Naxos Town is Incredible! ❤️Travel Guide + Ancient Ruins. What to do in Naxos, Greece
We spend a day exploring the town of Naxos (Chora) to find out the best things to do!
We started right by our hotel Kalergis Studio ( which is situated directly on Agios Georgios Beach directly in town.
It was really windy there so we quickly headed into town to explore the cute streets. Naxos is full of smaller alleys with white washed buildings and colourful doors. We found ourselves in the main town square, home to a great Gyro restaurant called Gyro, Gyro so we stopped for some lunch. We got one chicken and one pork gyro, both were delicious.
After we ate we did a bit of shopping (Instagram hat!) and made our way down to the port to explore the boardwalk area which is lined with restaurants and cafes, you’ll also find loads of boats there as well as the ferry dock.
We then headed to what remains of the Apollo Temple (Portara)- it used to be a full temple but now all that remains is a very large doorway. The temple dates back to 500 BC. The temple is on a separate island but is connected by a walkway to the town.
After the temple we made our way through the small, narrow streets up to the castle, where we found a cafe with a great view of the town.
Lastly we finished up our day by grabbing some delicious ice cream at the Waffle House.
Athens Vlog:
Naxos Town:
The capital of Naxos (called Naxos Town or Chora) includes the island’s main port. Due to its position, it offers a variety of landscapes, which is quite unique for a Cycladic island town. Its proximity to the sea combined with the large number of tourist attractions and amenities make Naxos Town the most preferable place to be on the island.
As the ferry approaches the port, Portara immediately catches the traveler’s eye. Portara is actually the Greek word for “big door”. It is an unfinished temple dedicated to Apollo. This is where, according to Greek mythology, Dionysus met Ariadne. Portara was built on a small rocky peninsula called Palatia. Portara and Palatia are a favourite afternoon walk for all those who love the view of an unforgettable sunset.
With a population of approximately 2000 people, Naxos Town is quite busy all year round. However, it becomes even more crowded towards the end of spring (starting as early as mid May) and throughout the summer (right to the end of September). Unlike other areas of the island, on Naxos Town, many bars, café, tavernas and restaurants are open all year round.
Closest and nicest beach on Naxos Town is the beach of Saint George (Agios Georgios in Greek). It is usually a crowded beach with lovely tavernas literally on the sand and many bar-café to enjoy breakfast or a late evening drink. You will find umbrellas and sunbeds in the largest part of the beach as well as a famous sports club towards its end, where you can enjoy your favorite sports or take surfing lessons. The beach iof Saint George is perhaps the most popular on the island of Naxos, ideal for people who are not strong swimmers and for families with young children.
Naxos:
Naxos is an island in Greece, with 429 square kilometres the biggest of the Cyclades group. It's located right in the centre of the Aegean Sea. Roughly 20,000 people live on the island and it's a popular tourist destination, including some fine beaches and ancient ruins as well.
Naxos has a mild Mediterranean climate with warm, sunny and dry summers and mild but wetter winters. Summers from June to September average around 25-27 degrees Celsius during the day and still above 20 degrees at night. The influence of the sea means that it never feels oppressively hot and nights are kept nice and warm as well.

Hiking Mt. Zeus in Naxos | Greece Ep. 5
Last minute trip to Greece.
This was the second day in Naxos. The biggest Greek Island in the Cyclades; even more known to have the highest peak.
This day we conquered Mt. Zas aka Mt. Zeus. Legends have it that this was where Zeus was born. Being infatuated with Greek Mythology, we had to check it out for ourselves.

GREECE: Island of NAXOS, EXPLORING the beautiful OLD VENETIAN MARKETS ????️
SUBSCRIBE: - Let's go visit the OLD MARKET area which is, in fact, the area within the old castle walls at Naxos town. The streets are typically narrow with stone built walls that are lined with mostly tourist shops. This is probably the best place to go if travelling the island to find gifts for those back home is not your thing.
A very wide variety of stores are to be found here including jewelers with some pretty impressive and original designs. Naturally the height of the tourist season will give you a sense of the hustle and bustle of the island but it gets very pronounced in the narrow streets of the old market and it can be a bother or very exciting depending on what you like. There are a number of bars in the old market and night life is quite lively with a very Greek flavor which I found to be genuine and fun.
Naxos is a Greek island in the South Aegean, the largest of the Cyclades island group. Its fertile landscape spans mountain villages, ancient ruins and long stretches of beach. The namesake capital (also called Hora or Chora) is a port town filled with whitewashed, cube-shaped houses and medieval Venetian mansions. Kastro, a hilltop castle dating to the 13th century, houses an archaeological museum.
Greece is a country in southeastern Europe with thousands of islands throughout the Aegean and Ionian seas. Influential in ancient times, it's often called the cradle of Western civilization. Athens, its capital, retains landmarks including the 5th-century B.C. Acropolis citadel with the Parthenon temple. Greece is also known for its beaches, from the black sands of Santorini to the party resorts of Mykonos.

Hiking the birthplace of Zeus | Cinematic Greece Travel Vlog | Naxos Day 3
On our last full day on Naxos, we decided to hike Mt. Zas, the highest mountain in the Cyclades at over 1000m, which is also known as the Birthplace of Zeus, the god. To get there, we had to take a bus from the city center, reaching the village of Filoti, from where a 20 minute walk took us to the start of the hike. The way up the mountain took around one hour and went past a nice spring as well as plenty of interesting plants and some lizards. Once we made it to the top, we were rewarded with 360° Panorama views over Naxos and many of the surrounding Cyclades including Paros, Santorini, Mykonos and others. On a clear day you can even see as far as Crete and sometimes even Turkey.
For the hike down, we decided on the more difficult route, which took more than double the time and really challenged us with some climbing and generally was just a lot more strenuous. On the way down, we passed Zeus cave, which was the place that Zeus was raised as a child according to a legend. There was not much there to see since it was pitch-black, but it was pretty cool, which was a nice refreshment in the heat. The next refreshment came at the end of the hike, with the Aria Springs, which provided us with some nice, fresh water and a cool place to chill.
The way back to Filoti took around 30 minutes and there we had some great Pizza and Pasta at this modern fancy restaurant. We walked a bit around Filoti, wich is a really nice, typical Greek Village before booking it back home for a last relaxing evening at our Guest House.
