Plymouth Hoe & Naval Memorial
Plymouth Hoe, referred to locally as the Hoe, is a large south facing open public space in the English coastal city of Plymouth. The Hoe is adjacent to and above the low limestone cliffs that form the seafront and it commands views of Plymouth Sound, Drake's Island, and across the Hamoaze to Mount Edgcumbe in Cornwall. The name derives from the Anglo-Saxon word Hoe, a sloping ridge shaped like an inverted foot and heel.
The Plymouth Naval Memorial is a war memorial in Devon, England to British and Commonwealth sailors who were lost in the World Wars. The memorial features a central obelisk, with names of the dead arranged according to the year of death. Those for the First World War are on panels affixed to the obelisk's base; those for the Second World War are on panels set into the surrounding wall. Within each year, the names are grouped by service, then by rank and surname.[3]

War Memorial : Chatham Naval Memorial
Chatham Naval Memorial is a large obelisk situated in the town of Chatham, Kent, which is in the Medway Towns. The memorial is a feature of the Great Lines Heritage Park. The huge expanse of the Great Lines was in its own right a layer of defence to protect Chatham Dockyard from attack.Chatham was a principal manning port of the Royal Navy during the First World War and thus was dedicated as the site of one of three memorials to sailors, airmen and marines of the Royal Navy who lost their lives during the conflict but who have no known grave. The other memorials were situated at Portsmouth and Plymouth. The obelisks were designed by Sir Robert Lorimer.Chatham Naval Memorial originally contained 8,515 names. They include two Victoria Cross recipients, Skipper Thomas Crisp (Merchant Marine), and Major Francis John William Harvey (Royal Marines Light Infantry),besides poet Flight Commander Jeffery Day (Royal Naval Air Service) and England rugby international, Surgeon James (Bungy) Watson.
After the Second World War and its consequent loss of life, the decision was made to expand the three memorials and so the Chatham Naval Memorial was created from the 'Chatham Obelisk' and was given a surround designed by Sir Edward Maufe which contains 10,098 additional names from the later conflict. The surround is also made of Portland Stone, with bronze plaques. It has two pavilions; north and south which look out towards Chatham. Along the surround are four Portland Stone statues of sailors.

Commemoratees from the Second World War include posthumous Victoria Cross recipient Captain Edward Fegen and war artist Eric Ravilious.
The Grade II listed memorial is maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.

From Plymouth Hoe by Bike, to Falcon Scott’s Memorial. Plymouth Devon
From Plymouth Hoe by Bike, to Falcon Scott’s Memorial. Plymouth Plymouth
I took a cycle ride from Plymouth Hoe, To West Hoe,
From West Hoe to Stonehouse and Milbay docks. Then across the bridge towards Mount Wise and Devonport to get to Scott’s Memoria , Just over 100 years ago Scott’s and his team died trying to return from the South Pole. This Monument in Plymouth is a very important statement, about, life, challenges, and hardships. And, accepting, suffering the consequences of your actions. In this case Dear.
I find it a shame that it is not looked after properly, the rails have gone, and so have some of the letters recorded from his diaries. For a City that is trying to Promote its self at an International Venue it just about say it all really. Such a shame. Music on the video is by John

A visit to the Poppies Wave at the Naval Memorial, Plymouth Hoe on a windswept rainy October morning, but despite the atrocious conditions the display stood proud and was still a moving memorial to the fallen. HMS Cornwall arrives in Plymouth
MILIES of city sailors have described their arrival back in Plymouth after eight months away as the best Christmas present ever.
Hundreds of people flocked to Devonport Naval Base, braving the chill, for the homecoming of HMS Cornwall.
While the air temperature was cool the reception was warm, with family members, friends and colleagues cheering as the frigate appeared through the thick fog.
Many held aloft banners reading Welcome home, Daddy, while others simply waved frantically until their loved ones came ashore.
HMS Cornwall has been at sea for nearly eight months on anti-piracy operations in the Gulf of Aden and other areas. Not a single merchant vessel was taken by pirates in the region in the Type 22 frigates four months on station. Last year six were hijacked in the area in that period.
