Angra dos Reis is in Rio de Janeiro state of Brazil. A beautiful mirage of 365 islands, Angra dos Reis is a popular getaway for Rio residents, since there are plenty of nice beaches around. If you end up in the town of Angra dos Reis itself, it is quite likely that you are on your way to the popular island Ilha Grande, since Angra is the main port to the island.
Apart from the town, Angra dos Reis is comprised of 365 islands and two thousand beaches filled with natural beauty, legends and social events. To know well this part of the Fluminense Green Coast, one must travel by boat, being able to see the crystalline waters, and the mansions of the rich and famous, erected on private islands.
Among all of its islands, Ilha Grande stands out. Considered the paradise of adventurers, with its trails, waterfalls and deserted beaches, it played an important role in Brazil’s historical-cultural scenario for having housed a prison for almost 60 years.
In the past, Angra dos Reis was one of the most important ports of the Fluminense coast. Ships loaded with goods docked there from the other side of the world. Slave ships also arrived there with hundreds of slaves to supply forced labor in the coffee plantations of the region.
Ilha Grande (Great Island), the biggest island in the region, is one of the most sought out places for diving in Brazil. Shipwrecks, coral reefs and an exuberant marine fauna are part of the itinerary for those looking forward to diving into the blue-green waters. The best options are on the calmer side of the island: Gruta do Acaia (Acaia Grotto), Praia and Ilha dos Meros (Beach and Island of Meros), Laje and Ilha do Guriri (Island of Guriri), Ilha das Palmas (Palms Island), Ilha do Pau a Pino (Pau a Pino Island), Lagoa Azul (Blue Lagoon), Ilha do Morcego (Bat’s Island), Lagoa Verde (Green Lagoon) and Ilha do Jorge Grego (Greek Jorge Island). Ilha Grande is so beautiful that it has been elected one of the 7 wonders of Rio de Janeiro, in 2007.
The Island also offers places for adrenaline junkies, such as trekking, canoeing and wild paths for people who like to discover the diversity of their beaches. Angra's East end also has the infrastructure of hotels and restaurants, besides historical buildings, such as the Holy Trinity church, the monument to Aquidaba at Jacuecanga's bay, and Leme's Fort.
The Marco da Cidade (City Mark), the Colegio Naval (Navy School), the Ermida do Senhor do Bonfim (Lord of Bonfim Hermitage) and the Igreja de Nossa Senhora dos Remédios (Our Lady of Remedies Church) are all at the estrada do contorno (contour road).
Take the chance to get to know Paraty's - a nearby city - beautiful beaches, colonial mansions, exuberant fauna and flora. Heading south, there are great resorts to relax and rapids to enjoy diving and adventure tourism. Besides, there are the tourist sites such as the Vila Historica de Mambucada (Historic Village of Mambucada), the ruins of the Engenho Central do Bracui (Bracui Central Mill) and the Complexo Nuclear (Nuclear Complex).
Looking for accommodation online in Angra can be confusing, since the beach resorts and the downtown hotels can be hard to tell apart. If you just need somewhere to sleep before going to Ilha Grande the next day, don't book an expensive resort far from the port. The majority of accommodation options are on the Contorno road north of town. They range from luxurious hotels to small cozy inns, and attractive prices. The cheapest options are in the center.

Linda de ++++++ ilha grande com as 108 praias
A Ilha Grande é a maior ilha do estado do Rio de Janeiro e a sexta maior ilha marítima do Brasil.
Praia do Aventureiro

Adventurer Beach
The main village is Vila do Abraão, with approximately 3,000 inhabitants, where most of the island's infrastructure is concentrated, such as a health post, primary school, post office and detachments of the Fire Department and the Military Police. A ferry service connects Vila do Abraão with Angra dos Reis and Mangaratiba on the mainland daily. The village also has a wide offer of inns, campsites, bars, restaurants and shops for tourists. There are some other small communities scattered around the island, also with tourist infrastructure, such as Praia Vermelha, Bananal Cove and Japariz Beach.
Economic activities revolve around fishing and especially tourism. The island currently offers many tourist alternatives: boat trips, beaches with calm waters for family diving, beaches for the practice of sports such as surfing, ecological trails through the woods to the center of the island, mountain biking, as well as some historical attractions.
There are 4 environmental conservation units on the Island: Ilha Grande State Park, Adventurer's Marine State Park, Praia do Sul State Biological Reserve (which access is only allowed to researchers and people authorized by the State Environment Institute (Inea) and the Tamoios Environmental Protection Area (APA) All of these areas aim to ensure the protection of the flora and fauna of the island's large Atlantic Forest reserve and surrounding marine life.
