TOUR of TASMANIA - BEACHES, WILDLIFE SANCTUARY, and PORT ARTHUR #travelvlog
We are going down under to Tasmania, an island off the coast of mainland Australia of extraordinary natural beauty and wilderness. Tasmania has turquoise beaches that look like the Caribbean and rugged fairytale landscapes.
First, we check out the beaches in the Freycinet National Park. Three of our favorites are the Crescent Beach, Wineglass bay and Honeymoon Bay with crystal clear water.
Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary - Located 30 min north of Hobart and is home to a variety of Aussie critters, including the Tasmanian Devil.
Tasmanian Devil is a marsupial, once present on the Australian mainland and is now restricted to Tasmania. It eats wallabies, birds, and reptiles and active mainly at twilight. Feisty yet cuddly.
Tasmanian Peninsula - We step back in time at Port Arthur Historic Site 19th Century when 12,000 convicts were sent here. It was once of the most brutal penal settlement in the British Empire, and only the hardened criminals were sent here. Port Arthur includes a 40 Minute walking tour and harbor cruise.
Facts about Tasmania: It has the cleanest air in the world due to its strong westerly winds. It was first discovered in 1642 by Abel Tasman, a Dutch explorer, although Aboriginal people have lived here for at least 35,000 years. Over 20% of Tasmania is Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area, meaning it is very untouched and unspoiled, and much of the island is accessible only by foot!

Waterfalls & Wonderment | Mt Field National Park, Tasmania
Tasmania is renowned for it’s largely untouched landscapes and it’s countless national parks (nearly each one heritage listed). For those reasons alone, it’s only natural that a visit to the island state involves plenty of time exploring the outdoors!
On our way from Hobart to Lake St Claire, we took a little detour and stopped at Mt Field National Park. A little over an hour outside of the city, Mt Field is a rather incredible place.

Tasmania Part 1 by The Australian Tourist
Tasmania is the only island state in Australia positioned at the bottom of the country south of Melbourne. Simply put Tasmania is a haven for Tourists. We were able to travel around in a Tasmanian camper which gave us the added benefit of having our transport, accommodation & cooking all in one. Tasmania is approximately 300km from north to south & east to west so you are going to need some transport, if you want to take full advantage of all that the island has to offer. Along our travels we saw an extreme number or bike riders peddling their way around Tasmania, after chatting with them they stated it was such a great place to cycle around as the towns aren't too far from each other. For those who don't want to brave the roads on a bike there are almost more campers then people available and every where you go there are caravan parks or hidden little places to park on the side of the road (you didn't hear that part from me). The scenery is incredible and there is great variety from the east to the west and the north to the south.
You can't go to Tasmania with out seeing the Tasmanian Devil or even try find the thought to be extinct Tasmanian Tiger. If your lucky enough you may spot a Tasmanian Devil in the wild but there are several wild life parks such as East Coast Nature World that you can get up close and take picture of the little devils.
Tasmania has a detailed history of convict life with one of the best places to see first hand, buildings and living conditions of the early convicts & settlers is at Port Arthur. Not far from Port Arthur are incredible cliffs with ocean caves, arches and natural stone structures. It may very well be worth while taking one of the many boat tours to show you around these areas.
As you travel around Tasmania you'll see many different types of farms including some famous vineyards that are well worth a stop.
Hobart has plenty to offer besides being a city & offering all the comforts of the city it also has the incredible Mt Wellington towering over it. Please don't go to Hobart with out the drive up Mt Wellington.
Tourism & travel in Tasmania is world class, if you live in Australia it's only a cheap flight away.
A special thanks to the Team at Tasmania Campers/ Devil Campers & East Coast Nature World for making our experience unforgettable, if you ever get the chance to talk with these great people let them know The Australian Tourist says hi.
A huge thanks to Allan Wolf & son from Stanley (The Nut) for the interview.
Tasmania Top 10 things to do & see
These are the absolute highlights for a visit to Tasmania, Australia. The island of Tasmania is located 250 km south of the mainland of Australia and can be reached by boat or airplane. It is named after the Dutch explorer Abel Tasman. The island has a population of about 500.000 and the capital is Hobart.
1. Cradle Mountain - surrounded by glacial lakes, ancient rainforest, and unusual alpine vegetation. From here you can start the Overland Track.
2. Bay of Fires - Fabulously coloured stones in this Bay, but the name of the bay comes from the many fires of Tasmanian Aboriginals that were seen by Thomas Furneaux in 1773.
3. Maria Island - The island is shaped like a number eight and is completely protected as a national park. You can enjoy the fossilated cliffs and the painted cliffs at low tide
4. Wineglass Bay - Freycinet National park harvests the perfectly curved Wineglass Bay
5. Launceston - The largest single span chairlift over the fabulous Cataract Gorge
6. South West National Park - Tasmania's largest national park harvests wild rivers and rugged mountains. It is very desolate, so bring all your supplies with you.
7. Port Arthur Historic Site - Marvel at the spooky ruins and restored homes where many convicts were being punished from the prison's establishment in1830 until its closure in 1877
8. Remarkable Cave - This cave is really remarkable. At low tide you can walk through the cave, but at high tide you have to avoid the big waves
9. Penguin - watching penguins come ashore on the north coast of Tasmania
10. Hobart - Panoramic views from Mount Wellington to Bruny Island, South Arm and the Tasman Peninsula

Freycinet National Park, Tasmania
Freycinet National Park is on the East Coast of Tasmania. Freycinet National Park consists of knuckles of granite mountains all but surrounded by azure bays and white sand beaches. The dramatic peaks of the Hazards welcome you as you enter the park. The Park was named after its founder, Louis de Freycinet.
Freycinet National Park offers a wide variety of activities. Take a walk to the pass overlooking the perfectly shaped Wineglass Bay or try less strenuous activities like beach strolls, swimming or wildlife spotting.
Freycinet has stunning scenery - from the peaks of The Hazards of Coles Bay to the wonderful crescent of Wineglass Bay, Freycinet is a fascinating and breathtaking experience - one not to be missed on a visit to Tasmania.
You will be sharing the park with wonderful plants; and animals like wallabies. Feeding of animals in the park is strictly prohibited, and is unhealthy for the animals. Fines will be imposed if you are caught feeding animals. Rangers are on patrol around the park.
The climate in Freycinet is like most of Tasmania - relatively cool all year round. As it is windy, bringing an umbrella is not practical. Be prepared for all kinds of weather, though.
Freycinet National Park is about 2.5 hours to 3 hours drive from either Hobart or Launceston. When driving from dusk to dawn, do take care as you are sharing the road with wildlife. Drive cautiously and keep a lookout for wallabies and wombats. An advisory speed limit of 60 km/h applies on the roads to and from the park after dark because of the risk of hitting wildlife.
You need a permit for all of Tasmania's National Parks. They can be bought at the national park visitor centre at the park entrance, and there are several different options from a day pass for just this one national park to a pass that is valid for an entire year and includes all National Parks of Tasmania.

Mystery of Tasmania Island - HD Documentary 2017 #Advexon
Tasmania, formerly Van Diemen’s Land, island state of Australia. It lies about 150 miles (240 km) south of the state of Victoria, from which it is separated by the relatively shallow Bass Strait. Structurally, Tasmania constitutes a southern extension of the Great Dividing Range. The state comprises a main island called Tasmania; Bruny Island, nestling close to the southeastern coast of the main island; King and Flinders islands in Bass Strait; numerous smaller islands off the coast of the main island; and subantarctic Macquarie Island, about 900 miles (1,450 km) to the southeast. The main island is roughly heart-shaped, with a maximum length and width of about 200 miles (320 km), and its latitude and climate are broadly comparable to those of northern California and northwestern Spain. With an area slightly larger than that of Sri Lanka, Tasmania is the smallest of Australia’s states. Hobart is the state capital.
The state owes its name to the Dutch navigator-explorer Abel Janszoon Tasman, who in 1642 became the first European to discover the island. Until 1856, however, the island was known as Van Diemen’s Land, named for Anthony van Diemen, the governor of the Dutch East Indies who had sent Tasman on his voyage of exploration. The island of Tasmania contains some of the most spectacular mountain, lake, and coastal scenery in the country, and much of its land is protected in national parks and reserves. The state also produces a major portion of Australia’s hydroelectric power and possesses a great diversity of natural resources. Nevertheless, Tasmania has remained among the poorest of Australia’s states, with a steadily decreasing share of the country’s population. Although insularity renders much of its political, economic, and social life distinctive, proximity to Melbourne and air travel make Tasmania less isolated and more cosmopolitan than is often assumed in other Australian states. Area 26,410 square miles (68,401 square km). Population (2011) 495,354.
Soils
Most Tasmanian soils are leached, acidic, poorly drained, high in humus, and low in fertility. Least fertile and most extensive are the soils of the west and northeast, especially the moor peats. Fertile areas occur extensively in the northwest and locally elsewhere, notably in the northeast and southeast. Brown earths occupy the drier areas east of the Central Plateau; black earths, the southeast; and alluvial soils, the narrow valley floors to the east. Other fertile soils are those of former swamps in the far northwest and the Bass Strait islands.

Tasmania, located in the midlatitude westerly wind belt and dominated by southern maritime air masses, generally enjoys a moist, equable climate, with mild to warm summers, mild winters in most settled areas, and rain during all seasons. However, the southwest has much rugged weather, and the southeast can suffer drought. Collision between tropical air masses—in summer from the continent and in spring and autumn from the eastern Tasmanian coast—and the mountainous surface results in greater climatic variety than in other parts of Australia. Annual precipitation, seasonal moisture deficiencies, and temperatures range widely and irregularly across the state. Average annual precipitation exceeds 100 inches (2,500 mm) on the western ranges and declines eastward to less than 20 inches (510 mm) in some places; along the north coast it exceeds 30 inches (760 mm) in all locations. The seasonal incidence in the north and west is greatest in winter, and in the south and east it is greatest in spring. Summer rainfall may vary markedly from year to year, especially in the drier east. Mean January temperatures are higher in the north and east than elsewhere, reaching 64 °F (18 °C) at Launceston; mean July temperatures are 46 to 49 °F (8 tο 9 °C) in all coastal stations, declining sharply with elevation.

Bicheno Tasmania
Bicheno is located (182 km) north-east of Hobart a family seaside holiday town with lots to see and do, good accommodation, excellent fishing and close to wildlife.
Located north of the Freycinet Peninsula, Bicheno sits on Tasmania's beautiful East Coast. Offshore, the Governor Island Marine Reserve has some of the best diving spots in Australia, with kelp-covered reefs and spectacular sponge gardens. This water wonderland can also be experienced by kayak or glass-bottomed boat.
There's plenty to do on dry land as well, with popular penguin tours and scenic walks to Rocking Rock, the blowhole and along the sandbar to Diamond Island Nature Reserve. The local wildlife park also has lots of animals to meet up close, including kangaroos, Tasmanian devils and pelicans. More natural wonders can be found at the nearby Douglas-Apsley and Freycinet National Parks.
Other things to do in Bicheno include deep sea fishing, motor tricycle tours and a Grape Escape wine tour of the local coastal wineries. For foodies, there's a bounty of fresh seafood in this fishing town, from crayfish, abalone to delicious Australian salmon.
