HaBima Square (also known as The Orchestra Plaza) is a public space in the center of Tel Aviv, Israel, which is home to a number of cultural institutions such as the Habima Theatre, the Fredric R. Mann Auditorium and the Helena Rubinstein Pavilion for Contemporary Art. The square is located at the intersection of Rothschild Boulevard, Hen Boulevard, Dizengoff Street and Ben Zion Boulevard.
The idea to establish a cultural center was originally proposed in the Geddes Plan, the first master plan of Tel Aviv planned by Patrick Geddes in the late 1920s. Geddes envisioned a kind of a modern Acropolis, where the city's main cultural venues would be (the center was originally planned to house city hall as well). In the Geddes plan, this would be the cultural core of Tel Aviv, while Dizengoff Square nearby would be a commercial center of a different character.
The cornerstone of Habima Theater was laid in 1935. The building was planned by architect Oscar Kaufman in the International style and finished in 1945. The square was inaugurated next to the theatre, additional buildings being added only two decades later. Between the 1930s and the 1950s, the area housed an educational farm and urban nursery, with a grove of Sycamore trees. Most of the trees were eventually uprooted (causing public outrage) but two of the trees were integrated into the Ya'akov Garden.
On June 28, 1948, seven weeks after the Israeli Declaration of Independence, Tel Aviv was the temporarily national capital of Israel while Jerusalem was under siege. On this day, the IDF was declared the national army, in the presence of the mayor Israel Rokach and the foreign minister Moshe Sharett at a ceremony that took place in the square. The Helena Rubinstein Pavilion of Contemporary Art, planned by architects Dov Karmi, Ze'ev Rechter, and Ya'akov Rechter, was established in 1952. At the same time, the Fredric R. Mann Auditorium was constructed, but inaugurated in 1957, as the home of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. When the auditorium was planned, an underground parking lot and an urban plaza were planned too, but due to budgetary considerations, only the northern area of the compound was developed as a plaza. Most of the compound area used as a temporary parking lot.
A year after, Habima was declared the national theater of Israel. Thus the importance of the compound as a national culture center was increased. In 1970, the theater was renovated and a wall was built around the southern circular side of the entrance hall.
During July 2011 the square became a major focal point of the 2011 housing protests in Israel, when Daphne Leef pitched her tent there, followed by hundreds more. A more comprehensive renovation by architect Dani Karavan was launched in 2007, encompassing both the Habima Theater and the plaza. While most of the compound had previously served as a parking lot, the goal of the latest renovation was the construction of an underground lot, allowing the compound to serve as a big plaza. On June 7, 2010 the underground Culture Parking Lot was opened with an area of 40,000 m² and 1,000 parking spaces.
In September 2010, the Ya'akov Garden renovation was completed. A ramp that had led to the garden's upper-balcony was demolished and Chen Boulevard was connected to the square. The renovation of Habima was completed In January 2011, with the renovation of the entire compound in April. Habima Square buildings are a part of the White City of Tel Aviv. The buildings are built in the international style, and many buildings around the square which are also designed in the international style are intended for preservation as a part of the heritage site.

What I learned there was how to attract the publics attention, generate and, increase interest, and assimilate information. All this I use as tools to describe, explain and deepen the interest in the sites that we visit. From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become - a Byzantine Church. This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, glide over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water and see the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be inplanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.

Habima Square, the cultural hub of Tel Aviv
A theater, performing arts hall and art museum surround Orchestra Plaza at the intersection of two of Tel Aviv's most happening thoroughfares.
Tel Aviv's Habima Square is not just a popular meeting point in the White City -- it's a gateway to a whole lot of culture.
That's because the square -- also known as Orchestra Plaza -- is surrounded by major institutions such as the Habima National Theatre, the Charles R. Bronfman Auditorium (home of the Israeli Philharmonic) and the Helena Rubinstein Pavilion for Contemporary Art.

The problem is first of all how do you operate a facility, a protected facility, for only half of the patients of the hospital and half of the staff? Who is going to stay above unprotected and who is going to be moved underground to be protected? And then comes the real issue of how do you manage in time of war, and there may be panic, and worries of patients on what's going outside and families on what's going inside.

STORYLINE
Underneath the plaza outside Israel's Habima national theatre in Tel Aviv, the finishing touches have been put to a new gathering place that it's hoped will never host a crowd - the country's most advanced public underground bomb shelter.
The shelter - four storeys underground with space for 2,000 people - is part of Tel Aviv's elaborate civil defence infrastructure.
City officials have been beefing up shelters and emergency services in recent months at a time of rising tensions with Iran and militant groups in the Gaza Strip.
In Tel Aviv's Sourasky Medical Centre, the emergency shelter is fully equipped with oxygen tanks, electricity and water.
Equipment is built into the walls to make it easy to convert to medical use, including setting up an operating room.
The underground hospital, built a year ago, can function for seven days.
Even so, Gabriel Barbash, the Director-General of the Sourasky Medical Centre, was worried that in the future he would face a terrible dilemma.
The problem is first of all how do you operate a facility, a protected facility, for only half of the patients of the hospital and half of the staff? Who is going to stay above unprotected and who is going to be moved underground to be protected?
Barbash said an underground car park could be transformed into an emergency ward, with up to 1,000 beds, in 48 hours.
Recent talk of conflict with Iran has given the safety measures extra relevance.
Israel is under constant threat from hostile groups on its northern and southern frontiers.
Security forces run frequent safety drills, cities are equipped with public air raid shelters, and new apartments must have bombproof rooms.
Israeli leaders have hinted they may mount a strike against Iran's nuclear facilities, even as American military leaders urge Israel to wait for tough economic sanctions to take effect.
Should Israel attack, Iran has promised a punishing counterstrike.

Habima, Israel's National Theatre, was invited to perform The Merchant of Venice at London's Globe Theatre in May 2012. Their participation in the festival was strongly opposed by many actors, playwrights and directors, because Habima performs in Israel's illegal settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. The Palestinian call for boycott, divestment and sanctions, is a movement for achieving human rights and the implementation International Law.
The Israeli Theatre That Fits The Multicultural Nature Of Tel Aviv
Tel Aviv is a very multicultural city. It’s inhabited by people from all over the world, so Hebrew is not the only language spoken in the city. This is why there should be a theatre that hosts plays and performances in English language as well, at least, that’s what Johannah figured.
She started an English theatre in this Israeli city, the English National Theatre of Israel. There’s a lot of community theatre, which has a pretty high standard, but English-language performances aren’t organized on a regular basis, says Johannah. With this theatre she fills this gap. She wants to develop the English National Theatre of Israel to a point where they have a own residency space in Tel Aviv and go on tours.
Johannah is aiming not only at multicultural residents of Tel Aviv, but on people that are visiting Tel Aviv from all over the world as well. While the language is universal, the performances and plays in the theatre all are relevant to the country Israel or are particularly interesting for people in Israel.
Since Johannah and her company are always looking out for suggestions for plays and writers for projects, she’s inviting everybody with a great idea to join, wherever you’re from!

Norwegian National Theatre boycott Zionist Israel
Norwegian actors announced said Israel is apartheid state, apologized for previous performance in Israel and adopted BDS.
In a six-minute video, the Spokeswoman of the National Theatre of Norway Gertrude Synge apologies on behalf of the playhouse for collaborating with HaBima, the National Theatre of Israel between 2013 and 2015.
“This is a great day for the National Theatre of Norway,” she says, “It is the day when we publicly apologies for our shameful collaboration with HaBima, the national theater of Israel.”
On Thursday, the video was uploaded on YouTube and went viral on mass media platforms on the internet.
Referring to the previous collaboration between the two theaters, Synge said that when National Theatre of Norway agreed to collaborate with the Israeli, the Norwegian did not know “what a powerful role HaBima and other Israeli art institutions play in normalizing the Israeli occupation.”
She described the Israeli art a “tool” for building an image of “a humanistic nation” instead of an “apartheid state.”
Citing the Israeli offensive on Gaza during in 2012, Synge said: “Five hundred Palestinian children lost their lives while HaBima was busy entertaining Israeli soldiers.”
At the end of the video, the actress announced that the Norwegian playhouse had adopted the BDS and would dedicate all means of production to “work with the situation in the Middle East” from 2017 to 2019.
Israel’s fury
The video aroused the anger of the Israeli officials as the Israeli foreign ministry accused the actors who prepared the work of “hypocritically hiding behind the guise of freedom of speech.”
It strongly criticized the video, saying: “This disinformation clip is reminiscent of the works of the Reich Minister of Propaganda Joseph Goebbels or the Nazi filmmaker Leni Riefenstahl.”
Then, it called on the Norwegian theater, “in whose name the libelous statements were made, to clearly and immediately repudiate them as well as to take the necessary measures to have the video removed from every site.”
