Tortola British Virgin Islands Barber World TV International Travel
On this Barber World TV adventure I visited one of the most beautiful islands in the Caribbean Tortola. Tortola is a part of the British Virgin Islands also know as the BVI.
Sir Richard Branson owns a lot of land in these parts partially because of his fondness of the word Virgin I guess. With a generous invite from a long time friend Mr. Don Martin a Tuesday basketball buddy I graciously accepted an opportunity to expand my travel pallet.
I initially had to book a flight to St Thomas one of the US Virgin Islands then catch a one-hour ferry ⛴ ride over to Tortola. The next step is to make it threw customs so please don’t forget your passport.
I texted Don to let him know I had indeed arrived. Once I stepped out I felt a little excited to see what this Island had to offer. I first noticed the similarities to most of the islands in the Caribbean the tropical climate and the pastel colors in the landscape. I also noticed the damage from hurricane Irma.
Once I got in the car with Don we headed to Quito’s one of the popular restaurants and bars on the Cane Bay beachfront. Upon arrival I had to get out of my winter clothes so I threw on a dry fit polo shirt, much better. The view was amazing and the sun was setting as we sat bar side and ordered a few drinks. Don recommended a Painkiller, I’m still not sure what was in it but I know that adding a dash of cinnamon to their drinks seems to be a BVI custom.
Not long after a few rounds of Painkillers we headed up the road to Brian’s a small local restaurant. Don explained how he wanted my to experience the local hospitality and dish of Tortola. I will say without question Don was absolutely on mark with his suggestion. Brian greatest us very pleasantly and offed is a shot of Mama Wanna, a Dominican local drink. I know you’re most likely thinking what are they doing serving a Dominican drink in Tortola, long story short there seems to be a lot of Dominicans in Tortola. Don and I ordered the steamed red snapper. If you never had red snapper prepared by people from the Caribbean let me first warn you it’s served whole, that means the head is and eyes are still attached. Once our food was ready it came out in a serving tin like the ones you put on top of heating sternal. When I pulled the lid off the time the aroma was perfect. I looked down and saw a 5-pound snapper winking at me surrounded by okras, plantains, breadfruit, carrots ???? onions and peppers. Thank you Brian for the delicious food conversation and hospitality.
As always I have to find some time to visit a barbershop in all my travels. First there was Clifford’s Barbershop. A small one-man operation. Clifford is a native of Jamaica the migrated to Tortola skills already in tact. Clifford prefers to work alone in the small but humble shop taking pride in the personal relationships and personal touch. I also visited another barbershop, Klippers Barbershop. Klippers was a much larger barbershop and a little more modern. Klippers is about a 10 chairs barbershop, which was a surprise for me to see. In most Caribbean countries I’m use to seeing small one to two man operations. The barber at Klippers were much more engaging and the also e=were all from Jamaica. I will honestly say in my experience most barbers from the Caribbean are very talented especially Jamaican Barbers.

Camille Pissarro Gallery, Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, Virgin Islands
Born on St. Thomas on July 10, 1803 in the town of Charlotte Amalie, Camille Pissarro is probably the Virgin Islands most famous native son. He is considered to be the leader of the Impressionism movement of painting. Local boy makes good!
Pissarro lived in St. Thomas as a youth, leaving to attend boarding school in Paris, then returning to St. Thomas in 1847 to help his father run a dry goods business. The Pissarro family operated a general store in what is now known as the Pissarro Building, at 14 Dronnigens Gade in Charlotte Amalie. The family lived upstairs over the store.
At boarding school in Paris the director noted his artistic talent and interests, and advised him to take advantage of his life in the tropics by drawing coconut trees. The young Pissarro took his advice, and took his sketchbook with him when his father sent him to the port to supervise arrivals of merchandise. He drew what he saw in the harbor and around the island in his spare time.
However during the following 5 years of working in the family business while trying to become an artist, Pissarro did not get his parents permission to devote himself completely to painting, so he ran away to Caracas, Venezuela. He was 23 at the time, and while he was there he studied under Fritz Melbye, a Danish painter from Copenhagen. In Caracas her produced drawings, watercolors, and paintings, signing many of them as Pizzarro. As he noted in a letter to an art dealer and collector:
Living in Saint Thomas in 1852, employed in a well-paying business, I could not endure the situation any longer, and without thinking, I abandoned all I had there and fled to Caracas, thus breaking the bonds that tied me to bourgeois life. What I suffered is incredible, but I have lived: what I am suffering now is terrible, much worse even than when I was young, full of zeal and enthusiasm. Now I am convinced that my future is dead. Yet I think that if I had to start all over again, I would not hesitate to follow the same path.
Pissarro eventually returned to St. Thomas and his parents gave him their support as a full time artist. He then left the Virgin Islands for Paris, where he eventually became the leader of a group of painters that included Renoir, Monet, Degas, and Cezanne, who formed the initial Impressionistic style of painting.
Pissarro was an active painter up until the time he died in 1903.

Poros island: top weekend destination.
It's full of pine trees which reach the shores and the sandy beaches The residents of Poros are no different from other Greek islanders in spontaneity, dignity and hospitality. The large homes on the beach have a neoclassical style in contrast to the common duplex houses in Brinia, Milo, Pounta and Kasteli. The first dwellings were built in 1463 and located around the famous Clock.
In the center of the city you can find the Town Hall, the archaeological museum, a public library along with a reception hall for exhibitions and other cultural events.
Many taverns are sparcely located among the picturesque alleyways and the whitewashed houses of Poros which are surrounded by bougainvillea . Visitors can enjoy souvenir shops, cafeterias, taverns and clubs playing Greek and English music all along the pier.
Along the coast going towards the training center, we come across the open air movie theater Diana which has premiers of the best films shown this past winter. Right next to it is the exhibition hall of Poros that constantly has exhibitions.
Poros is comprised of two islands, Sphairia and Kalavria, of which the former is a volcanic rock and the latter planted with pine trees. Poros is easily accessible from Piraeus (Ferries depart from GateE8 in Piraeus) and from Peloponnese (Galatas).
Bus and taxi terminals are located in the center of the beach area. Access to boats that go along the shores of Galata is also available there. Public transportation around the island runs pretty smoothly all day. Buses leave every hour while boats depart every ten minutes. On the beach you can find scooter and bike rentals whereas cars are rented right across the island, in Galata.

AROUND THE WORLD without visas
You will not surprise anyone with around-the-world travel in the 21st century. People span the globe by land, water and air, on foot and by bicycles, alone and with their families. Generally speaking, any around the world travel is, in fact, a journey home with the longest detour.
Nonsense! Thus, around the world travelers are forced to think of new vehicles – from stilts to a children's scooter, or of new conceptual ideas.
Valery Shanin can not complain about lack of ideas. The professional traveler, writer and journalist, began his first circumnavigation back in 1999. He returned home only in 2002, traveling mostly hitchhiking. On the one hand, he has spent 1080 days for this travel. And on the other – only 280 dollars! This way having made one of the most economical circumnavigations.
Five years later, Valery Shanin had another idea. How about trying to circle the Earth as quickly as possible, by saving time instead of money? How many days would be necessary for this purpose? 108 – such is Valery's answer. After having returned home from such a high-speed expedition, Shanin decided, that the subject of circumnavigations was settled for him.
But how can the traveler stay still at home? And here, a new idea turned out! It came obviously from the former traveling experience, that was often connected with the burdensome procedure of obtaining visas. Communication with the embassy and consulate officials, unfortunately, inevitably saddens any most interesting travel. However, there are countries, visa-free for Russians! So, it is possible to go traveling, without addressing consulates. This is how the project The World without Visas was brought to life.
Valery decided to begin with no less, than with a circumnavigation.
Around the world without visas! - Shanin put forward the loud slogan, and left for Europe, Africa, Middle East, Indochina, South East Asia, Oceania, South America, Carribean islands. 38 countries in 255 days and with no one visit to any consulate.

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer Audiobook by Mark Twain | Audiobooks Youtube Free
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (published 1876) is a very well-known and popular story concerning American youth. Mark Twain's lively tale of the scrapes and adventures of boyhood is set in St. Petersburg, Missouri, where Tom Sawyer and his friend Huckleberry Finn have the kinds of adventures many boys can imagine: racing bugs during class, impressing girls, especially Becky Thatcher, with fights and stunts in the schoolyard, getting lost in a cave, and playing pirates on the Mississippi River.
One of the most famous incidents in the book describes how Tom persuades his friends to do a boring, hateful chore for him: whitewashing (i.e., painting) a fence.
This was the first novel to be written on a typewriter.

Three Short Works
Gustave FLAUBERT
Here is a collection of strikingly different pieces by Flaubert: a prose poem in the voices of Death, Satan and Nero; the trials and apotheosis of a medieval saint; and the life of a selfless maid in 19th century France. Each exhibits the vigorous exactness, and the mixture of realism and romanticism, for which Flaubert is renowned.
