Penrhyn Castle, Bangor, Wales
Video of the splendid mock-Gothic pile on the North Wales coast. Don't miss the walled garden - one of the pleasantest places I've ever been to.
Penrhyn Castle, Bangor, North Wales.
Aerial filming for the National Trust at one of their sites in North Wales.
Penrhyn is one of the most admired of the numerous mock castles built in the United Kingdom in the 19th century; Christopher Hussey called it, the outstanding instance of Norman revival. [2] The castle is a picturesque composition that stretches over 600 feet from a tall donjon containing family rooms, through the main block built around the earlier house, to the service wing and the stables.
Penrhyn Castle circa 1880.
It is built in a sombre style which allows it to possess something of the medieval fortress air despite the ground-level drawing room windows. Hopper designed all the principal interiors in a rich but restrained Norman style, with much fine plasterwork and wood and stone carving. The castle also has some specially designed Norman style furniture, including a one ton slate bed made for Queen Victoria when she visited in 1859.
Filmed using our UAVs and edited in-house.

Penrhyn Castle is changing - Slate or State 2017
Penrhyn Castle is changing. For the very first time, we’re bringing the turbulent past of the Penrhyn Quarry Strike into the heart of the castle. It’s time to talk about the longest running industrial dispute in Britain and to uncover the dark history behind the extravagant architecture and fine art which ripped apart a community.
Penrhyn Castle National Trust
Inside the castle at Penrhyn you will find many opulent Victorian rooms full of all luxurious fitting . The castle was built by the Pennant family who made their vast fortune from sugar & slate.
The grounds a very well worth exploreing as they have some great views.

Visiting a castle for FREE? | Penrhyn Castle in Wales
We'd planned to hike Snowdon but when the weather turned bad we decided to find an indoor activity and stumbled across Penrhyn Castle. Usually £14 a ticket, we got in free with our National Trust memberships. As well as the castle itself, the grounds also hold a train museum, cafe and gardens (but it was raining too much to visit the latter!).

As seen on SkyEye Britain - LAUNCHING IN EARLY 2013! - skyeye-app.com
This is one of the great Norman revival mock castles of the early 19th century complete with a great keep. It is estimated that it may have cost around £150,000 to build, which in todayÌs money is close to 50 million pounds. It was built for the Pennant family, who had made a fortune from nearby Bethesda slate mining and Jamaican sugar.
Penrhyn Castle's legendary day out
Let Penrhyn Castle’s famous fortress and spectacular surroundings become a playground for young imaginations. Like the castle itself, Penrhyn’s grounds and gardens are extensive, dramatic, a feast for the senses. With views over Conwy Bay and Snowdonia, the unfussy lawns at Penrhyn are a perfect spot for a picnic, where young explorers can run, roll and cartwheel to their heart's content.

CONWY CASTLE IS INCREDIBLE!
Subscribe to SHABL -
Visiting Conwy Castle in North Wales was good times to say the least. This castle is in great condition and the whole medieval town of Conwy is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and for good reason. It has the most intact castle walls of any of the castles in Wales and the shell that is left of the former castle is simply stunning.
I walked the walls, toured Conwy Castle and did lots more. I saw the Smallest House in Great Britain before heading into Snowdonia National Park for a brief moment before going to Bodnant Welsh Food Center and tasting some local produce including some wine and cheese.
You can see the blog post I wrote about the day here:
