A Journey Through Mongolia (Full Length Documentary)
Mongolia! A Journey through Mongolia is a travel documentary from our one month trip through the great expanses of the Mongolian plains.
We started the trip with a few days in Ulaanbaatar to experience the sprawling metropolis. We also had a chance to go to Hustai National Park not far from UB to see the last remaining wild horse, the Takhi. Then we went on a ten day adventure to go live with the Tsaatan Reindeer Herder tribe in the very north on the border of Siberia. This was an incredible experience and it was very demanding with multiple days on horseback after a long strenuous multi-day 4WD trip. After a short recovery we went to the eastern part of the country to the Bayan-Ölgii Province to attend the Golden Eagle Festival. This festival has really been the focus of the Mongolian travel in recent time, very much because of Aishol-pan the Eagle Huntress. We had a chance to meet this incredible girl who is certainly an inspiration to women across the world. After the festival we went and lived with an eagle hunter family deep in the Altai Mountain Range.

altai mountains in Mongolia
The Altai Mountains (Russian: Алтай, Altay; Mongolian: Алтай) are a mountain range in central Asia, where Russia, China, Mongolia and Kazakhstan come together, and where the rivers Irtysh and Ob have their sources. The Altai Mountains are known as the Turkic peoples' birthplace. The northwest end of the range is at 52° N and between 84° and 90° E (where it merges with the Sayan Mountains to the east), and extends southeast from there to about 45°N 99°E / 45°N 99°E / 45; 99Coordinates: 45°N 99°E / 45°N 99°E / 45; 99, where it gradually becomes lower and merges into the high plateau of the Gobi Desert.
The name, in Turkic Alytau or Altai, means Al (gold), tau (mount); in Mongolian Алтайн нуруу Altain nuruu, the Mountains of Gold. The proposed Altaic language family takes its name from the mountain range.

__________
Sprawled across the mountain system where Russia, Kazakhstan, China and Mongolia come together is a vast and pristine wild land, the Altai-Sayan Ecoregion, a distinct territory defined by natural processes rather than political ones. Its borders are ecological, and its provinces are interconnected habitats.
Tusker is one of a handful of companies that trek the entire length of the Altai Tavn Bogd National Park, which occupies the Mongolian part of the Altai-Sayan Ecoregion.
During our trek, which you can do on foot or on horseback, we traverse many of the rivers, and camp every night on either the banks of these rivers or the shores of the lakes fed by them.
The Khovd River, which has its genesis in the glaciers of Mongolia's Altai Tavn Bogd Mountains, flows into the Great Lakes Basin, a depression with no outlet whose lush wetlands comprise the last great reed beds of central Asia.
On this unique trek, you experience the wilderness of Mongolia, and wilderness at it's finest, in all of its raw, pristine beauty.

Mount Mongolia Trek Lodging Accomodations:
While trekking through Mongolia's tough terrain, it's imperative that we use the absolute best tents available. For sleeping we use Eureka's 4-season K2XT all-weather tent. We have tested these tents under the harshest conditions, and they stand up to all the punishment we can muster.
Our dining tents also are built to the same tough standards, and sit 16 of us in comfortable chairs around large camp tables. That is if we're not dining al fresco, in the open air.

Hustai National Park, Tov, Mongolia, Asia
Khustain Nuruu National Park, located in Tov Province (Aimag), is a national park of Mongolia. It is also known as Hustai National Park. The Tuul River runs through the park. The Mongolian Government declared Hustai National Park as a Specially Protected Area in 1993, one year after the initiation of the reintroduction project of the Takhi(Przewalskii horse) to the Hustain Nuruu. The HNP extends through the Khentii Mountains and includes the western edge of the Mongolian steppe at the boundaries of Altanbulag, Argalant and Bayankhangai Soums of Tov province. The park is about 100 km from the capital city of Ulaanbaatar to the west. The HNP covers 50,600 ha land which is home to 459 species of vascular plants, 85 species of lichens, 90 species of moss and 33 species of mushrooms. 44 species of mammals have been recorded, including Red deer, Mongolian gazelle, Roe deer, Wild boar, Wild sheep, Ibex, Mongolian marmots, Grey wolves, Lynx, Pallas cat, Red fox, Corsac fox and Eurasian badger. The 217 species of birds include Golden eagle, Lammergeier, Great bustard, Whooper swan, Black stork, Daurian partridge and Little owl. There are 16 species of fish, 2 species of amphibians, and 385 species of insects (including 21 species of ants, 55 species of butterflies, 10 species of bush crickets and 29 species of grasshoppers). A new species of soil insect has been found in the Hustai and given the scientific name of Epidamaeus khustaiensis. In 2002, the Man and the Biosphere Reserves organization of UNESCO certified the HNP as a member of the world biosphere network of natural reserves. The HNPT was enrolled as a member of IUCN in 2007. The HNP is one of the best-managed Specially Protected Areas in Mongolia and was the first park to be managed by a Non-governmental Organization specializing in nature and environmental conservation. The park was managed by the Mongolian Association for the Conservation of Nature and the Environment during 1993-2003. A dedicated NGO, the Hustai National Park Trust (HNPT), was established in 2003 and signed a contract with the Mongolian Government which delegated the management of the HNP to the new NGO.

Birding in Mongolia
In the world of depleting wildlife resources #Mongolia stands out as a unique place with most of its original species preserved to these days. On this tour one can see #Argali – the largest wild sheep, #gazelles, #deer, #marmots and #takhi, the ancestor of the modern horse. The range of available birds is even wider. A pair of good binoculars will come in handy.
