Sigiriya - Beautiful place to visit in Sri Lanka
Sigiriya or Sinhagiri (Lion Rock Sinhalese: සීගිරිය, Tamil: சிகிரியா, pronounced see-gi-ri-yə) is an ancient rock fortress located in the northern Matale District near the town of Dambulla in the Central Province, Sri Lanka. The name refers to a site of historical and archaeological significance that is dominated by a massive column of rock nearly 200 metres (660 ft) high. According to the ancient Sri Lankan chronicle the Culavamsa, this site was selected by King Kasyapa (477 – 495 CE) for his new capital. He built his palace on the top of this rock and decorated its sides with colourful frescoes. On a small plateau about halfway up the side of this rock he built a gateway in the form of an enormous lion. The name of this place is derived from this structure —Sīhāgiri, the Lion Rock. The capital and the royal palace was abandoned after the king's death. It was used as a Buddhist monastery until the 14th century.

Yala National Park - Pride of Sri Lanka
Located 260 km South East of Colombo, Yala is the most popular of the many National Parks of the country. Though the official website of Yala claims that the density of leopards here is the highest in the world, it is not at all easy to sight one. If you are lucky enough, you will be able to see a leopard. There are Sloth Bears also in this park, but we could not see even one during our four full days' safari in the park
Aliya Resort & Spa in Sigiriya, Sri Lanka
'Aliya', meaning elephant in Sinhala, is an apt name for a luxurious resort immersed in lush wilderness where wild elephants roam. Modern minimalism is softened by Sri Lanka’s simple and unhurried rural lifestyle. Enter through a series of steps into a vast, gleaming white lounge and instantly, the mesmerizing views of the infinity pool and the gigantic twin rocks – Pidurangala and Sigiriya – comes into focus. Aliya resort offers luxurious rooms or tents immersed in the wilderness; international as well as traditional Sri Lankan cuisine served at their wattle & daub restaurant overlooking the paddy fields. A Paddy Museum recounts the history of paddy cultivation on the island over 2,500 years. After a long day of sightseeing, relax with an Ayurvedic massage at the tranquil spa. Aliya Resort follows strict eco-friendly policies. Sister property of Maalu Maalu Resort & Spa in Pasikudah on the North East Coast.
Wild Grass Nature Resort at Sigiriya | Hotels in Sri Lanka
#RedDotTours #SriLanka #HotelsSriLanka
Introduction
Wild Grass is a nature lover’s paradise north of Kandalama Lake in the heart of Sri Lanka's cultural triangle. This luxurious eco-retreat is utterly tranquil; life unfolds here at your pace. Wake up to the call of peacock; set off on an adventurous nature trail; have a candlelit dinner enhanced by the sounds of the jungle. Wild Grass is set amidst 30 acres of unfenced wilderness that is frequently visited by rabbits, deer, wild boar and over 40 species of birds. Accommodation is in expansive villas which were built with minimum disturbance to the natural surroundings and spaced out for maximum privacy. An open-sided, two storey pavilion houses the restaurant and lounge, flanked by a large rock on one side and a lake and the magnificent Kandalama hills on the other. A strict nature conservation philosophy is followed here: much is being done to preserve the natural eco-systems, such as organic farming used to cultivate fruit and vegetables for the resort’s cuisine. Considering the distance from the accommodation villas to the main restaurant, Wild Grass is not recommended for those with mobility difficulties.
Accommodation
There are seven individual villas – two family villas that sleep between four to six people and five one bedroom villas for double or triple occupancy. The villas are set about 50 feet apart ensuring complete privacy and are contemporary in design with timber roofs, polished cement floors and glass sliding doors/windows that open out to the wilderness. Each villa consists of a living room with a comfortable sofa, dining room with dining table, spacious a/c bedroom with king-sized bed and bathroom with wash basin, w/c and open-air h/w rain shower. They are comfortably furnished and are equipped with flat-screen TV with satellite channels, tea/coffee facilities, Wi-Fi, IDD telephone, mini-bar, electronic safe, hair dryer and reading material. Board games are available on request. There are two bicycles in each villa for, cycling to the dining pavilion or the nearby village.
One bedroom villas (ranging from 1100 to 1,800 sq ft): Two-storey villas have a lower-level living room and bathroom and the bedroom on the upper floor. Villas on one level are also available, where the living room and bedroom form one seamless space. There is also an ensuite bathroom and outdoor rain shower, external deck and balcony. Two to three guests can be accommodated in each villa.
Family villas (2,600 sq ft): There are two family villas each with two well-appointed ensuite bedrooms. The family villas can accommodate four to six guests.
Facilities
Dine under stars in the main restaurant’s roof terrace or at your villa. Dining timings are completely decided by the guests and the menu includes both international and local cuisine. Special food requests (including vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free meals) and other personal preferences are accommodated by the chef. The resort has a large swimming pool and sundeck for relaxation and well-marked trails for walking, cycling and/or jogging. There is also an outdoor badminton court and mountain bikes for those wishing to explore the surrounding countryside. Wild Grass also offers guided meditation and yoga.

Bird watching and wildlife tour with cutural attractions in Sri Lanka
This video was created by Paul Seligman form Wales. He and his partner Janet Dawes toured for 14 days in Sri Lanka. The tour was led by Prasanjith Caldera of Walk With Jith (walk withjith.com). They toured many cultural, birding, and wildlife in central, western and southern Sri Lanka; Colombo, Dambulla, Sigiriya, Polonnaruwa, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Horton Plains, Udawalawa, Sinharaja, and Kitulgala. This could be very useful for anyone to get an idea about a tour in Sri Lanka. Paul and Janet are now very good friends of Prasanjith. Parasanjith visited them twice in UK when he attended the British Bird Fair in 2006 and 2007. Paul and Janet helps and advises on developing Prasanjith's tour company, Walk With Jith.

By train across Sri Lanka | DW Documentary
Asia’s most beautiful railway line? The “Main Line” cuts through tea plantations and jungle, then passes Buddhist temples and relicts of the British Empire.
In the 19th century the British built a railway in what was then their colony of Ceylon. Their idea was to transport goods such as tea from the highlands to the port of Colombo. Today it’s mainly only locals and tourists who use the so-called Main Line. The route is considered one of the most picturesque in the whole of Asia.
Our trip takes us from the capital, Colombo, to Ella in the highlands. Our first stop is one of the country’s largest elephant orphanages. And then on to Kandy, the former capital of the Singhalese kingdom. The city is home to the famous Temple of the Tooth, which is said to house the Buddha’s top left canine. The train then winds its way further up into the highlands. We watch tea pickers at work and go to a tea factory to discover where the aroma comes from. Nuwara Eliya is Sri Lanka’s highest town at an altitude of almost 1900 meters, where a racecourse still brings the colonial era back to life. The stations have also retained their own colonial charm: in 1901, a signaling system was set up to make the long journey safer. And those suffering from the altitude can catch their breath at the final stop, the spa in Ella.
