LONDON, what to see in the NATIONAL GALLERY, the most famous portraits ????????️
SUBSCRIBE: - Let's visit the beautiful city of London in England and let's go to The National Portrait Gallery (NPG) which is an art gallery in London housing a collection of portraits of historically important and famous British people. It was the first portrait gallery in the world when it opened in 1856. The gallery moved in 1896 to its current site at St Martin's Place, off Trafalgar Square, and adjoining the National Gallery.
London, the capital of England and the United Kingdom, is a 21st-century city with history stretching back to Roman times. At its centre stand the imposing Houses of Parliament, the iconic ‘Big Ben’ clock tower and Westminster Abbey, site of British monarch coronations. Across the Thames River, the London Eye observation wheel provides panoramic views of the South Bank cultural complex, and the entire city.

National Portrait Gallery Restaurant and Bar - fantastic views of London
We went here for the view - across the rooftops of London from the Shard to the London Eye, Trafalgar Square, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament absolutely wonderful !
We also had Sunday Lunch - the good news was that the food was excellent; wonderful smoked mackerel, roast rib of beef, and dessert. The bad news, it cost 97GBP !
Never mind, it was a great experience and you can make savings another day by buying a 3GBP sandwich in a supermarket !
Enjoy London !

London's National Portrait gallery unveils a photo collection on 19th century black British life
London's National Portrait gallery has recently unveiled a rare photo collection exploring 19th century black British life.
Launched in May, the Black Chronicles exhibition is shedding light on the forgotten history of Africans who found themselves in Britain during the Victorian period and address their absence in contemporary history books.
The photographs reveal the first African, Caribbean and Asian people ever photographed in Britain and were retrieved from the archives of the London ster…

Modern portraits at the National Portrait Gallery on The Art Channel
Subscribe: The Art Channel visits the National Portrait Gallery in London to see how artists making Modern portraits are adapting this historic medium to reflect life today. The film begins by examining a Tudor portrait of Elizabeth I and establishes it as a comparison with a photographic self-portrait by Gilbert and George, a painting of Margaret Thatcher by Paul Brason and a photograph of Germaine Greer by Polly Borland. We finish by exploring a portrait bordering on abstraction by the painter Howard Hodgkin.

A Visit to the National Portrait Gallery London by Plodcasts.com
This is a video of one of the late evening events at the London Portrait Gallery in London.
On certain nights throughout the year you can visit the gallery after hours and enjoy the portraits and sculptures in a quieter atmosphere the laid back nature of which is added to by the quiet playing of some classical and traditional music.
You can both go and enjoy the music or, as I did, have a walk around the gallery with the pleasant sound of ambient music in the background.
This is all free I might add, and I have to confess I wasn’t aware of such evenings myself. I just happened to be nearby trying to fill some time before a theatre show when I noticed the gallery was still open. I have visited the portrait gallery on a number of occasions but this was by far my most enjoyable visit and it is something I will look out for in future and plan my time accordingly.
The video footage I took was very much unplanned and I hope you enjoy the video and appreciate some of the lovely art on display as well as the sculptures.
You can find the calendar of these events at the official website below.
You can also find more information about London on our website and information on the tours you can download of London’s famous sights and some of the hidden parts of London nearby, at our website

Grab your sketchbook and let's go out!
For this month's Let's Go Out, Ed and I visited the National Portrait Gallery in London. What I love most about this gallery is no matter what type of portrait you like, there's room for every taste: photographs, painting, modern, classic art, realism or abstract. The entrance is free (YAY!) and it's the perfect date for a autumn-y cold day.
