Amazon Rainforest Peru | Unusual Travel Destination
Welcome to the Peruvian Amazon! This has been on our bucket list for a long time, and now we finally can check it off. Our journey started from Yurimaguas, where we took the 3-day boat ride to the small town of Nauta. There we hired a local guide for a rainforest adventure deep into the jungle. We fished the piranhas, and we build our own shelter to a jungle. Rainforest was full of monkeys, caimans, snakes, poisonous spiders, frogs and other unique creatures. There was also a lot of pink river dolphins in the river base which you cannot find anywhere else in the world.
After rainforest exploring, we headed towards Iquitos, the largest town in the world not connected by road. It’s hidden deep in the Amazon jungle, and you have to go either by boat or fly in. There we tasted one of the most disgusting food we've ever eaten, Suri Grubs.

ONG PAMS Peruvian American Medical Society
The city of Trujillo, Peru was hit by the fury of nature with one of the most devastating huaicos of the last twenty years. The slide was stronger than previously seen on February 1998, the year in which the city suffered the blows of the phenomenon known as El Niño.
Six Hauicos, flash floods caused by torrential rains, abruptly appeared in less than a week after the overflow of the San Idelfonso, San Carlos, and Leon ravines.
The turbulent waters swept everything in its path starting from the district of El Porvenir and Laredo. Tombs and tombstones were removed by the floods in the cemetery of mampuesto in the district of El Porvenir, leaving homes full of mud and roads covered in sand. These waters even reached the Plaza de Armas of Trujillo and its streets of the historical center and urban housing, affecting as well the district of Victor Larco Herrera and the health spas of Huanchaco.
The prestigious non-profit organization PAMS, ( Peruvian American Medical Society) with more than forty years of providing humanitarian aid to Peru, met and organized a fund due to the natural disaster that is affecting the North Coast of Peru.

Amazon rowers to brave hostage takers, uninhabited jungle and waterborne parasites
A gruelling 2,077 mile challenge faces Cambridge academic Mark de Rond and rowing coach Anton Wright as they attempt to row the navigable length of the River Amazon.
Fast-moving debris, waterborne parasites and uninhabited jungle face the pair, who aim to be the first to cover the distance without support from back-up teams.
The biggest threat comes not from the natural environment, says Dr de Rond, but from hostage takers.
Swimmers, canoeists, even bathtub-paddlers have all risen to the challenge, but the Cambridge pair will enter the record books as the first 'unsupported' attempt.
According to de Rond and Wright the other teams had support crews to help them feed, sleep and to offer protection.
One of the things we have cause to worry about is the risk of kidnapping and hostage taking. It's something we did not expect but we know from a very good source, it is a very real risk, and we have no defence.
The boat that we are rowing is a bright yellow ocean rowing boat, so it's very hard to stay below the radar - almost like a bright yellow cash point machine floating past.
Dr de Rond of Cambridge Judge Business School is a recognised authority on team behaviour under pressure. Anton Wright, who came up with the fundraising challenge, is head coach and boatman for Clare College, Cambridge.

This time the heavy rains in Tambopata caused some flooding along the route to Otilia. However, this is not an impediment to enjoy the season and continue en route. In fact, this was no deterrent to this little dog to continue with his own adventure. You also see in the distance a motorcycle taxi very popular in the area. Let's follow the route to Otilia.

Sloths sleep for up to 20 hours a day, and their seemingly calm, docile personalities make them easy to capture, transport, and handle. The stress of these experiences can lead to their premature deaths. The loggers sold the sloth for $13 at a market in the port town of Iquitos, known as a hotspot for the illegal wildlife trade. The sloth was likely sold into either the pet trade, or the tourism selfie trade.

River turns orange in Russia
In the town of Sibay, the republic of Bashkortostan, the water in the small Karagaily river has turned orange. Several days ago, the authorities flooded the abandoned copper ore open-pit mine of the Uchalinsky mining factory, which had been the source of heavy smog in the area for a long period of time.
Local activist Diana Demidova published a video of several children playing on the bank of the small river, the water in which does look orange.
According to the activist, the Uchalinsky mining and processing plant has been polluting the river for the last four years. The pollution has killed all fish species in the river, the woman said.
Together with other activists, Demidova turned to the territorial committee of the Ministry of Ecology of Bashkortostan.
