former royal palace, today the National Art Gallery.
Opposite the gallery, in the City Gardens, is the National Theatre, the oldest and most authoritative theater in the country.
A little further is the Military Club, an important social center of the capital.
On the same street is the monument of culture for its historic significance, the National Assembly.
Near the Statue of St Sofia begins also the pedestrian zone and the main commercial street, the Vitosha.
Sofia’s most spectacular modern landmark is the largest multifunctional conference and exhibition center in south-eastern Europe, the National Palace of Culture.
But the most prominent tourist attraction is one of the largest Eastern Orthodox churches worldwide, the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.
Sofia has many other sacred temples worth a visit, such as:
The Seven Saints Church, named after Cyril and Methodist and their five disciples.
The Cathedral of St Joseph, the largest Roman Catholic church in Bulgaria.
The Holy Sunday Church, a medieval place of worship that has been destructed and reconstructed many times through the ages.
The Banya Bashi Mosque, built over natural thermal spas is the only functioning mosque in Sofia.
Vis-a-vis is the Central Mineral Baths, nowadays a history museum.
Nearby is the Central Market Hall and behind it is the largest synagogue in Southeastern Europe, the Sofia Synagogue.
Worth seeing is also the University of Sofia, the oldest higher education institution in Bulgaria.
And standing next to it the National Library, that possesses many notable collections of scriptures and old prints.

Bulgaria by Drone - 2019
Sofia - Bulgaria's capital. 1.2 million people and about the same amount of old Soviet monuments. Luckily the ratio of nice restaurants to monuments has been increasing.
National History Museum - In the former residence of the last communist leader - brutalist architecture filled with ancient Thracian treasures.
Plovdiv - Bulgaria's second largest city and and one of the oldest settlements in Europe (6000BC). Be careful when adding a cellar to your house as you'll most likely find Roman or Thracian ruins.
Theater of Philippopolis - Dating from the 1st century AD, it was only discovered in the 1960's when someone was adding a cellar to their house.
Alyosha Monument - one of the many, many monuments to the Soviet army on one of the hills of Plovdiv
Dalbog Dol - A small village about 2 hrs from Sofia
Shipka Pass - Site of a battle in 1877 where 7500 Bulgarian and Russian troops defeated a 40,000 force of Ottomans.
Buzludzha - The site of the first congress of the Bulgarian Communist party. Now a crumbling ruin.
Alexander Nevsky Cathedral - Bulgarian Orthodox and the most iconic structure in Sofia. Occasionally used to portray other countries in shitty action movies.
Music - Kalinka - DJ89 -
