Very good museum especially kids will enjoy a lot.The museum was opened on 27 December 2014 in order to commemorate the 150th anniversary of railway service in SriLanka.
This is a good place for travelers and tourists.
Entry ticket price is only fifty rupees.
There are two good explainers.just 15 Km from Kandy.

Sri Lankan Railway Museum Tour

Kadugannawa, Sri Lanka houses one of the railway museums of the country. The railways were introduced to Sri Lanka by the British in the 19th century to carry goods between the coastal areas and the central hill country. The museum preserves that heritage for the future generations.

National railway museum is the national railway museum of Sri Lanka, located in Kadugannawa. The railway museum is owned by Sri Lanka Railways.

The museum was opened on 27 December 2014 in order to commemorate the 150th anniversary of railway service in Sri Lanka. Previously, the museum was located in Colombo.[2] The old museum has been opened in May 2009.[3]

The museum has old engines, locomotives, rail cars, trolleys, carriages, machineries, and equipments that used since the beginning of Sri Lanka Railway.[4]

#The museum is open daily from 9.00 AM to 4.00 PM and closed on Poya days. Payment is by cash at counter and ticket fee is LKR 10.00 to child

At the Railway Museum, Kadugannawa, Sri Lanka.

A place by the main highway to Kandy from Colombo via Kegalle. Well worth a visit.
