Restoring the Mauritian ecosystem | Natural History Museum
From painting a new scientifically inspired dodo to discovering the different trends in natural history illustration, you can explore our natural history art collection and expertise in these online videos.
When Dutch sailors first landed on the island of Mauritius in 1598 it was home to a thriving population of dodos. It took less than 90 years for them to vanish. What do we know of their habitat and can the original ecosystem ever be restored?

Xplore Mauritius Dodo Museum
The dodo (Raphus cucullatus) was a flightless bird endemic to the Indian Ocean island of Mauritius. The discovery yielded several Dodo bones, including remains of Dodo chicks and a very rare part of the bird's beak, only a few of which are known to exist in the entire world. The skeleton on view in the Museum is real, the model is not, as there are no complete Dodo specimens.

Awesome Aerial View of Mahebourg Naval Museum in Mauritius
The gorgeous Naval Museum in Mahebourg, Mauritius is a Gem to behold! We shot an aerial view of the colonial house it is based in and the breathtaking surrounding greenery.
