Enjoy a visit of “a château in a natural setting” where the history is beautifully merged with architecture, flora, orchards, cuisine and Mauritian expertise.
Situated in the North part of Mauritius, in the heart of a fertile orchard and splendid garden lies The Château de Labourdonnais, where endemic plants and large varieties of exotic trees grow in harmony.
The Château de Labourdonnais was owned by Christian Wiehe, an influential figure of nineteenth century Mauritius. The construction started in 1856 and three years later, the Wiehe family moved into one of the most beautiful colonial houses of the island.
Inspired by Italian neo-classical architecture, the residence stretches out on two levels. The house was built mainly from teak wood and has a double colonnaded gallery. The layout of the house follows that of the private mansions of the nineteenth century, with a central hallway leading on one side to the dining room and on the other to the main lounge. The bedrooms are situated upstairs.

Situé dans le nord de l'île Maurice, au cœur d'un verger fertile et d’un magnifique jardin, se trouve le Château de Labourdonnais, où les plantes endémiques et une grande variété d'arbres exotiques se développent en harmonie.
Le Château de Labourdonnais était la propriété de Christian Wiehe, une éminente personnalité de la vie mauricienne du XIXe siècle qui fera prospérer le domaine. C’est en 1856 qu’il décide de commencer la construction du château et trois ans plus tard, la famille Wiehe emménagea dans l’une des plus belles maisons coloniales de l’île.
Le Château de Labourdonnais, d’inspiration architecturale néoclassique italienne, s’étend sur deux niveaux. Construite principalement en teck, la demeure a une double galerie à colonnades qui la protège du soleil et permet une meilleure ventilation. L’agencement des pièces est la caractéristique des demeures privées du XIXe siècle avec un vestibule central conduisant d’un côté à la salle à manger et de l’autre au grand salon. Les chambres se trouvent à l’étage.

Mauritius (/məˈrɪʃəs/; French: Maurice), officially the Republic of Mauritius (French: République de Maurice), is an island nation in the Indian Ocean about 2,000 kilometres (1,200 mi) off the southeast coast of the African continent. The country includes the island of Mauritius, Rodrigues (560 kilometres (350 mi) east), the islands of Agalega and the archipelago of Saint Brandon. The islands of Mauritius, Rodrigues, and Réunion 170 km (110 mi) south west, form part of the Mascarene Islands. The area of the country is 2040 km2. The capital and largest city is Port Louis.

Tarapith Mahasmashana
An improvised tour of the Mahasmashana (Great Cremation Ground) of Tarapith, West Bengal. Shot on my digital SLR and edited with Final Cut. Although this video is largely an experiment, it does provide a fairly thorough and explanatory journey through the famous burning ground located near the Tarapith Mandir--a place of great renown within the Tantrik tradition. During my next trip, I hope to make an even better and more comprehensive video for those who are interested. Overall I am happy with the result and cannot wait to see what I do with a little more knowledge of the editing software. This is my gift to those of you who may not be able to visit this amazing place. JOY MAA TARA
