Fish Spa Treatment for Feet! (Athens, Greece)
Welcome to the Fish Spa in Athens, where they allow you to place your feet into a fish tank and have the fish nibble your dead-skin off lol!
Personally, it's a load of bologne! lol... I had a very small fish tank with 2 algae eater fish in it. They are supposed to clean the tank because they constantly eat the algae off the sides of the tank, the floor, the rocks and features etc. My water went from while to yellow so fast with minimal feeding. The truth is, they don't constantly eat, they just look like they do... and when they do eat, they aren't going to clean two whole feet in 15 minutes! lol
Garra rufa, also called doctor fish, nibble fish, kangal fish, and bonefish (in New England) is a small species of cyprinid fish that is native to rivers, streams, ponds and lakes in the Anatolia and Middle East.
Since the early 21st century, Garra rufa have been integrated into a spa treatment where they feed on the skin of patients with psoriasis. While the doctor fish treatment has been found to alleviate the symptoms of psoriasis, the treatment is not curative, and no cure for psoriasis currently exists. The use of the fish as a spa treatment for the wider public is still widely debated on grounds of efficacy and validity.
