1. World Games Stadium is Taiwan’s largest stadium and is located in Kaohsiung City.
2. It was completed in 2009 for the World Games but has since changed its name to National Stadium. It took 2 years to build the stadium, with construction starting in 2007.
3. It is a multi-purpose stadium with a capacity of 55,000 spectators and is now mostly used for football matches and concerts.
4. The stadium was designed by Japanese architect and 2013 Pritzker Prize winner Toyo Hiro and it cost $150 million to build.
5. It was the first stadium in the world to provide power using solar power technology and today is among the top 10 solar powered stadiums by number of solar panels.
6. With its 8.844 solar panels that cover the stadium’s roof, the stadium makes use of solar energy to provide its own energy needs and even light up the surrounding neighborhood.
7. The shape of the stadium looks like an open circle with a question mark and has been compared to the shape of a dragon.
8. The solar panels on the roof give the structure a scaly appearance and it is thus no wonder that the locals call the stadium “dragon’s tail.”
9. The roof also collects rainwater and a system of pipes carries the water to underground storage tanks. Here, the rainwater is sterilized and then redistributed for the stadium’s needs.

Kaohsiung, Taiwan - industrial center of southern Taiwan
Kaohsiung City is a special municipality in Taiwan. Located in southern-western Taiwan and facing the Taiwan Strait. It stretches from Mt. Jade to Taiping Island, and second most populous city. Since its start in the 17th century, Kaohsiung has grown from a small trading village, into the political, economic, transportation, manufacturing, refining, shipbuilding, and industrial center of southern Taiwan. It is a global city with sufficiency as categorized by Globalization and World Cities Research Network in 2012.
The Kaohsiung International Airport is the second largest airport in Taiwan. The Port of Kaohsiung is the largest harbor in Taiwan, but not officially part of Kaohsiung City. Kaohsiung was the host city of the World Games 2009, a multi-sport event primarily composed of sports not featured in the Olympic Games. The city is also home to the Republic of China Navy fleet headquarters and academy.
Main landmarks of Kaohsiung city includes the Tuntex Sky Tower, the ferris wheel of the Kaohsiung Dream Mall, the Kaohsiung Arena and the Kaohsiung Harbor. The newly developed city is also known for having a large number of shopping streets, organized night markets and newly developed leisure parks such as the Pier-2 Art Center, E-DA Theme Park or Taroko Park.
Natural attractions of the city includes Shoushan (Monkey mountain), the Love River, Qijin, the bay of Xiziwan, the Dapingding Tropical Botanical Garden and the Yushan National Park at the northeastern tip of the city. The city also features various historical attractions such as the Old City of Zuoying, a historical town built during the early 17th century.

Background:
Located in southern-western Taiwan and facing the Taiwan Strait, it is by area the largest municipality, at 2,951.85 km2 (1,139.72 sq mi), and second most populous (by urban area) with a population of approximately 2.77 million. Since its start in the 17th century, Kaohsiung has grown from a small trading village, into the political, economic, transportation, manufacturing, refining, shipbuilding, and industrial center of southern Taiwan.

=Lotus Lake/Lotus Pond, the lake is surrounded by temples, some of which have been built out onto the lake. Of note are the Dragon-Tiger Pavilion and Spring Autumn Pavilion, as well as Taiwan's largest Confucius temple. During the day the lake is surrounded with stalls selling food, drinks and trinkets.
=The arts center was originally an abandoned warehouse site due to Kaohsiung's shift from industrial city to service city. The warehouses were built in 1973. Due to the persistence of local artists, the area was finally released and remade to be an arts center. On the weekend the rent kites to fly by the hour.

Taiwan High Speed Rail (abbreviated THSR or HSR) / 臺灣高速鐵路 / 台灣高速鐵路 (臺灣高鐵 / 台灣高鐵) Train 129 from Taipei Main Train Station to Zuoying HSR station (near Kaohsiung) only takes 1 1/2 hours for about US$48. THSR is a high-speed rail line that runs approximately 350 km (217 mi), along the west coast of Taiwan, from the capital Taipei to the southern city of Kaohsiung. The line opened for service on January 5, 2007, with trains running at a top speed of 300 km/h (186 mph), currently running from Nangang to Zuoying in as little as 1:45 hours, reaching almost 90% of Taiwan's population. There are a total of 12 stations set up along the Taiwan High Speed Rail line albeit trains like 129 only make a few stops.
Zuoying / 左營 is a metro and railway station in Kaohsiung served by Kaohsiung MRT, Taiwan High Speed Rail and Taiwan Railways, where it is known as Xinzuoying / 新左營 (literally: 'New Zuoying'). The station is served by the fastest HSR express services of the 1 series.
The station is located at the eastern foot of Mt. Panping (also known as Mt. Banping) in Kaohsiung, next to the South East Cement factory buildings. In addition to rail routes, the station is also close to National Highway No. 1, 3, 10 and Provincial Highway No. 1 and 17.
On 15 October 2009, Shin Kong Mitsukoshi won a deal to lease a building at the station and turn it into a shopping complex under a 10-year operate-transfer (OT) contract for NT$505 million (US$15.6 million). The new branch opened at the north-east corner of station on 1 April 2010. In June 2009, a folding bike rental station was set up at the MRT station to facilitate tourism in the city. The station is also equipped with vehicle and motorcycle parking lots.
The TRA and THSR parts are located in the above ground portion of the station, constructed together and opened for revenue service in January 2007 with the commencement of THSR service. As the current terminus of the line, the THSR part of the station has three island platforms serving six tracks. The TRA part of the station has two platforms serving four tracks, with one additional through track.
The KMRT portion of the station is a two-level station located underground, at the northeastern part of the TRA/THSR station building. The station has two exits[16] and opened for revenue service in March 2008. Dedicated exits between the KMRT station area to the TRA platforms allow direct transfer between TRA and KMRT trains. The KMRT part of the station has an island platform serving two tracks of the KMRT Red line.

Kaohsiung, Taiwan - Lotus Pond - Spring and Autumn Pavilions HD (2017)
It was established in 1953, were two Chinese palace-style pavilions. Spring and Autumn Pavilions named from the Spring Pavilion and Autumn Pavilion. Each of these two is four stores and octagonal, green tiles and yellow walls, like an antique pagoda reflected in the water. And they communicate with each other by 9 bend bridge, also called ‘Spring and autumn Royal Pavilion’, set up by commemorated ‘The Martial Saint, Lord Kua’. There is a Guanyin statue which is riding a dragon in the front end of the Spring and Autumn Pavilions. According to local legend, the Goddess of Mercy had rode the dragon appeared in the clouds and instruct followers to build icon as the form of its coming out between the Spring Pavilion and Autumn Pavilion; Therefore, now there is a Guanyin statue which is riding a dragon.
Lianchihtan (Chinese: 蓮池潭; pinyin: Liánchí Tán; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Liân-tî-thâm) is a man-made lake and popular tourist destination on the east side of Zuoying District in Kaohsiung City in southern Taiwan. Opened in 1951, it is famous for the lotus plants on the lake and the numerous temples around the lake, including the Spring and Autumn Pavilions (春秋閣), the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas (龍虎塔), and the Confucian Temple (孔廟).
Lotus Pond was the site for several water sporting events for World Games 2009, including canoe polo, water ski, and dragon boat.
