The Genghis Khan Equestrian Statue Ulaanbataar Mongolia
The Genghis Khan Equestrian Statue, part of the Genghis Khan Statue Complex is a 40 metre (131 ft 3 in) tall statue of Genghis Khan on horseback, on the bank of the Tuul River at Tsonjin Boldog (54 km (33.55 mi) east of the Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar), where according to legend, he found a golden whip. The statue is symbolically pointed east towards his birthplace. It is on top of the Genghis Khan Statue Complex, a visitor centre, itself 10 metres (32 ft 10 in) tall, with 36 columns representing the 36 khans from Genghis to Ligdan Khan. It was designed by sculptor D. Erdenebileg and architect J. Enkhjargal and erected in 2008.[2]
Visitors walk to the head of the horse through its chest and neck of the horse, where they can have a panoramic view. The main statue area will be surrounded by 200 Ger,[3] yurt camps, designed and arranged like the pattern of the horse brand marks that were used by the 13th century Mongol tribes. The cost of the complex is reported to be $4.1 million, spent by The Genco Tour Bureau, a Mongolian company.[4]
The attached museum has exhibitions relating to the Bronze Age and Xiongnu archaeological cultures in Mongolia, which show everyday utensils, belt buckles, knives, sacred animals, etc. and a second exhibition on the Great Khan period in the 13 and 14th centuries which has ancient tools, goldsmith subjects and some Nestorian crosses and rosaries. Next to the museum there is a tourist and recreation center, which covers 212 ha (523.86 ac).

Mongolia
Ancient monasteries, the haunting natural beauty of the Gobi Desert, wild horses and intriguing cultures - Mongolia offers extraordinary opportunities to see and experience the living history that is Mongolia.
In our own rapid-fire, always changing world, Mongolia is one of those increasingly rare places that seems to belong to another time; somewhere far off on the edges of what we know. It calls up images of nomadic tribesmen on the wind-swept Mongolian steppes, the Silk Road stations in the Gobi Desert and herds of rugged wild horses. Beneath such simplistic images, however, are a legendary past and people that once dominated the world stage in the 13th and 14th centuries. At its peak, the Mongol Empire was the largest contiguous land empire in human history! It reached across central Asia to encompass lands from Eastern Europe to the Sea of Japan and south into India. By the 17th century, Tibetan Buddhism became the dominant religion in Mongolia, replacing, for the most part, indigenous shaman practices. In the Mongolia of today, modernity is beginning to remodel the country as high-rise buildings crop up next to 18th-century monasteries. By the same token, Mongolians respect their history, traditions and the deep roots put down by their ancestors. Around the country, reconstruction and preservation projects are underway to preserve that history. Priceless artifacts that were so long hidden away for safekeeping are now being returned to monasteries. And it is still possible to set out on a journey that encounters nomadic clans, exquisite landscapes and unique wildlife. This is an exciting time to discover Mongolia, its captivating culture and some of the most wonderfully hospitable people you will ever meet.

13th Century Mongolia meets 21st Century fire fighting
Many Victorian fire fighters deployed this summer to mobile base camps will be accommodated in high-tech yurts, a type of tent more commonly associated with nomadic homes on the steppes of Central Asia.
The Western Shelters are modelled on their ancient ancestor, the yurt, and are octagonal in shape, easily transported and simple to erect.
Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) Project Officer Richard Teychenne talks us through the new Western shelters.
More and more Koreans take interest in Mongolian culture
Korea and Mongolia's ties go way back in history to the mid 13th century.
Interactions between the two in those times influenced the traditions and social customs held in both countries to this day,... creating a strong affinity between them.
With this age-old bond, more and more Koreans are looking up their neighbors way up in the north,... and President Park Geun-hye's official state trip to Mongolia is expected to accelerate these activities.
Traces of Mongolia in Korea: Our News Feature tonight with Oh Soo-young.
At an academy in eastern Seoul,... students of various ages and backgrounds are learning how to speak Mongolian.
I'm learning Mongolian because I fell in love with the country when I went there for volunteer work. Mongolians love to dance. Dancing is one of my favorite hobbies, so I think the country suits me very well.
Not many people in Korea study Mongolian so I thought learning the language would bring a lot of opportunities.
Their reasons for taking up the language vary, from pure fascination with the culture to potential business opportunities,.. but regardless of their motives,... they say they're looking forward to closer relations with their northern neighbors.
Koreans and Mongolians share the similar genes. Also, in terms of language, history and culture, Mongolians are Korea's closest cousins. The Korean and Mongolian language share the same syntax, so Mongolian is really the easiest language for Koreans to learn and vice versa. The two cultures also share the same rites of passage, ways of living, social taboos, a tradition of giving children pocket money on holidays and even wrestling techniques.
These strong similarities can be traced back to the Middle Ages, when Korea became a vassal state of the Mongolia-led Yuan Dynasty in China.
Relations stalled with the collapse of the Yuan Dynasty in the mid-14th century. But when Mongolia gained independence from the Soviet Union, Korea became the first Asian country to form diplomatic ties.
To promote further exchange between the two cultures today,... two Korean cities have formed sister city relations with the Mongolian capital of Ulaanbataar.
Just an hour away from Seoul, in Namyangju City,... a Mongolian town offers an all-round cultural experience. With historical exhibitions, traditional handicraft and performances, visitors can learn more about the Mongolian heritage.
Ancient artifacts and paintings are displayed in the museum... and the traditional tents called ger... reflect the nomadic ways of living passed down for generations.
Looking at the artifacts made me realize how closely related we are to the Mongolians and the Chinese. I felt a huge connection.
Khoomei
Mongolian throat-singing that imitates sounds of nature and pays tribute to ancestors
Inscribed as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2010
There's also a regular performance featuring traditional Mongolian throat-singing,... a Unesco-listed intangible cultural asset,... accompanied by traditional instruments and dancing.
I think the morin khuur is the most unique Mongolian instrument in our show. The strings are made from horsetail. It produces good sounds, sounds that stir up emotion.
As I dance, I want Korean audiences to feel like they're actually in Mongolia. I give it my all. When they clap, I'm energized by the sense that they're genuinely taking in our culture.
Another daily performance with horses wows the crowd,... taking spectators beyond the Korean meadows to the vast steppes of Mongolia.
More and more Koreans are taking an interest in their neighbors up north, finding ways to explore the similarities and differences in their two cultures... and deepening an age-old connection.
