भिलाई भारत के छत्तीसगढ़ राज्य का तीसरा बड़ा शहर है। मुम्बई-नागपुर-बिलासपुर-कोलकाता राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग 6 पर स्थित, छत्तीसगढ़ की राजधानी रायपुर से लगभग 30 किलोमीटर पश्चिम में भारतीय इस्पात प्राधिकरण के अंतर्गत एकीकृत इस्पात संयंत्र के लिये जगप्रसिद्ध शहर शिक्षा और खेल के क्षेत्र में भी नाम रखता है।

The art gallery has a grand history. It is shaped like an Igloo and is like a hemi sphere. Once you go to Civic Centre in Bhilai, you cannot miss sighting it. In good olden days, it was being run as a super market when such things were not even existing anywhere in the country. When the super market shifted to a new location, this place was given to Bhilai Mahila Samaj. They were running a restaurant here. But, that did not last long. Finally, the management of Bhilai Steel Plant decided to dedicate the prestigious structure the activities of art and culture. It was named Nehru Art Gallery. It was inaugurated on 14th November 1988 (?). Art work of local artists would be exhibited every month. The exhibition would be inaugurated by a chief guest on 14th of the month. It would be on display till end of month. I had the privilege of being the President of the Arts Club of Bhilai for almost 15 years. We had held many a drawing and painting exhibitions by local children including for the differently abled ones. Every year, there were exhibitions of paintings of children from the world over. Almost 200 paintings were on display. This was possible with the help of Shankar's International. The key person from Bhilai was Mahesh Chaturvedi. The festival 'Baal Kala Ustav' was held in this gallery from 14th November to 31st December every year in this gallery.
The show goes on. The art exhibition is being held every month.
