The Cayman Islands /The British overseas territory in the Caribbean Sea
The Cayman Islands is a British overseas territory located in the western Caribbean Sea. The territory comprises the islands of Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac, and Little Cayman, located south of Cuba and northwest of Jamaica. The territory was once a major offshore financial centre in the Caribbean.
The Cayman Islands were sighted by Christopher Columbus, on 10 May 1503 on his fourth and final voyage to the New World. He named them Las Tortugas after the numerous sea turtles there. The first recorded English visitor to the islands was Sir Francis Drake, who landed there in 1586 and named them the Cayman Islands after caiman, the Neo-Taino nations' term for alligator.
The first recorded permanent inhabitant of the Cayman Islands, Isaac Bodden, was born on Grand Cayman around 1661. He was the grandson of the original settler named Bodden who was probably one of Oliver Cromwell's soldiers at the taking of Jamaica in 1655.
The Cayman Islands remained largely uninhabited until the 17th century. A variety of people settled on the islands, including pirates, refugees from the Spanish Inquisition, shipwrecked sailors, deserters from Oliver Cromwell's army in Jamaica, and slaves. The majority of Caymanians are of African and British descent, with considerable interracial mixing.
Great Britain took formal control of the Cayman Islands, along with Jamaica, under the Treaty of Madrid in 1670. Following several unsuccessful attempts, permanent settlement of the islands began in the 1730s. The islands, along with nearby Jamaica, were captured from the Spanish Empire, then ceded to England under the Treaty of Madrid (1670). They were governed as a single colony with Jamaica until 1962 when they became a separate British Overseas Territory and Jamaica became an independent Commonwealth realm.
The island of Grand Cayman, which lies largely unprotected at sea level, was hit by Hurricane Ivan on 11 and 12 September 2004, which destroyed many buildings and damaged 90% of them. Power, water and communications were all disrupted in some areas for months as Ivan was the worst hurricane to hit the islands in 86 years. However, Grand Cayman began a major rebuilding process and within two years its infrastructure was nearly returned to pre-hurricane levels. The Cayman Islands have the dubious honour of having experienced the most hurricane strikes in history. Due to the proximity of the islands, more hurricane and tropical systems have affected the Cayman Islands than any other region in the Atlantic basin, being brushed or directly hit, on average, every 2.23 years.
The Cayman Islands historically have been popular as a tax-exempt destination. Legend has it that Caymanians in 1788 rescued the crews of a Jamaican merchant ship convoy which had struck a reef at Gun Bay during a hurricane, and that the Caymanians were rewarded with King George III's promise to never again impose a tax.
Pedro St. James, Cayman Islands National Historic Site
Pedro St. James Castle or Pedro's Castle is the oldest existing building in the Cayman Islands and is located on the southern coast of Grand Cayman in the district of Bodeen Town (the country's first capital).
The Great House, built in 1780 by plantation owner William Eden, was at the time the largest home in the Cayman Islands.
In 1831, it served as a rendezvous point for the first elected parliament in the Cayman Islands; the location has since been known as the Birthplace of Democracy in the Cayman Islands.
Four years later, in 1835, the Slavery Abolition Act was read from the stone archway of the building, freeing the islands' slaves.
By the 1970s, The building was reduced to ruin after decades of neglect.
In 1996, a restoration project took place retuning the three-story building to its original 18th-century style.
Currently, a 7th great-grandson of William Eden serves as one of the tour guides at the historical site.

More information about the video content bellow:
1. First and foremost, Bermuda is not in the Caribbean. It is located in the Atlantic Ocean, about 1030 km from the United States’ East Coast. Bermuda is a cluster of 181 islands. The islands of Bermuda are named after Juan de Bermúdez who claimed the islands for Spain in 1503, though he never actually landed there. Bermuda became a British colony in 1707. It is now the oldest and most populous remaining British Overseas Territory.
2. Bermuda was settled by accident in 1609 after an English ship wrecked off the island’s shores.
3. During the 1700s, the island did not have much natural resources to reap. What they did have though, is what the ocean provided, along with the sturdy cedar trees that grew all over the island. Therefore, it made sense then, that they turned to shipbuilding and privateering – or in other words, piracy. The Isle of Devils, as it was called, was a strategic location when ships would sail between England, Spain, and France, and the Caribbean and the New World (North America). Bermuda was famous for not only capturing merchant ships that made the mistake of sailing into the wrong local waters, but they also plundered all the way from Boston to the Turks Islands and Bahamas.
4. The Bermuda Triangle, allegedly an area in the Atlantic of unexplained disasters or disappearances, was first mentioned in 1964.
5. There is no public water system on Bermuda, as the island has no natural source of freshwater. Bermudians have to rely on rainfall to fill up their water tanks, greatly helped by the shape of their limestone roofs.
6. At 53 km sq, Bermuda is about 10 times smaller than the island of Montreal, but is actually the third most densely populated place in the world, with a population per sq mile of about 3000 people. It also has one of the world's highest GDP per capita. There is no corporate income tax, making it a popular tax haven for the ultra wealthy.
7. Hamilton is the capital of the British Overseas Territory of Bermuda. It is the territory's financial centre and a major port and tourist destination. Its population of 1,010 is one of the smallest of any capital cities.

Cruise Ship Private Island vs Exploring a Caribbean Island On Your Own
Cruise Ship Private Island vs Exploring a Caribbean Island On Your Own Which is the better way to go? If you get off a cruise ship in a Caribbean port, you can explore the local lay of the lnd, but you may be subjected to unwanted advances from locals trying to sell you something. If you only visit private islands or cays operated by the cruise lines, you may become bored with the lack of local culture, but you will enjoy security and a fun setting for a day out with your children.

A TOUR THROUGH ROYAL NAVAL DOCKYARD - SANDYS PARISH - BERMUDA
