Samora Machel Monument and Museum
The Samora Machel Monument and Museum in Mbuzini, near Komatipoort in the Mpumalanga province of South Africa, marks the spot where the plane carrying the then-President of Mozambique crashed in 1986. It resulted in the deaths of President Machel and several Mozambican ministers. It was declared a National Heritage Site in 2006.
A few photographs and video footage of the monument and museum are presented in this video. The central feature of the monument is 35 tubes of steel that create a wailing sound in the wind.

A Day in Maputo, Mozambique (180 Day Cruise around the World) (2018)

TRANSCRIPT:
Adventurers, welcome, this is day 44 and we are in Maputo, Mozambique, which is the capital city and largest city of Mozambique.
Maputo is a melting pot of several cultures, including South African influences, Portuguese, and Arab influences.
We did a city tour today starting at the train station, which was designed by Gustave Eiffel, the same person that designed the Eiffel Tower.
Then on to the market. What a beautiful display of vegetables and fruits and nuts. In fact in Maputo they have a huge amount of cashews and I bought a bag while we were there.
Then on to Independence Square where there were a lot of beautiful buildings built by the Portuguese before they were basically kicked out in the 1960s.
Then they took us to the natural history museum and they had all kinds of different animals, insects, large...this gigantic insect...I don't know what it was, but I took a picture of it.
What they are known for is that they have the full gestation period of fetuses for an elephant. I don't know if you're aware, but elephant gestation periods is 22 months, so by the time the baby elephant is born, it weighs a lot!
We also went to an art museum where after the civil war, they transformed shotgun shells, arms, and weapons into art.
Last, we went to the fort where they use this to defend Maputo against pirates. This structure was built in the 19th century and was also used by Dutch slave traders.
The Red Brick fortress has a central courtyard and is one of the most revered historic monuments in the city.
When we're finished with the fort, we went back to the ship because we were so hot. It was 96 degrees and the humidity was very high as well, and we couldn't wait to get back in the pool to cool ourselves off!
In closing, my wish for you is that you will love abundantly, protect your health, and be adventurous for life. You are beautiful. Let your light shine, Aloha!

SIGHTSEEING WITH BEETHOVEN IN MAPUTO, MOZAMBIQUE
SIGHTSEEING WITH BEETHOVEN IN MAPUTO, MOZAMBIQUE
This video is part of my Travel with Beethoven series. Please check out my other videos in the Travel with Beethoven series.
Maputo is the capital of the East African country, Mozambique. Maputo population is 1.1 million. Maputo is an Indian Ocean port with generally well-preserved Portuguese colonial architecture. There are many turn-of-the-century buildings in the downtown area including the Maputo Railway Station and the Ferro Building.
While Maputo may currently look somewhat littered and tired and old, my video sightseeing tour portrays the unique historical beauty and special nature of Maputo - using Beethoven to set the tone.
On the political front, the colonialists are long gone. Mozambique is - officially - the People's Republic of Mozambique as it was proclaimed on June 25, 1975. I will let the reader sort out the nature of Mozambique's politics since 1975.
It should be noted that after independence, the statues of Portuguese heroes in Maputo were removed and most were stored at the Fortress of Maputo. Most of the city's streets, originally named for Portuguese heroes or important dates in Portuguese history, had their names changed to African languages and revolutionary figures.
The Beethoven music is from the RockTrax2 library from Digital Juice which I purchased. I own rights to this music.

3D Heritage Documentation - 3D Laser-scan Model of the Saint Sebastian Fortress on Mozambique Island
This is the animation of the Saint Sebastian Fortress on Mozambique Island.
Built in the 16th century by the Portuguese colonial rulers, the Fortress is one of the oldest and in its massive and sober military architecture one of the most impressive monuments of the Island. It bears witness to the island's early function as a major Portuguese trading port on the sea route to India for spices and ivory, and later for slave trade as of the second half of the 18th century. Its defensive forms are greatly inspired by Italian Renaissance military architecture and have basically remained unchanged since, as evidenced by illustrations and drawings of the period. (
This fort, is one of seven sites (forts/castles) documented by the Zamani Project, which were involved in the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, between the sixteenth and the nineteenth centuries. Get more information at our Slave Trade Story Map at
Zamaniproject.org/slavetrade
This 3D Model is produced by the Zamani Project (University of Cape Town) as part of the African Cultural Heritage Sites and landscapes documentation project. It is derived from high resolution terrestrial Laser-Scan data and represents the site as is with cm accuracy and without any augmentation.
This anmiation was done by Mr Pascal Mau, Hochschule Furtwangen University, working as an intern at the Zamani Project, University of Cape Town.

Natural History Museum - Dodo - Raphus cucullatus - Dúdúfugl -- Útdauðir fuglar - Náttúrugripasafn
Natural History Museum - Dodo - Raphus cucullatus - Dúdúfuglar - Dúdúfugl - Dúdú fuglar - Dúðaætt - Drontfåglar - Dront - Doudo - Mauritius Dodo - ഡോഡോ പക്ഷി - Raphinae - Ófleygur fugl - Útdauðir fuglar - Náttúrugripasafn - Náttúrusögusafnið í London - Skoðunarferð - Ferðalag - Risaeðlur - Fornlíffræði. Gengið um sali safnsins.
The dodo (Raphus cucullatus) is an extinct flightless bird that was endemic to the island of Mauritius, east of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean. The dodo's closest genetic relative was the also-extinct Rodrigues solitaire, the two forming the subfamily Raphinae of the family of pigeons and doves. The closest living relative of the dodo is the Nicobar pigeon. A white dodo was once thought to have existed on the nearby island of Réunion, but this is now thought to have been confusion based on the Réunion ibis and paintings of white dodos. The last widely accepted sighting of a dodo was in 1662. Its extinction was not immediately noticed, and some considered it to be a mythical creature. In the 19th century, research was conducted on a small quantity of remains of four specimens that had been brought to Europe in the early 17th century. Among these is a dried head, the only soft tissue of the dodo that remains today. Since then, a large amount of subfossil material has been collected on Mauritius, mostly from the Mare aux Songes swamp. See more:
Risaeðlur (fræðiheiti: Dinosauria) voru hryggdýr sem drottnuðu yfir landrænu vistkerfi Jarðar í meira en 160 milljónir ára. Þær komu fyrst fram á sjónarsviðið fyrir um 230 milljónum ára. Í lok Krítartímabilsins fyrir 65 milljónum ára varð hamfaraatburður sem að olli útdauða þeirra og þar með endalokum yfirráða þeirra á landi. Fuglar nútímans eru taldi vera beinir afkomendur risaeðlanna. Síðan leifar fyrstu risaeðlunnar fundust á 19. öld hafa steingerðar beinagrindur þeirra dregið að sér mikla athygli á söfnum um víða veröld. Risaeðlur eru orðnar nokkurskonar hluti af heimsmenningunni og ekkert lát virðist vera á vinsældum þeirra, þá sér í lagi á meðal barna. Fjallað hefur verið um þær í metsölubókum og kvikmyndum á borð við Jurassic Park (Júragarðurinn), og eru nýjustu uppgötvanir varðandi risaeðlur reglulega birtar í fjölmiðlum. Orðið dinosaur er einnig notað óformlega til að lýsa hverskyns forsögulegum skriðdýrum eins og pelycosaur Dimetrodon, hinum vængjaða pterosaur, og vatnaskriðdýrunum ichthyosaur, plesiosaur og mosasaur, þrátt fyrir að engin þeirra séu í raun risaeðlur. :
Risaeðlur njóta sérstöðu í fornlíffræðinni vegna stærðar sinnar. Sumar tegundir urðu meira en 50 tonn að þyngd eða 50.000 kg. :
