Venge Vineyards - Calistoga, California
The Venge (ven-ghee) family has farmed vitis viniferra varieties in Napa Valley for nearly a half-century. The family's viticultural roots flourished in 1976 with the purchase of a 17-acre vineyard in the Oakville District that was planted to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Nils' son, Kirk Venge, gravitated to winemaking at an early age. He proved to be as talented a winemaker as his father, making wines in his own style, with a vision to build his own legacy in the valley. In 2008, Kirk achieved his lifelong dream and acquired full ownership of Venge Vineyards from his family. Today, Kirk continues the Napa Valley heritage, focusing on select vineyard sites that produce fruit worthy of bearing the Venge family name.

Northern California Vineyard | Anderson Valley Estate, Mendocino County California
The Estate is situated in California’s renowned Anderson Valley where world class vineyards meet coastal redwoods. Leaving the valley floor you ascend the oak and vineyard strewn hillside entering the Estate’s grounds. As you wind along the Estate’s main road you disappear within the mountain’s folds only to remerge again to reveal yet another vineyard plot with one breathtaking view seemingly more alluring than the other. Arriving at the secluded Chateau you are welcomed with an all encompassing vista of the Anderson Valley. With views out to the reaches of where the Navarro River disappears into the redwoods and meets the Pacific beyond, one is well positioned to be witness to the most extraordinary of sunsets.
The Estate is 700 acres consisting of 4 legal parcels of more than 60 acres of vineyards, 30+ more plantable acres and the balance in virgin hardwood and fir forests interspersed with mountain meadows and seasonal streams. Gracing Estate is its French provincial inspired Chateau with its detached guest and office quarters. Tastefully dispersed around the Estate are two additional guest houses with one serving at times as an event site. Interspersed where needed are those outbuildings required to the maintain the Estate, i.e. barns, tool sheds, etc..
Anderson Valley temperate climate is where warms days are tempered by cool foggy nights and mornings producing world class wine varietals in particular Pinot Noir. The Estate consists of 3 distinct vineyard blocks ranging in age from 6 to 30 years old and ranging in altitude from 550 ft. to 1700 ft. with approximately 49 acres to Pinot Noir, 10 acres to Chardonnay, 3/4 acres to Syrah and less than 1/2 acres of Pinot Gris, Friulano and Malvasia. The Estate is bordered by a number of smaller vineyard operations as well as backing up against Kendall Jackson’s prized Outland Ridge Estate Pinot Noir vineyard.
The Estate’s vineyards consistently produce 90 point or better wines yielding over 65 to 105 tons wherein about 40% is used for onsite production with the remainder being sold for an estate premium to some of California’s finest labels. The Winery itself is situated on the high northern end of the Estate. The Winery’s production capacity stands at about 4,500 cases. Retail and wholesale sales are facilitated through the winery’s offsite tasting room in Philo.
The Estate, though, is much more than a vineyard and winery operation. The vines are planted in such a way to act as a man-made enhancement to already naturally stunning setting whose natural corridors act as a wildlife sanctuary teeming with native Colombian Blacktail deer, wild turkeys, quail, wild boar, blue grouse, ducks and the occasional black bear and predator. Countless trails transverse the Estate allowing for equestrian, hiking and ATV access throughout. More than anything, though, this is a transformative lifestyle estate that affords its new owners the ability to immerse themselves in an unparalleled natural environment and wine country living at its finest while having a serious commercial aspect that allows for long term fiscal sustainability.

Note: video was taken October 10th, 2013 in a very low flow year, before any significant Fall rains had arrived. Given the low flow conditions, water was rather dark and murky. Salmonids were observed, but not possible to determine if Coho or Steelhead salmon.
