I had the opportunity to visit Taiwan for a week. Marking the second country in Asia I've been to. I've been living in Japan for a year now and will be posting more adventure vlogs about that soon. This first part of my Taiwan series is located in Wulai, a quaint valley village outside of Taipei about 40 minutes. We collaborated with some local businesses:

So go to the end of the old street past the wild boar sausage stand, you'll see a bridge crossing the river on the right, go over that and take a left, you'll see a mural of deer on the wall to the right and the Fish Spa is across from that - the sign is small but the downstairs sells icecream/ice treats.
Things I ate were all tasty, but as you can see some, harder to chew than others.

Our favourite part of the trip would definitely have to be enjoying the huge, natural hot spring pool in our backyard that opens up to the starry skies at night ✨ a private hot spring pool is available in most of their rooms!
The owner of Jixiang also runs a sunrise Qingshui Cliffs kayaking tour???? We had to get out of bed at 2 am to catch the golden sunrise whi by the majestic Qingshui cliffs - totally worth it!

This is what happens when you try tai chi for the first time in Taipei. We were completely out of our element at the temple but so amused with how clueless I'm sure we looked to the locals. Right after we head to the town of Wulai just south of Taipei to finally soak ourselves in one of many hot springs in the area. It was hot, cold, and sometimes just right but Yen Town was the perfect place to soothe our aching muscles. If that wasn't enough, we wrapped up our day at a hip new place called Addiction Aquatic Development and then tried our hand at the favourite Taiwanese past-time of shrimp fishing.
With a days left to go on our trip, we made sure to make it count making a fast-forward race to have Din Tai Fung for the famed xiao long bao and buy pineapple pastry/cake for friends and family back home.
And just like that, our 12 days in Taiwan trip comes to a close. I have to thank Joshua of MyTaiwanTour for this episode and introducing us to his tai chi class, and showing us Wulai.

Taiwanese cuisine
Taiwanese cuisine has several variations. In addition to the following representative dishes from the people of Hoklo ethnicity, there are also Aboriginal, Hakka, and local derivatives of Chinese cuisines such as beef noodle soup.
Taiwanese cuisine itself is often associated with influences from mid to southern provinces of Mainland China, most notably from the province of Fujian, but influences from all of Mainland China can easily be found. A notable Japanese influence also exists due to the period when Taiwan was under Japanese rule. Traditional Chinese food can be found in Taiwan, alongside Fujian and Hakka-style as well as native Taiwanese dishes, includes dishes from Guangdong, Jiangxi, Chaoshan, Shanghai, Hunan, Sichuan and Beijing.

位在瑞豐夜市附近的東門茶樓，是IG人氣打卡冰店，不僅外觀亮眼，口味創意無限。東門茶樓有兩個門口，一個在瑞豐夜市後面，如果你從在東門路117巷過去，你會看到一個金屬的中式招牌寫『自在院』，這就是東門茶樓！東門茶樓的菜單有夏天會幫你消暑的冰品、甜點、茶飲、豆花、手作甜塔和可愛的甜心圈。新鮮的水果很香，口感多汁。所有的餐點都很豐富，也很有美感。
????第四站：#凹子底森林公園
被高樓大廈圍繞的凹子底森林公園，是這塊商圈重要的綠地，靠近捷運凹子底站4號出口，交通方便、公園占地廣大，且綠樹成蔭，不用擔心曬到太陽，非常適合散步、運動等休閒活動，公園裡有一個漂亮的生態池、滑輪場，可以帶狗狗跟朋友們玩，一同享受夏天的美！

????First stop: #YUMTEA（泱茶）
By midday it was too hot to stay outside, so we hid in YUMTEA close to Kaohsiung Arena. Well-lit, comfy space and Korean pop in the background makes you relaxed. YUMTEA is not like other tea shops! The taste of tea drinks is rich and fresh. At the same time, YUMTEA is a popular Instagram tagging location for Korean wave fans and looks stylish on any photographs!

French-style caramel bubble (法式黑糖波波) is a fusion of French-style baked pudding, caramel bubble with fresh milk. It’s a popular drink at YUMTEA.
Winter melon tea with golden chrysanthemums (冬瓜金菊): the chrysanthemums grown by small farmers in Taitung and handmade winter melon tea give you a refreshing feeling. YUMTEA’s unique addition to drinks are pearls with sweet filling, naturally colored pink with red yeast rice and without any chemicals. The pearls are a transparent decoration to the winter melon tea with golden chrysanthemums.
Fresh pomelo yumtea (泱泱鮮柚) is a perfect combination of smoothie made of 100% fresh fruit, fresh pomelo and jade tea. It breaks the stereotype of grapefruit being bitter. The truth is that it’s the most refreshing drink for the summer!
????Second stop: #午涼go for ice
Fresh fruit combined with ice-cream is the specialty of this place! Double-colored crystal (雙色水玉) is a pyramid of red and yellow melon cut into little balls with a scoop of ice-cream on top. It tastes refreshing and natural. Other specialty is ‘aurora ice’ (極光冰); ice is sprinkled with vanilla sauce and chef-made butterfly pea syrup, then, sprinkled with lemon juice, the ice changes color to a dazzling shade of pink! Make a hole in the middle and pour inside the butterfly pea jelly made by the chef. This combination tastes super refreshing! You can also have a hand-made Oreo cake here!
????Third stop: #East Gate Tea House (東門茶樓)
located by the Ruifeng Night Market, is one of the most popular ice shops on Instagram! Not only does it attract people with its exterior design, but also with the immense creativity of its desserts! East Gate Tea House has two entrances, one on the side of the night market and the other one on the opposite side. If you choose the entrance by Lane 117, Dongmen Street, you will see a golden Chinese-style signboard - that's East Gate Tea House! Its menu is full of desserts that will give you relief in the summer heat, such as ice, pastry, tea, tofu pudding, hand-made tarts and cute little cakes! Fresh fruit are fragrant and juicy, the desserts are rich and look superb!
????Fourth stop: #Aozidi Forest Park（凹子底森林公園）
Aozidi Forest Park, surrounded by skyscrapers, is an important green spot in this area. It is located by the Aozidi MRT station exit 4, thus the transportation is very convenient. The area of the forest is quite large and covered with trees giving a blessing shade, so you don’t have to worry about the sun too much. The spot is perfect for walking, sports and other leisure activities. There is a beautiful pond in the park and a roller rink. You can take your dog and friends to have fun together and enjoy the summer!

Watching dragons weave through exploding firecrackers, we've come to the annual dragon bombing festival in Miaoli.
This dragon bombing event takes place on the Lantern Festival every year, when craftsmen watch the fruit of their hard work literally go up in flames.
Jhang Jhi-hao, Craftsman:
Here we're trying to balance it out. If you don't get the shape right, you'll end up with a crooked dragon, and that'll look terrible.
My grandfather was the first to get involved in this, then my father and now me. I guess you can say we're trying to keep the tradition alive.
Each year you spend all this time on your dragons to see them get holes put in them and then burned, don't you feel a little sad?
Yes, at the beginning, but not so much now.
Chiu Bing-Kun, Miaoli City Mayor:
Dragon bombing is a tradition five to six centuries old, and in Taiwan it's still only carried out in Miaoli. It is when the gods descend upon our world to drive away evil spirits.
After the dragons have been put together, they're brought to Yucing Temple to have their eyes marked in. This where festivities begin.
Wei Jyun-jie, Yucing Temple Director:
Yucing Temple is a spiritual center for people in Miaoli. The resident deity here is the Saintly Emperor Guan.
Chiu Bing-Kun, Miaoli City Mayor:
Here when a baby is one month old, it is brought here with offerings to the gods. Its parents will ask the gods to accept their baby as a follower.
And in predominantly Hakka Miaoli, this is what people traditionally eat during the time of the festival - large, savory glutinous rice balls.
Gao Mei-hua, Chef:
Mainly you start with this - pork. Most Hakka people like their food cheap, in large portions and of course tasty.
The filling-less rice balls here come in a savory soup made with sauteed garlic, pork, mushroom and dried shrimp. It is practically irresistible. When you come to Miaoli, you're really going to want to try this out too.

Far East Adventure Travel Best of Live Typhoon Alley-Taiwan
I always get asked when is the best time to visit Taiwan. I always respond with almost anytime if you don't mind hot weather, rain, or an occasional typhoon. For most the idea of spending their vacation in a place where typhoons regularly develop between May and November is a scary proposition. If you do ever find yourself traveling in Taiwan during those months, and I've met many people who have found themselves in that position, consider yourself lucky to be in one of the safest and most well equipped places in the world where typhoons, hurricanes, cyclones, all the same thing, occur. Because of the country's history and experience with typhoons they have become one of the best prepared nations in the world to minimize injury and fatalities. If you ask most Taiwanese about typhoons most will shrug them off as a regular occurrence that only requires staying put inside, watching TV or renting a karaoke room with friends and waiting until the typhoon is no longer a threat, usually only a few hours. So if you should ever find yourself in Taiwan when a typhoon warning has been announced, just make sure you have some extra food, snacks or water, something to keep you entertained in your hotel room, a flashlight and a battery pack for your phone, in case of a power outage, and a little patience to wait out the storm. Perhaps even an expectation that you might be delayed a day while transportation around the island gets back to normal. Unless you happen to be on one of the outer islands where tourists are often evacuated off of before a typhoon approaches the area, you'll at the most be inconvenienced. If you can carry the same attitude that Taiwanese do, you'll just sit back, appreciate the force of mother nature, and let the typhoon pass by. You'll also take away a unique travel experience and a story that you'll never get tired of telling. 來自澳洲布里斯本的演員Drmsby，因為工作忙碌，一直沒有機會出國旅行。這次，熱愛重機的他，將與車友以自由行方式大山闊水的暢遊東台灣，從台11沿海線至豐濱，長虹橋切入台9線，一路遨遊至台東的六十石山，沿途的碧海青天和田園美景，讓這位澳洲的重機車手Drmsby打從心底的讚嘆與感動。東台灣依山傍海的景致，與原住民朋友一同採收的豐收饗宴，在歡樂的歌聲中為這趟美好的台灣圓夢之旅畫下句點。
Drmsby is a motorcycle racer and an actor. He finally has a chance to travel abroad and heads to Taiwan to ride along the scenic mountain route and seaside path of Taiwan’s East Coast with Fun Taiwan host Sharon. While down at Southern Taiwan, Drmsby learns how to make small leather goods from an indigenous artist and experiences an authentic meal made from red quinoa. Along the way, he learns all about Taiwanese grown tea leaves and makes an art piece out of pebble rock. With Sharon leading the way,our Australian friend discovers the hidden treasures of Taiwan, and adds another memorable chapter in his Taiwan story.
