So Sri lankaa ???????? (Colombo, Habarana, Sigiriya, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Bentota, Beruwala and Galle)
Hello guys, I know it's been a really long break from editing but I am back with another travel video and this time we kicked off 2019 with a trip to Sri Lanka!
Alot of temples, sweaty treks, waterfalls and breathtaking beaches.
If you liked the video, you know the drill!
If you are travelling to Sri Lanka any time soon, down below i have given a brief description about my trip and therefore head start to plan your trip.
So we boarded from Delhi and it took us roughly 4 hours to reach Colombo. Through out this trip, we will be covering 6 major cities of Sri Lanka.
So we hired a minibus from Colombo and travelled to Habarana, which is a 3-hour drive. Habarana is famous for its elephant safari and open grasslands.
Maintain silence when inside the park as there have been incidents where the elephants charge on the jeeps due to annoyance.
We travelled a month later to the terrorist attacks, so apparently, the tourism sector went down and we got personalised services all the time. Plus point!
From Habarana, we started early for the UNESCO World Heritage site, The Sigiriya Rock. It is also considered to be the 8th wonder of the world and the view astonished me with the unique harmony between nature and human imagination. I’ll advise you to hire a local guide to know more about the systematically planned architecture. It is a must visit if you are in Sri Lanka.
The guide also told us there is a long queue for the trek during the peak season, so be well before time.
Next stop was Kandy, which is the hill capital of Sri Lanka. It is a small town situated amidst the hills. The weather was chilly so carry your fleece.
In Kandy, visit the famous temple of the ancient tooth relic, situated in the Royal Complex of the former kingdom of Kandy!
It's a Buddhist temple, so make sure you are covered entirely.
You should visit the local sweet vendors and try their authentic Lankan sweets!
Next in line is Nuwara Eliya, which is apparently is the place where Seeta Maa was held in captivatio also known Ashoka Vatika.. Nuwara Eliya is a hill station so the temperature drops significantly. Do carry warm clothes.
Make sure you visit Lake Gregory, which is the heart of the tea country hill city. It is famous for its tea plantations, so don’t forget to spill some tea, sis.
Shoutout to Indian summer for serving us the best Indian food in Lanka, situated right next to the lake in Nuwara Eliya.
On our way to Nuwara Eliya, we stopped to see the Ramboda waterfall surrounded by the tea plantations.
One can take a quick break, and enjoy the view with some good tea and snacks!
Onto my favourite city, Beruwala has the most chill vibe and one can enjoy water sports and snorkel out there!
We relaxed at the beach and spent the majority of the time in the pool!
Next day, we visited the city of Galle which was a Portuguese town. It has a beautiful aesthetic vibe to it and don’t forget to get clicked near the lighthouse.
Do visit the mama’s cafe, which is the original cafe of a very famous cafe chain in Sri Lanka.
Galle has very vintage shops, so one can buy antiques from there.
One can also visit Mirrisa, for the blue whale sightings in the Indian Ocean. But it’s risky when its raining and the sea is rough.
On our way back we stopped at Bentota for the river safari, which was sad so you can skip it. I’ll advise you to spend your time at the beach, and watch the sun go down.
The last day we planned to visit, Colombo, where one can do a day tour and visit the Odel mall for souvenirs.
Sri Lanka is a small and beautiful place to visit. Don’t forget to drink there most special coconut water.
Also be careful with the spices, because they have their meals cooked in a lot of spices.

A warm welcome awaits visitors to the captivating island of Sri Lanka. Nestled in the Indian Ocean, it boasts a unique combination of dramatic and diverse scenery and a distinctive history and heritage. ME 12

So much to say about this underrated & unbelievably beautiful Country, Sri Lanka truly is like nowhere else...
I began in Negombo, as its closest to the airport. Negombo isnt particularly the most exciting place in Sri Lanka, however it does offer a wide range of accommodations & restaurants to help start the trip. Many small supermarkets, local stalls, a few temples, restaurants & of course my highlight which was the old fish market, which is along side the beach offering local food, groceries, clothing & gifts. Colombo is just south of Negombo, it is also the largest city in Sri Lanka however not the most exciting.
Negombo Highlights:
-Fish Market
-Dutch Fort
-Few Temples
-Beaches
Day two: I headed east to Dambulla, were I stayed in a glamping resort which was a fantastic experience. Highlights in Dambulla was the scenic Sigiriya Rock Fortress, followed by an unforgettable authentic local village experience.
Dambulla Highlight:
-Sigiriya Rock Fortress
-Local Village Experience
Heading south of Dumbulla towards Kandy, stopping at a spice garden then onto the Temple of the Tooth. Both a must do when visiting Dambulla.
Possibly one of my favourite experiences on this trip, exploring the stunning green tea plantations, learning how to pick and operate Sri Lanka's largest export. Then onto one of the World's most scenic Train experience, exceeded all expectations & truly was unforgettable, a must do when visiting Sri Lanka.
I'd say Ella & Mirissa is where you'd want to allocate most of your time. So much to see & do, obviously much more touristy than Negombo & Dambulla as it has the main sites which are centrally located.
Next up was a beautiful and surprisingly easy hike. Little Adams Peak. 10 minutes from Ella township, offers an unbelievably beautiful view of the surrounding mountains, free entrance and isnt a difficult hike. Takes 30 minutes and you'll only need an hour at most on the top.
They also offer zip lining & archery on the way up. Yet another amazing experience, the Nine Arches Bridge. Very touristy but for a great reason, again only a short walk from Ella town centre. Something to take into account is the timing of when the trains will go past. The trains in Sri Lanka are unpredictable and almost always late, they don't operate frequently so either time your visit or stay for a long time and get that perfect picture. Leaving Ella, passing through a beautiful waterfall and also enjoying the amazing surrounding scenery.
Fun fact, Sri Lanka offers the second best Safari in the world, just under Africa..
And yes, truly a unforgettable experience, seeing Elephants, water buffalo's, countless birds and many more other beautiful animals in there natural habbitate.
Making my way to Tallala where I stayed in a Eco retreat which offered such a comfortable, clean and exciting resort.
Spent the day enjoying the warm weather by the pool, then the beach followed by a relaxing & mindful yoga session.
Heading to the vibrate Mirissa, aka the best beaches in Sri Lanka. Offering such amazing vibes, waves and experiences.
Managed to catch 3 waves in a short, with an amazing surfing lesson on Welligama Beach.
Saving the best for last, something possibly a little difficult to come by, but managed to spend a memorable morning with young monks, learning about their beliefs, routine and lifestyle. We spoke, laughed and taught each another our languages.
So, that was all within 11 days..
Managed to experience so much of the rich culture Sri Lanka offers within such a short time frame. Friendly faces everywhere I went, safe, positive vibes and unforgettable experiences. Sri Lanka truly is a Country worth visiting, it is very accommodating for all culture's & tourist, budget friendly and honestly has so much to offer.

Wilpattu National Park, Sri Lanka. | විල්පත්තු ජාතික උද්යානය

Around the World - Episode 16 | Wilpattu National Park, Sri Lanka. | විල්පත්තු ජාතික උද්යානය
Wilpattu National Park is the largest and one of the oldest national parks located in Sri Lanka. It is located 30 km west Anuradhapura and located 26 km north of Puttalam (approximately 180 km north of Colombo). In 1905 the area was designated a sanctuary and in 1938 it was upgraded to the National Park status.
The unique feature of this park is the existence of Willus (Natural lakes) - Natural, sand-rimmed water basins or depressions that fill with rainwater. Nearly sixty lakes (Willu) and tanks are found spread throughout Wilpattu. Hence, the name “Willu-pattu” (Land of Lakes) has been used, which finally has turned to Wilpattu.
Wilpattu is in the Northwest coast lowland dry zone of Sri Lanka spreading over 1,317 square kilometers across North-Eastern and North-Central Provinces. The elevation ranges from 0 to 152 meters above sea level. The annual rainfall is about 1000mm and the annual temperature is about 27.2 degrees. Inter-monsoonal rains in March and the northeast monsoon (December – February) are the main sources of rainfall.
The crown jewel of Wilpattu is its abundance of the leopard (Panthera pardus kotiya) population, which is an endangered species. Recent studies suggest that there could be over 100 leopards living within Wilpattu.
Apart from that, around 30 species of mammals have been identified within Wilpattu national park. Among them, elephant (Elephas maximus maximus), sloth bear (Melursus ursinus inornatus), water buffalo (Bubalus bubalis), sambhur (Rusa unicolor unicolor), spotted deer (Axis axis ceylonensis) and barking deer (Muntiacus muntjak malabaricus) are prominent.
Wilpattu is the home for numerous bird and reptile species. Specially due to its abundance of lakes and tanks, this park has become a haven for migratory birds.
Apart from the ecological importance of Wilpattu, there is a high archaeological value as well. There are many locations which relate to Princess Kuweni (c. 6th century BC). Certain ruins are still visible.
Wilpattu has a geological significance as well due to its evidence of some unique rock formations closer to Kudiramalai beach, which leads to the speculations that this could very well be a meteor impact site millions of years ago.
Department of Wildlife maintains more than 10 bungalows and campsites within the park, which can be reserved online for a reasonable price.
