Some 1,600 islands, thick with greenery, form a maze of channels in the azure waters off northeastern Vietnam. Although people have lived in the region of Ha Long Bay for thousands of years, most of the islands remain uninhabited. But these coves and natural towers are rich with wildlife. For centuries, this spectacular seascape has inspired wonder.
The name Ha Long, Vietnamese for “descending dragon,” is reflected in a legend: Once, when the Viet people faced invasion, a dragon flew down from heaven to their defense. The creature sprayed not only fire, but also jewels that became the green archipelago.
The scientific explanation for the rock formations, known as karst, is also amazing. For millions of years, seashells and sediments fell to an ancient seafloor, forming solid rock. Tectonic activity raised the resulting limestone above water. Rainfall and rivers dissolved exposed rock, and carved valleys that flooded after the last ice age, creating this rare example of a karst field at sea.
Features include lakes and caves through the islands, and notches and tunnels where seawater has worn at the pillars' foundations. The fantastic landscape also continues into two adjacent national parks, on Cat Ba Island and Bai Tu Long Bay.
You can go kayaking, caving, or even take a ride in a seaplane to experience the grandeur of these enchanting tropical islands.

Wildlife Adventure Vlog Cat Tien Vietnam
This is a vlog of my visit to Cat Tien Naional Park in southern Vietnam from my trip to Vietnam in March of 2018. The park is amazing, with gorgeous views, exotic wildlife, and immense biodiversity. I highly suggest that you go to Cat Tien if you are a birder. Some of the wildlife I saw was Great Hornbill, White-rumped Shama, Siamese Firebacks, Long-tailed Macaque, and crocodiles. I saw all this wildlife while walking and biking around the park on my own and also while on a birding tour with an excellent bird guide named Trong.
Hopefully after watching this video you will be inspired to travel to Vietnam and come to Cat Tien. Vietnam in general is an amazing place for travel for its cheap prices and rich culture, but for a wildlife fanatic it is especially interesting because of the diversity of tropical animals you can see. Throughout the video, I give tips on how to enhance your experience while looking for wildlife at Cat Tien, so be sure to watch until the end!
This channel is for people of all ages who are passionate about exploring nature, viewing wildlife, and learning about the environment. My name is Eddie and I'm a 28-year-old wildlife biologist from California. I have an MSc in Ecology and have been to four continents to seek and study wildlife. I hope to inspire naturalists by providing content that everyday people can use to enhance their experience observing nature in the field. Nature activities I cover are birdwatching, herping, wildlife photography, snorkeling/scuba diving, hiking, ecotourism-travel, and much more. This includes app and gear reviews, tips for spotting and identifying wildlife, travel guides for wildlife tourism, and fun lessons about natural history, ecology, and conservation. Vietnam is a country rich in history, heritage and diversity -- both in the ethnicity of its people and in the variation of its scenery. From the rice paddies and small canals of the southern Mekong Delta to the tribal villages of the northern and central highlands to the bustle of its modern cities, Vietnam is a surprise and a delight to the first time visitor.

How to go to Halong Bay Vietnam | Travel guide | Episode 2
How to go to Halong Bay Vietnam. This is Day 1 part 1 of my trip to Halong Bay, Vietnam. The movie Kong Skull Island was shot there.
You have the option to visit Halong Bay in a single day OR to go for a 2 days cruise, which mean you will sleep in the boat.
You can book a cruise on Halong Bay from any tourism offices or directly online from one of the numerous boat companies. If you stay in Hanoi, a bus will pick you up early in the morning at your hotel and will take you to Halong Bay. You cannot get lost since there is always a guide with you. The ride is usually included in the package. From there a small boat will take you to a bigger boat where you will spend two amazing days. Once on the boat, you will start the trip with a delicious Vietnamese 5 course meal. The food is usually included in the package, except for the drinks. After lunch and while the boat is leaving the harbour, a member of the staff will show you your room. After that you have some free time to chill on the upper deck of the boat and enjoy the beautiful view of Halong Bay.
Hạ Long Bay is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and popular travel destination in Quảng Ninh Province, Vietnam. The bay features thousands of limestone karsts and isles in various shapes and sizes.
Hạ Long Bay has an area of around 1,553 km2, including 1,960–2,000 islets, most of which are limestone.
Around 4pm the boat will stop in a pearl oyster farm where you will have the chance to see how pearls are made. You can also buy pearls, they built a shop on water....
At 7:30pm a delicious dinner will be served on the boat. After that you can either chill in the lounge (with weak wifi) or go for squid fishing from the front deck, the boat will provide the equipment. Note that the sunset is absolutely fantastic!
Some boat companies are dedicated for party animals with music and djs onboard. The boat I chose was more of a family type so I slept early. The bed rooms are quiet nice, all made of wood, with bathrooms and nice ocean views.
The breakfast is served at 7:30am. While you're eating the boat will take you to another part of the bay where you can visit the Sung Sot cave. After that, it will time to pack as the boat will slowly return to the harbour where a bus will be waiting for you and take you back to your hotel in Hanoi.

Ha Long Bay (literally: Descending Dragon bay; Vietnamese: Vịnh Hạ Long) is a UNESCO World Heritage site located in Quảng Ninh province, Vietnam. Administratively, the bay belongs to Ha Long City, Cam Pha Town and part of Van Don District. The bay features thousands of limestone karsts and isles in various sizes and shapes. Ha Long Bay is a center of a larger zone which includes Bái Tử Long bay to the northeast, and Cát Bà islands to the southwest. These larger zones share similar geological, geographical, geomorphological, climate and cultural characters. Ha Long Bay has an area of around 1,553 km², incuding 1,960 islets, most of which are limestone. The core of the bay has an area of 334 km² with a high density of 775 islets.[1] The limestone in this bay has gone through 500 million years of formation in different conditions and environments. The evolution of the karst in this bay has taken 20 million years under the impact of the tropical wet climate.[2] The diversity of the enivironment, climate, geology, geography, and geomorphology in the area have created biodiversity, including tropical evergreen biosystem, oceanic and sea shore biosystem.[3] Ha Long Bay is home to 14 endemic floral species[4] and 60 endemic faunal species.[5]
Historical research surveys have shown the presence of prehistorical human beings in this area ten of thousands years ago. The successive ancient cultures are the Soi Nhụ Culture around 18,000-7,000 BC, the Cái Bèo Culture 7,000-5,000 BC[6] and the Hạ Long Culture 3,500-5,000 years ago.[7] Ha Long Bay also marked important events in the history of Vietnam with many artifacts found in Bài Thơ Mout, Đầu Gỗ Cave, Bãi Cháy.[7]
Nowadays, Ha Long Bay is one of the most popular travel destinations in Vietnam.
500 years ago, Nguyen Trai praised the beauty of Ha Long Bay in his verse Lộ nhập Vân Đồn, in which he called it rock wonder in the sky.[8] In 1962 the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam listed Ha Long Bay in the National Relics and Landscapes.[9] In 1994 the core zone of Ha Long Bay was listed by UNESCO in its World Heritage Sites according to criteria vii and listed for a second time according to criteria viii.[10] Together with Nha Trang Bay and Lang Co of Việt Nam, Hạ Long Bay is recognized as one of the 33 most beautiful bays of the world.[11]
The bay consists of a dense cluster of 1,969 limestone monolithic islands, each topped with thick jungle vegetation, which rise spectacularly from the ocean. Several of the islands are hollow, with enormous caves. Hang Đầu Gỗ (Wooden stakes Cave) is the largest grotto in the Ha Long area. French tourists visited in the late 19th century, and named the cave Grotte des Merveilles. Its three large chambers contain large numerous stalactites and stalagmites (as well as 19th century French graffiti). There are two bigger islands, Tuần Châu and Cat Ba, that have permanent inhabitants. Both of them have tourist facilities, including hotels and beaches. There are a number of wonderful beaches on the smaller islands.
Some of the islands support floating villages of fishermen, who ply the shallow waters for 200 species of fish and 450 different kinds of mollusks. Many of the islands have acquired their names as a result of interpretation of their unusual shapes: such names include Voi Islet (elephant), Ga Choi Islet (fighting cock), and Mai Nha Islet (roof). 989 of the islands have been given names. Birds and animals including bantams, antelopes, monkeys, and lizards also live on some of the islands.
Almost these islands are individual towers in a classic fenglin lanscape which height is from 50m to 100m and height/width ratios up to about 6.
Another specific feature of Halong Bay is the abundance of lakes inside the limestone islands, for example, Dau Be island has six enclosed lakes. All these island lakes occupy drowned dolines within fengcong karst.

BIRDS reserve heaven in Vietnam - Gift for traveller and nature lover
Thung Nham (Nham Valley) eco-tourism zone is located in Hoa Lu District, 12km south of Ninh Binh City. After a three-hour drive from Ha Noi, the gate of Thung Nham comes into our view. Visit Thung Nham was in summer and spring, when the birds are busy building nests and breeding.
Thung Nham Birds Park houses more than 40 species of birds, some of them named in the Red List of Threatened Species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources.
The site has a rich ecosystem, including more than 100 flora and 150 fauna species. We ride the boat into the mangroves and are delighted when Cong shows us nests with many little eggs. Then he helps us identify the different birds and tells us their habits. Our children are excited because this is the first time they have had such a real lesson in biology.
FYI:Especially, going to Thung Chim, tourists have a chance to explore the wildlife of nearly 40 species of birds with its number of up to 50,000. It is also an important nesting habitat for many species of waterfowl, for instance, storks, herons, cauldrons, soil eagles and many other species of birds. The timing of these birds inhabiting most is from May to July annually. Notably, sunset here is the most crowded, busiest moment of the day. Flocks of birds concentrate Thung Nham as their shelter after a foraging day. They fulfill the wetlands, forming the vivid and colorful picture. This is the typical characteristic in the beauty of Thung Nham that nowhere can be found, which creates the highlight of Thung Nham in Ninh Binh tours.

Ha Long Bay Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Ha Long Bay.
South of the Vietnamese capital of Hano in the Gulf Of Tongking there is a large bay with more than sixteen hundred islands, the Bay Of Ha Long. The rich vegetation that covers the rocks acts as both a shelter and a home for a great variety of wildlife including forty species of bird and eight varieties of reptile. The strangely formed islands attract biologists from all over the world and their is also worth a mention. The latest Stone Age discoveries date back more than eight thousand years and it is believed that the region was inhabited around twenty five thousand years ago.The region's bizarrely formed rocks fired the imagination of those who lived here in ancient times and several of the islands have colourful names most of which were inspired by the animal kingdom such as Camel Island and Turtle Island plus the historic Driftwood Grotto. The fifteen hundred square kilometres of the Bay Of Ha Long are one of the most impressive locations in the whole of South East Asia, a place of total beauty and one of the world's great natural wonders.

Halong bay, Vietnam most beautiful bay on earth!!-7 Natural wonders
The bay was World's Natural Heritage listed by UNESCO at the 18th meeting of the Committee of the World Heritages of UNESCO (in Phuket, Thailand on December 17th, 1994) for its outstanding universal aesthetic value according to the criteria explained in the Operational Guidelines for the Implementation of the World Heritage Convention. On December 2nd, 2000 at the 24th meeting of Committee of the World Heritages in Cairns, Australia, Ha Long Bay was admitted as a World Heritage Site for its outstanding geological and geomorphological value according to the criteria of that Convention.[1]
Ha Long Bay was introduced to nominate by New Open World Foundation as World's 7 Natural Wonder. Local legend says that long ago when the Vietnamese were fighting Chinese invaders, the gods sent a family of dragons to help defend the land. This family of dragons began spitting out jewels and jade. These jewels turned into the islands and islets dotting the bay, linking together to form a great wall against the invaders. The people kept their land safe and formed what later became the country of Vietnam. After that, dragons were interested in peaceful sightseeing of the Earth and decided to live here then. The place where Mother Dragon flew down was named Hạ Long, the place where the dragon children attended upon their mother was called Bái Tử Long island (Bái: attend upon, Tử: children, Long: dragon), and the place where the dragon children wriggled their tails violently was called Bạch Long Vỹ island (Bạch: white- colour of the foam made when Children Dragon wriggle, Long: dragon, Vỹ: tail).
The most beautiful place in Ninh Binh Vietnam - Van Long Nature Reserve
We spent 5 amazing days in Ninh Binh and found one of the most beautiful places we have ever come across. So much peacefulness and tranquility, Ninh Binh was spectacular in our eyes.
For our first stop, we visited Cuc Phuong National Park located in Ninh Binh province. Here we checked out a monkey and turtle rescue center to learn all about the animals from our guide that worked at the rescue center.
Cuc Phuong National Park - Endangered Primate Rescue Center
Address: đường rừng Cúc Phương, Cúc Phương, Nho Quan, Ninh Bình, Vietnam
Hours: Monday - Sunday 8:30–11:30am, 1:30–4:30pm
We then set out to go on a hike to visit a 1,000 year old ancient tree although only one of us makes the journey!
Address: Nho Quan District, Ninh Bình Province 432857, Vietnam
Hours: Monday - Sunday 8am–6pm
So where is the most beautiful place in Ninh Binh, Vietnam? We reckon it's Van Long Nature Reserve. We sat in awe during what we felt was the most beautiful destination of our entire Vietnam trip. Van Long Wetland Nature Reserve was more peaceful than the already awesome Trang An but with the same special breath taking beauty and more wildlife. Van Long was a simply magical destination and a must visit in Ninh Binh, Vietnam.
The next day we headed over to the more touristy area Tam Coc and opted to skip the rowboat ride there since we heard it was less enjoyable from a few sources including our own tour guide consultant.
Instead we had lunch at a popular lunch spot - Family Restaurant to get some energy for our final adventure (Thung Nam Bird Park).
Family Restaurant
Address: Ninh Hải, Hoa Lư District, Ninh Bình Province 43000, Vietnam
Hours: Monday - Sunday 8am–12am
For our final destination we headed over to Thung Nham Bird Park. Entry prices were a little steep comparatively to other tourist activities at 200,000 vietnamese dong however the bird park was very large and well kept. Definitely recommend taking a bicycle over there rather than a scooter so you can cycle around Thung Nham Bird Park and enjoy exploring the sights. Scooters have to be left at the entrance but bicycles can go inside the park.
Thung Nham Bird Park
Address: Thôn Hải Nham, Hoa Lư District, Ninh Bình Province, Vietnam
Hours: Monday - Sunday 7am–6pm
