Protect the Fantastic Nehalem River as a State Scenic Waterway
The Nehalem River has it all, from mature forests to bald eagles to salmon to great swimming holes to waterfalls and kayaking. It's a true river gem that deserves to be protected for future generations.
While Oregon has protected several iconic rivers in the Cascades, very few rivers have been protected in the Oregon Coast Range. New protections for the Nehalem River could help protect one of the most important rivers in the Coast Range.
State Parks is considering protecting the Nehalem River as a “State Scenic Waterway”. Protecting clean water, wildlife, and recreational opportunities on the Nehalem River would be a win for the region and for all Oregonians. The state has been studying the river and is now asking for feedback on their potential draft management plan.
Tell State Parks to include strong protections for the Nehalem River.

Upper Nehalem River SUP
Spent the first night in our new Chalet Arrowhead camper at Anderson Park in Vernonia on a bluff overlooking the upper Nehalem River. Paddled the Nehalem late Saturday afternoon and again Sunday morning, first time on this river. Very relaxing and beautiful floats both days. Saw lots of 'veggie islands'. Found a decent surf wave just above where we camped, but couldn't dally, had to check out of the camp site. Next time I will also explore Rock Creek which should have a bit more action.
