SCHOOL TRIP TO NEHRU PLANETARIUM,MUMBAI
Nehru Planetarium, Mumbai
The Nehru Planetarium, part of Nehru Centre, is located in Worli, Mumbai, just past the Atria Mall if you're traveling toward Haji Ali or Mahalaxmi. Commissioned in 1977, the Nehru Planetarium must surely be the one place where there's no shortage of enthusiasm on display the moment you make the bend in the road, past the entrance to the planetarium. You'd be mistaken into believing you've entered school premises.
Needless to say the Nehru Planetarium is immensely popular among school children, usually ferried to the venue under watchful eyes of their teachers. I first saw a show at the planetarium when visiting Bombay during my school vacations years ago. However it was only after my two recent experiences when I failed to get a ticket to shows at the planetarium did I realize just how popular it is with school children and families bringing their children to the planetarium on a day out in the city. The shows for the day were sold out.
So when we made for the Nehru Centre hoping to catch a show at the planetarium I was not surprised when a youth in the queue behind me tapped me on the shoulder and enquired of the rates for children. He said he was asked to check ticket availability the following week for forty students from a school in Jalgaon planning on visiting Mumbai for a show at the planetarium.
The Nehru Planetarium runs four regular shows daily. The show timings are: Hindi (12:00 pm), Marathi (1:30 pm), English (3:00 pm), and Hindi (4:30 pm). Tickets can be booked for upto a week in advance, with booking open between 11:00 am - 5:00 pm. The seating capacity of the planetarium is 575.
The Nehru Planetarium is closed on Mondays and National Holidays.

The Lunar Dome at the Nehru Planetarium, Mumbai
Conceptualised by Asian Paints and Sideways Consulting and brought to life by St+art India, with support from the Nehru Centre, the Lunar Dome is a tribute to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) – the space agency of the government of India which has been a constant source of pride and inspiration for every Indian.
Over the years, ISRO has spearheaded several scientific breakthroughs, single-handedly placing India in an elite league of space faring nations.
From discovering water on the Moon and being the first space agency in Asia to reach Mars orbit, to creating a world record for releasing the maximum number of satellites in orbit (104) in a single launch, ISRO’s numerous missions have captured the collective imagination of the nation time and again.
The Lunar Dome commemorates the pride ISRO has brought to each and every Indian by soaring high and reaching for infinity and beyond in innovative ways.
A white dome on the terrace of Mumbai’s Nehru Planetarium – known for its extraordinary space installations and comprehensive roster of astronomy-related events, served as the perfect setting to create a #MooninMumbai. While celebrating ISRO’s exemplary work over the years, it also stands as an emblem of all the future achievements they have in store for us as a nation.

Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium, Bangalore
Kids play with the hanging cylindrical shaped bells in Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium in Bangalore in Karnataka. A demo of spaceship stands at the science park in Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium. The model here demonstrates transverse waves that propagate in a direction perpendicular to the direction of the disturbance. Give a slight downward push to one of the aluminum pipes attached to the string and then release it. You will notice that the successive pipes execute an up-down oscillatory motion while the disturbance itself travels perpendicular to the direction of these oscillations.
Kids watch the paintings of the planet inside the Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium.
