Tomar Convent of Christ Portugal

The Convent of Christ (12th century - 18th century) is the name given to a set of historical buildings in the city of Tomar, Portugal. Tomar Castle:

The beginning of its construction dates back to 1160 and is closely linked to the beginnings of the kingdom of Portugal and the role then played by the Order of the Templars, having been reconfigured and expanded in subsequent centuries, when the Order of Christ was located there.

Built over hundreds of years by some of the most important masters and architects working in Portugal, this architectural ensemble includes diversified buildings, almost all of remarkable heritage relevance. the Manueline church and the Renaissance convent. Its present configuration reflects the successive functions for which it was intended and the architectural typologies of the historical periods in which it was built.

The Convent of Christ stands out as one of the most important monumental ensembles in Portuguese territory and is classified as a National Monument (1910) and a World Heritage Site (1983)

Foi inaugurado, no último sábado, o Villa Nova Nautic & Nature Hotel, um novo espaço de alojamento e aventura situado junto da Albufeira de Castelo de Bode, em particular no lugar de Vila Nova, na área da União de Freguesias da Serra e Junceira. Está em causa um investimento promovido por três irmãos, com ligações ao concelho de Tomar. A Hertz marcou presença nesta sessão e registou, em vídeo, alguns dos melhores momentos.

No sábado, dia da nossa reportagem, realizou-se um workshop, na Serra, onde as pessoas trocaram ideias, esclareceram dúvidas e aprenderam a fazer várias flores. Esta freguesia aposta na tradição e é a única onde as coroas dos tabuleiros são revestidas a papel branco, tal como se pode ver na foto. Continuem a fazer flores lindas.

Fausto Matias is a Portuguese born multidisciplinary artist recipient of various awards, including a 1993 Fellowship from the New York Foundation for the Arts in the category of Performance Art/Emergent Forms.
He was selected for the 1998-99 Artist-in-Residence Program at Movement Research in New York City, one of the world's leading laboratories for experimental dance and movement-based forms.

In the 1990’s Mr. Matias was selected to perform at several of New York’s foremost cutting-edge venues, such as: PS 122, The Kitchen, Dixon Place, St. Mark’s Church, Bessie Schonberg Theater at DTW, Dancing in the Streets, The Joyce Theater & Joyce Soho and The Judson Church /a venue where selected artists presented experimental works for open minded audiences.

A Festa dos Tabuleiros é uma celebração da cidade de Tomar, Portugal e uma das maiores e mais antigas do país, sendo a Festa que atrai mais visitantes em Portugal, cerca de meio milhão de pessoas, apenas no dia do Cortejo dos Tabuleiros.
É também considerado um dos maiores Festivais do Mundo , tendo adquirido estatuto e fama internacional, e é hoje em dia um dos ícones culturais de Portugal.
A Festa dos Tabuleiros ou, também chamada, Festa do Divino Espírito Santo, encontra-se entre as mais antigas realizações culturais e religiosas portuguesas. As suas origens remontam às festas das colheitas que se realizavam nos tempos pagãos em honra da deusa Ceres. Com a cristianização e a criação da Congregação do Espírito Santo, adquiriram um cunho religioso.
Também conhecida como a Festa do Espírito Santo, realiza-se de 4 em 4 anos, no início do mês de Julho.
A simbologia do culto do espírito Santo viria a ser retomada por um dos maiores pensadores e filósofos portugueses e europeus do século XX, Fernando Pessoa, como a utopia do Quinto Império - concebida pelo padre António Vieira no século XVII.

The Festival of Trays is a celebration of the city of Tomar, Portugal, and one of the largest and oldest in the country, being a festival that attracts more visitors in Portugal, about half a million people, only on the day of the Procession of trays.
It is also considered one of the greatest World Festivals, having acquired international status and fame, and is today one of the cultural icons of Portugal.
The Festival of Trays or also called, the feast of the Holy Spirit, is among the oldest Portuguese cultural and religious achievements. It has origins in the Cult of the Holy Spirit, which began in the 16th century, but we can see in it traces of earlier harvest festivals, such as in the profusion of flowers and the fact that bread and ears of wheat are present on the trays.
With the Christianization and the creation of the Holy Ghost Fathers, acquired a religious nature.
The Trays Festival is held every four years in early July.
The symbolism of the cult of the Holy Spirit would be taken up by one of the greatest thinkers and Portuguese and European philosophers of the twentieth century, Fernando Pessoa, as the utopia of the Fifth Empire - conceived by Father Antonio Vieira in the seventeenth century.
